I do apologize, clearly I have made a heinous mistake and misstated my stance in a grave and nearly-unforgivable way. Allow me to repay at least some of your grievances with a rephrase.
I make my areas pretty because I am a pandering tool for other mapmakers.
I design my gameplay around random loot because I am a pandering tool for the faceless mass of players.
I mapmake because I am the last person who should determine what I do with my free time.
What kind of tree(s) and shrub combos can I use in this area to create a dense forest? I'm looking for custom trees, not default ones; I've tried those here with poor results. If need be I can change the terrain, but I rather like it so far, even though it's dull. Also any tips on custom tree creation?
Here it is. My 1000th post. I know you've all been waiting for it. Maybe a few of you have it marked on your calendars, and you were counting down the days and you were so excited that you could barely sleep at night. I know I was. But the wait is over.
I know I'm not the most important or accomplished member of this community, as I've never actually made a CTM map. And I'm not very reliable. Sometimes I disappear for months at a time, and my Legendary let's play has been in constant limbo for over a year. There have been plenty of times when I thought I'd never come back to this community, because I got bored, or distracted, or I gave up on making a CTM map again. But I always came back.
And that's because of all of you. The members of this community are so friendly and stuff. It makes me happy. Yeah. And the crazy maps you people make constantly inspire me to keep going. Thank you.
But with 1000 posts I also feel kind of sad. Sad that over the course of all this time, I've never made a CTM map even though it's always been my intention. That's why, for my 1000th post, I'm going to be starting the Yelkca Finally Makes A Map For Real This Time Initiative, or YFMAMFRTTI for short (pronounced Yuff-Mom-Fritti). At least once a week, I'll be posting pictures of my progress and asking for lots of feedback. Yay.
Yay I've posted 100 post!!! Thank you guys for giving me some great feedback on the screenshots I have posted, and giving some helpful tips. I will definitely keep posting stuff on this thread, because really it is a lot of fun getting tips from professional mapmakers, and talking with people who love ctm maps. I will definitely keep posting screenshots of my upcoming ctm map. Anyway thanks for being amazing!
Edit: Haha, I posted this right after yelkca posted his 1,000 post.

You are welcome. And I'll continue to help you out on your work.
Well, maybe it's only me, but if you add a lot of stuff like that, tables, tapestries, food, dishes, you make players feel really guilty if stuff blows up, if they place lava, blocks, or dig into the walls. Maybe it's just me, although it's not OCD that does it. It feels more like you totally wreck the area, instead of just using MC's mechanics to your advantage.
What, you feel like you're wrecking a nice area, so the solution is to not have a nice area at all?
You are totally wrecking the area but there's nothing wrong with that.
CTMcommunity joint account, will I have to send a PM to get my map on the release list or will it be added "automatically"?
The joint account isn't really a trusted entity anymore since the password was leaked like a year ago. You should PM Krose, who is the Map Updater. (Drago and Fangride do general stuff so you could ping them too if you wanted to.)

Detailing a structure, building or natural landscape to make it -look good- is an important skill in making a map. It requires time and patience to fill up an area with stuff that actually looks decent. Don't leave a wall completely flat please, add a pattern / indent / whatever that could fit, and I almost guarantee it would look better. At the very least, try
Ahem. I need help.
I finished my Heatwave Keep, but now I have to put.. ehm.. stuff in rooms, and I have no idea on what should I put in them.
The area is fire themed. (oh rlly?)
Suggestions on what I could use to decorate the rooms? ç_ç

Trying to put some custom music files into a resource pack so I can play them when a player enters an area with the /playsound command from a command block. I've converted the music file into an .ogg file, but whenever I replace another sound in the assets/minecraft file it doesn't work...
Not sure if it's just because I'm trying to make this work in the latest snapshot or not! I'm sure if I tried it in 1.7 it'd be fine but I wanna use the 1.8 features too!
If someone could help it'd be much appreciated - although I guess I could just wait til 1.8 is released before adding it... but I'd rather not
Oh, and page get!
Either download sethblings version of customsound and replace the file, or do this:
Have you ever replayed a CTM map, and which maps were they?
It just struck me that most of the time, we play CTM maps for the right to say we've completed it, or to enjoy the experience, but past that they don't have much replay value, aside from just having fun or speedrunning. For me, I've only ever played Rugged Horizons and Spellbound Caves more than once, both because I was attempting to speedrun them. Has anyone else felt/observed this in their own playing habits?

Legendary, but then in 1.7.3b, instead of 1.4.7. Kaizo 2 times, SBC once, and UT II once too I think.

A lot. Like, A LOT!
Currently, on my saves folder, there are Vinyl Fantasy II, The Source, and Lands of Desire II. All of them I have "played" before.
"Played" because on the first time I liked CTM maps only because of it's aesthetics. I always cheated with TMi while playing CTM just to see all aesthetics of the map.
So to be clear, I replayed CTM maps, to experience the previous CTM maps I "played", the real way.

Septum Immoriel but that was mostly because there was new content by the time I finished what was there before.
I FINISHED UT3 !!! \o/ Just completed the monument, with those two last episodes =D
And so, I thought I could review it...
-Uncharted Territory 3, by Amlup
Difficulty: 8 Overall Enjoyment: 8
Comments: What a good map, woah. I liked it a lot !! Very challenging, and I never was in trouble with the resources, which is a good thing. There are some cool gameplay ideas too, but I didn't like the Energy Drinks very much, and OH GOD the last intersection.... Aside from the Rage Piglet Citadel, which was awesome and easily my favorite area of the map cuz it's so much fun, it was a total nightmare. That black wool. So painful. Too many mobs for my PC, too, I guess. So, FPS drops and frustration, I hated these last two zones so hard. But all the map before that was so good, it was nearly flawless.
Nearly. The end of Thunder Valley was just chaos everywhere, and thus, not fun at all for me. Getting ambushed in a giant cave and one-shot by a ghast is not fun. And giant zombies at the end of the map. Seriously ?...
However, it was a lot a fun altogether. Some areas were very pleasant to be in. The Citadel is so friggin' epic.
SCORE Aesthetics: 7/10. Simple but effective. It works. Creativity: 9/10. A lot of ideas were in the map, sometimes bad ideas but creative ones nonetheless. Gameplay: 8/10. I had fun, chests and drops are there, very good ^^ TOTAL: 24/30
for 1000 posts finish a series on youtube
