It seems that everyone is looking forward to relatively the same maps, I am also looking forward to Speluncaphobia which I recently took a look at, it looks amazing.
Well poo, my avatar derped, time to look for a new one.

Does anyone know of a mod or MCedit filter that can replace/create blocks of stained clay for Minecraft 1.7.2? I made an area called the Mountains of Moonlight with worldedit and I want to replace the hardened clay in it with cyan stained clay but I can't figure out an efficient way how. Also using sethblings random blocks filter isn't an option because the area is huge (about a circle with a diameter of 500~ blocks and 40-100+ high).

Why would you need a special filter for it? You can just use default MCEdit replace function to do it. The ID of stained clay is 159, for different colors use different damage values (so, typing 159:9 in search will give you cyan stained clay).

I did not know of this... thank you for telling me this. I did know of the fill and replace option of course, just not that you can do this (put in data values of future blocks AKA blocks that in the current version of mcedit aren't automatically recognisable).

Warning: this post contains massive spoilers about my upcoming map.
So mostly this is just me wanting feedback on how I can improve my map aesthetics. This is a screenshot of the 12th area called "The Mountains of Moonlight" (this area is still WIP) and I want feedback on how to improve it's aesthetics. Note: Because of how I designed my map as monster hunter themed it doesn't have any of the following: dirt/grass/podzol/mycelium and wood (double slabs are fine).
This next screenshot is from the 7th area of the map called "The Metallic Mountains". This is the area where the player gets iron and the mountains are made up of gravel, double cobblestone slabs, small amounts of iron ore, and lava streams. This area has silverfish so I don't want to put in blocks silverfish can get into.
This screenshot is from a tower in the 4th area, "Ghostly Ruins". The tower is made up of stone bricks and it's variants mostly, but I had and still am having a hard time of thinking about ways to give it more detail. In this area the player gets access to gold and fire (chain armor).
This last screenshot is from the first area of the map, "The Wasteland of Woe". I intended it to be a wasteland of course but it really needs something to give it some variety. Also there's cake littered around on the ground.
What mobs/mob combinations do you like to fight/use in your maps? By mob combinations, I don't strictly mean stacked mobs, more like mobs that work together well when put in the same area, but stacked mobs can work as well.

I think that zombies and spiders for one are a good combo (the two most common melee mobs). Also magma slimes with blazes are a pretty good combo (but they in most cases equal infinite and easy fire resistance potions). In one of my area's there's invisible skeletons with dyed leather chestplates and enderman with potion effects which I think look together pretty nice (the chestplates are dyed blue). An idea I had for stacked mobs was a skeleton riding an undead horse (skeleton type) with iron horse armor, because I think that could look pretty cool. Only problem though is the horse won't move to you, but maybe an invisible silverfish under the horse could fix that (and give the horse a ghostly levitation effect).

Skeletons and creepers. It forces the player to lean to bow use, which as a player I prefer (so I want to force it) and also makes the environment change more because of skeletons shooting creepers. Which is always fun.

Blazes and Charged Creepers, along with TNT,and Silverfish spawners in an area mode out of silverfish stone, that combo is always fun.
I'm being serious, I find that combo very hard and very fun, usually if made well. Other than that I do like WIther skellies and spiders.

Also getting records is fun too. Yay records.
In other news, I am rapidly burning through my backlog of Ragecraft 2 videos. My last pre-recorded episode will be going up today. Guess I'll need to record some more, which may be difficult given that FRC season just started. (Robotics extracurricular activity)

For an endgame area I would have armored Zombie Pigmen(angry) and cave spiders with speed buffs, sue me.

I tend to use blazes as meatshields but with skeles and ghasts as cannon fire with zombies and spiders on the ground as meelee, this changes as the areas progress, the skeles getting better the blazes getting meatier and so on, I also introduce a couple of areas with different combat to spice things up...

You know something i would find cool for an endgame mob? A wither skeleton, with an invisible witch on top of him, with an invisible blaze on top of her. It'd be like a multi-spell casting monster of awesome. (to compensate for how ridiculously op those attacks are you could make him slow and maybe lower health)

Sorry but, if you put a blaze on a witch, the witch will hit the blaze with the potions. The same happens with the blaze's fireballs. If you put a witch on top it will catch on fire. But you could have a witch riding a skeleton riding a wither skeleton; that would work.

Skeleton with a flame bow, there's an idea (of course the bow would show up, but oh well what're you gonna do?)

To keep the bow from showing up, you could stack a blaze on a skeleton, make the blaze invisible, and make the skeleton unarmed and somehow useless? Not sure if that would work.
