I don't have problems with mcedit. If it's ever unusable I recommend using worldedit.
Actually, I do. I use TMI, SPC, WorldEdit, and MCEdit, and they worked quite well together when I started the map. About the third or forth time I used MCEdit, problems arose. Thanks for the suggestion and help, though!

install craftscripts to worldedit if you haven't yet. it allows you to place vines, erode, and do other cool stuff that is extremely useful.

I will definitely try that, thank you very much.

I finished the ground cover for Decay, my green wool area. I've not really touched the walls/ceiling yet, but the floor took so long I feel I need to post what I have an move onto making a different area.
I am pretty happy with the block combinations, and there are more pictures on my thread. But if anyone has any suggestions for what to do with the ceiling I'd be open to anything they have to say!
Hello everyone. Good to see the CTM Community is mostly alive (I saw some zombies lurkin' around here) and well in this thread! Looks like the CTM Shop has gone through a few more iterations since I left 10 months ago.

Everyone always recommends the Craftscripts, but to be honest, the erode/fill brushes in the Terraforming Toolkit work a loooooooot better than the ones in Craftscripts. Not saying Craftscripts is bad, it's just that the Terraforming Toolkit is much better for terrain.
What you could do is add some stalactites here and there, possibly made out of Pumpkins, and then you replace the tips of the stalactites with Jack-o-Lanterns.
Stalactites....made of pumpkins? Stalumpkins?
@Torien: the area looks very nice. I agree with Eerie that the ceiling should be kept dark so as to draw attention toward the ground, which is where the player is anyway. Glowstone would ruin the eerie, dark cavern effect.
So, I am a rather... "new and basic" mapmaker. I have tried making CTM maps before with a new genre, but I gave up eventually. However, I recently started up again on a new map that is turning out much better then my first few. However, MCEdit has began giving me... issues. A lot of them. The most notable is it freezing, crashing, or taking forever when loading any map. Another common one is Sethbling's Item Lore Filter acting strange. The text boxes will create infinite streams of words I write before MCEdit crashes, the letters will be in a different order then I typed them, etc. Has anyone else had these problems and/or know what I can do?
What are your pc specs? You'll need a good pc to run it. Try turning down block render distance (or w/e it's called).
@ torien, looks amazing man! Great job, looking forward to your map!!!
As some of you know, I was gone for 10 months. I touched a few maps during that time, but didn't finish any of them. In addition, 1.4 was the last update I knew backwards and forwards. 1.5 and 1.6 are still new to me. So obviously, some of the CTM maps I looked at today were pretty difficult for me.
So what are some easy maps to play? I'd prefer to avoid void-heavy maps and Hard to ROM-Hack maps for the time being. Something simple and easy is what I need. Any suggestions?

To Greener Pastures by karrot, Rugged Horizons by Aimoskeeto, Dreadsky Isle by Drago (DsI isn't too easy, but its not punishing by any means)
@Delthyn I'd recommend Dreadsky Isles by Drago. I think it's being updated, however, so you can either wait or play it now as it is with slightly simpler features (1.5).
Yep, I'll continue work on updating it to 1.6.2 in a few minutes. Download might be up later tonight, if I don't get distracted by Overcast. Otherwise, I'll do my best to have it up by the weekend.
Hello CTM Community, Here is My sneak peek pack Pics
*snip*
Some feedbacks.
First picture looks great.
Second looks far too red/orangey. Try adding a bigger secondary wall color, like replacing the redstone blocks with just regular stone. Should make the area a bit more bearable.
Third needs block variation on the castle. Try not making a structure out of a single block or block texture.
Fourth and fifth look fine, but nothing particularly jumps out at me.
Sixth could really benefit from removal of the lava. It just doesn't look like it belongs.
Seventh is nice, but the solid bedrock at the top really looks ugly imo.

I love the intersection with the ship Pic 2 and 5 need some work though. 2 is a bit to orange colored in my opinion and 5 I don't like the color combo's (lava soulsand and vines just look nasty IMO)

This guy is pretty cool: Hey! I like, run this... or something:
I've decided to add something completely new to my next map. I will be implementing side quests, which help promote that "exploration will be rewarded" feel. The one I'm working on now involves sailing to a mechanical/high tech style group of floating islands (sailing through the air, I know, pretty hardcore). Here's what I plan for the islands to look like:
Does it get that high tech feel across?
Of course, each side quest will have its respectable loot, rewarding something powerful once completed. This also mixes in a bit of an adventure theme into the map, which I think is pretty cool. Thoughts?
Sorry guys, no updated DsI tonight. I've made it to I04 though, which is where most of the custom mobs are, and thus where I'll have to spend the most time updating stuff. I will say though, no one should be complaining about Shardveil Cove and Armpit of the World being too easy anymore. >:3

That sounds awesome. I'd try not to include too many side quests, maybe 1 per intersection max? (Not sure if you're even doing linear branching but whatevs :P) If you want to include more, make sure that you keep them short and sweet! Cool idea Com!
Ctm fun fact of the day:
DsD would have already been released if Rift wasn't a thing

Try Vechs' Sunburn Islands. It's an old map from good 'ol 1.7.3, but it's a good one. With the new mob AI's, some dungeons can be pretty difficult, but the whole map is relaxed compared to the others. I recently completed it in 1.6.2 with about 20 deaths. The map is a challenge, but far from impossible. A good one for the adventurous type, too.

ha ha! Thanks Zookid, but I already beat that one about a year ago. I used to be a big CTM player, but left about 10 months ago. Just trying to get back into the swing of things here. I beat Nightmare Realms and The Fire Beneath back in the day.
Alright, so To Greener Pastures, Dreadsky Isles (Once Drago stops playing Rift) and Rugged Horizons (Once I'm ready for void). Thanks everyone!

Are you still playing it, btw?

how do you know? maybe i played the whole map in the two days since i beat spellbound .3.

I'd definitely recommend TGP, especially once Karrott releases version 2.0 (which I have a copy of :3).

Not sure, but earlier versions of MCEdit ran perfectly.
