It took quite some time to get this map 95% accurate, I'm quite proud of this A while ago, I looked on the internet for a map of the Shire in Minecraft. Almost everything already has a Minecraft version, right? Well, there was no version of the Shire that satisfied me, so I decided to make it myself. Here it is:
What you see above is a WorldPainter export. The map itself is (of course) not 1:1 scale, that'd be ridiculous, as the shire is about 300 miles long. I don't exactly know the scale, but in-game it looks pretty good. The map is 3000x3000 blocks.
Clearly, it isn't finished. There aren't any buildings yet. It now is up to you, Minecraft Community! If there are enough people who would like to contribute to this map, I'll start a server which runs this map. You'll be able to apply if you want to build, let's say Bywater, or Bree, or Sarnford, or whatever. The goal is to build an ultimate accurate Shire map!
i dont know what i need to join, but here i go:

any personal stuff i dont want to share over the comments, just PM me for it
Fantastic, this is more than I dared to hope for I'm currently looking for a server to get this project off the ground. I was thinking of making the whole world protected (for guests) with WorldGuard, and grant the builders, who should apply here, (I have some names already!) the rights to build on certain locations. If you've got tips and suggestions concerning the administration of the server, I'll be glad to hear them. I do know a thing or two about managing an MC server (I do this for a small group of friends), but this is a project of whole other scale and open for the entire internet, so I'm quite excited.
I'll keep you updated!
Boom! We're online! More info will come soon, for now it's whitelisted, until I've figured out how to make it guest-read-only. http://178.33.233.177:42429/#
http://178.33.233.177:8080/ (I literally had 2 minutes to create this. It will be replaced A better version has been uploaded. Still under contruction!)
Right guys, it's a shame, but I'll have to shut the project down. People are easily motivated, but that same motivation sadly disappears a little too quickly. Hobbiton is more or less done (thanks Hartorgaarder!), some bridges are done roughly, foundations for Bag-End have been made, but overall I think the project has failed. There don't seem to be many builders with enough time (me included!) to be able to actually come online a few times a week. Plus, I rent the server and there's a monthly fee. I'm not renting a server if it's empty the whole time. Just to let y'all know
The server will shut down in about 2 weeks. Pity, but yeah. Guess the target group (LOTR + Minecraft fans with some spare time) is a little too small. It's been a pleasure!
