Hello fellow CTM'ers! In spirit of the holidays I'll be making one Mini-CTM map each day from now until Christmas featuring a wide range of unique styles, sizes, gameplay, and mechanics.
Download Map #1/25
Map #01: Sandswarm
This map is all about speed and maneuverability over terrain, not at all helped by the swarm of creepers that will grow the longer you take. Sporting 2 wool, this map is on the easier, but more inventive side and can be completed in a 5-15 minute sitting.
I will be posting the next 24 in my own map thread (link in sig) so I don't spam this one. Enjoy!
/self plug etc. etc.
I wish I has as much time as you. It takes me a week to do a mini-CTM map.

Every bloody CTM map series boasts that it's bigger, longer, and harder than other CTM series. It's almost as if it's a **** measuring contest. (bigger, longer, harder...)

Xek, that looks awesome! I'll be sure to BRUTALLY DESTROY all of those fun little maps!

Looking for a CTM map, you say? Just click on the banner and look no further!
To Mr. Isaac: I have been mapping again, and remember this picture, where you asked me to put in more variety?
Well I have added glowstone to the floor, and added some randomised sand to add more texture. I have completely grown the vines with the help of a terraforming tool, and am in the midst of adding an optional dungeon.
Just finished the first dungeon of the "From Flames", it feels good to place spawners, loot and traps again ;p Unfortunately I don't really have time to both play maps and build them, and I need to decide if I'll continue with building or finally play UT2, Waking Up, Isaac's map and all other great CTMs ;/
Well remember that mapmaking IS a hobby, so you can choose whether or not. It's up to you!
Well I know that, I 've been making maps for more than a year now (since July 2011 I think). But I'd love to finally play someone else's map and see what other people can do to copy it... uhm... to get inspiration and creative ideas ;]
I guess I'll play some mini-CTM map instead of full-length, giant maps.
So the details of my map.
Name: SearFrost Desert
Type: Partial open-world/NR-type
Difficulty: Medium/Easy
Main block: Snow Blocks, Sand and Lava.
Theme: Christmas

So right now, I'm building this Mario Galaxy ish type of map. You start out at a "save beacon" and then you launch to the main base. (Command block location arguments FTW and, it looks like your sorta flying.) At the main base, theres a map room which, every time you enter, plays music :P. That's where you select where to go. More zones get unlocked as you progress. Each "zone" is like an intersection with mini versions of the "areas" that hold the wools. The zone is like a minimap itself. When you walk inside of the mini version, it teleports you to that part of the large version. When you want to fly back to the base, you press a button in the zone "map". When you get back, the monument to that "zone" is unlocked at the base. When all wool is found for that zone, the next zone opens. After all zones are completed, the final zone is unlocked. Sound cool? I'll have pictures soon! Beta testing will start next weekend so E-mail me if you want in
Map Name: Tiny CTM #1: Into The Blocky Skies.
Also, you wont be able to break blocks in the base because of Adventure Mode

I like the way it sounds, but I'm not sure it's really CTM in adventure mode. That's a huge part of the CTM genre, for me at least.
First off, Xekaj, that is an awesome idea. I shall certainly download as many as I can of your minimaps! I'll have your map thread bookmarked from now on also (I don't know how I didn't have it bookmark'd before... I'm looking forward to your full-length map so much).
Witty, glad to hear you're adding more variety to that area! From what you've described, that sounds very good.
And Piecia, where you say "I'm thinking about mapmaking or playing a good CTM map like Uncharted Territory or Isaac's maps, I think you mean "playing a good CTM map like Uncharted Territory. Or maybe I'll play that piece of crap by Isaac". Honestly, Humble Beginnings really makes me ashamed.... I guess I should be glad though, I think Darkbright Caves is going to be a LOT better, and since Humble Beginnings already has nearly 1,500 downloads, I have a fairly large audience that will hopefully appreciate my next map. I'd say you should play Uncharted Territory and then my second map when it comes out. (Well, my second map is #1 in my series, but you know what I mean).
It is like normal ctm maps with a twist. Instead of using wool it uses player heads and it takes advantage of all of the new 1.4 features. I was wondering if you could post it?
Okay! But first, do you have any pumpkin pie or muffins I could eat?

I saw your post on the mindcrack subreddit, so I gave your map a spin. I quite liked the look of your areas, and I thought you incorporated all the LPers nicely, but, in my honest opinion, it was poorly balanced. It seemed like you just saw a space and thought, "Oh, you know what would be cool here? A spawner" without really thinking about what that would actually do to the gameplay. The constant void over the small sections were unnecessarily nerve-wracking. I liked all the custom loot, but a lot of it didn't fit with the area/Let's player you were trying to showcase. I just didn't feel like the loot/spawners meshed together all that well. I really liked the way you built areas in that player's building style, it gave it quite a nice touch. The copy/pasted glowstone "stars" were a good idea, but ended up a little ugly. All in all, I thought it was a nice tribute, but a sub-par CTM map, though still fun to play. This is just my opinion, of course.
Okay, that makes sense, but what if the player wants to set up a base in one of the adventure areas? Are they just out of luck?
I made a post somewhere around page 20-40 (My photographic memory is failing me here...) that defines the strong ravine why adventure maps can not be CTM maps. If you can't find it, I believe it is in my reputation. It counted for five.
EDIT: Here is a couple descriptions of a CTM map on my part:
The point of a CTM map, which stands for Complete The Monument, is a harder alternative to Vanilla Minecraft, because the player survives in hostile lands twisted and formed in the hands of a mapmaker with infinite possibilities, who can strangle you of a certain resource, or can throw billions of mobs at you with the use of special mob spawners, and an obtainable goal. The goal of a Complete The Monument Map is to complete a monument with all the colors of wool without dying wool, and the Iron, Gold, and Diamond blocks.
And here is the one describing why adventure maps can not be CTM maps:
NOTE: This one is the one that recieved 5 rep points.
What defines a CTM map is that it has an objective, and it is tougher than normal vanilla minecraft, with a different environment.
Vechs was the first ever to think up of the CTM genre. He had already made a couple survival maps, but they had no objective, so they were never really complete. Vechs got bored of just surviving, so he made the monument system.
I believe the biggest reason that defines a ravine between adventure maps and CTM maps is the fact that in an adventure map, you have very VERY strict rules, with basically no difficulty. On the other hand, a CTM map forces you to survive in a land in the hands of a maniacal mapmaker with the means to twist the terrain in any way he pleases. He can limit you to no diamonds or iron until very late in the map, or throw billions of mobs at you. The means of a CTM map maker are to make aesthetically pleasing areas, with ultimums of different levels of difficulty, where as the adventure map maker has to build awe-dropping structures for a player to explore.

Yeah, I remember that, but how would you define maps that have some areas in adventure mode and some in survival? To me, that feels like a hybrid map.

Only the "base" and "maps" are in adventure mode. The actual "areas" are survival
