Important announcement! I'm ready to start the first dungeon collab. I'm looking for some custom built ships for people to build to begin building the next dungeon in the map. I'll post a map within the next 24 hours referencing size scale for the ships. You'll be able to make any ship you want, so long as you follow the instructions I give you when I start and use the examples provided. Stay tuned!
Alright, so I haven't done one of these in a while. Here goes nothing...
My name's Kerian Halcyon. You probably know me from the Yogscast forums for my unveiling of my Minecraft Battlefleet Gothic ships as well as my custom map known as The Ghostlands (and if you have, I tip my hat to you. I'm not very well known on those forums either). While both projects are going strong, I've decided to take a break and clear my head, and the best way to do that is via a Minecraft adventure map...
So, I decided that instead of making a conventional map (we've got enough of those already...lol) I'll make one that's not been done before. This is a legitimate RPG questing map similar in design to many of the oldschool RPGs we see today including many of the world's finest MMOs. This means that there's no real endgame boss to the map; you can play it however you want, and there will be no shortage of content. Of course, no game is fun without a story; otherwise it's just the classic Minecraft sandbox. So, a better way of describing it is that it's your standard RPG. You start out, play your quests in your starting zone, then explore the world. There's always something somewhere out there, such as a stray town or a castle that needs your help, and there's always a dungeon hiding out somewhere for you to beat.
The story takes place in a fantasy mythos of mine; one that I intend to write novels with in the future, so if this becomes a big hit you'll definitely recognize names and places whenever I write the books. You start out on the Island of Tortuga. Depending on the origin story you choose you have either shipwrecked, been left behind, or purposefully started over. Either way, it's the same when you start; either do the quests or get booted off the island. After you're done you decide to explore your new world and find amazing adventures in faraway lands, until you face some dark end at the hands of a zombie or a boss or run out of content to play (and at first that might happen).
Now, this project is quite big. Really big. Big enough that one guy like me can't handle it myself, especially given that I plan on updating this map with patches, the occasional new dungeon or two, and even fully new content and rules that change the map entirely every once in a while (a lot like how Blizzard updates WoW). So, that's where you guys come in. I'm looking for people to help me out on this project. Given that I plan to write on this in the future, that means you can very well end up making something awesome that will end up being in a book series.
So here's how it's going to work. I'll show a group of screenshots of the official map content I have done in a minute, but later I'll post a few replies on this forum featuring a section of the map and a download. What I want you guys to do is, depending on what it is, build something for me to go on this map. It can be something simple; a building, a wall, a tower, maybe even a whole city, though the likelihood is that it's going to be a ship of some kind. Make it your best work. When you're done, send me a copy of your download in a reply, and depending on how good it is I'll add it to the map. All credit will go to the person who made it, and it'll mean that no matter how good or bad you are at making an adventure map you can say you contributed in creating one!
So, if you guys are curious, here's some pics of the starting zone and the first dungeon. I hope you enjoy. I'll make a trailer for it once I have good music.
Tortuga View 1 (the Starting Zone)
Tortuga View 2 (with a look at the Black Osprey...yes, those cannons work)
Thieves Island (The First Dungeon)
So, I hope you enjoyed those tasty tidbits. There will be more to come on this thread, so be sure to check back every now and then if you are interested. Once I get enough people to give an a-okay for this idea I'll post a screenshot of the first bit and a download to that section of the map. By the way, I use MCEdit, so if there are two people who have a similar concept for the same map that I like I'll be able to merge them together.
Until next time, me out!

(Edit: Texture pack used in screenshots is MiniDoku, a version of Dokucraft that does not require the hi-def texture patchers)
So here's the first bit I'd like you guys to help me out with. Given that The High Seas is an RP map, it needs dungeons. It's also going to need ships...and I mean lots of them. After all, eye candy is necessary if you're going to be sailing the High Seas with nothing but a boat and a couple of friends. Occasionally, you'll find a boat willing to take you somewhere further out to sea, but even that will require some sailing on your part. After all, the High Seas is frought with danger, and you never know just what you'll end up running into...
Well, I'm not just asking for any ship now am I? I'm asking for something specific; a sailing ship, designed to sail the open waves, wage war upon one's enemies, and trade goods with others. This boat needs to be a sailing ship that requires a crew, maybe has a few guns, and most certainly has sails. Of course, there is a limit; nothing too small, nothing too big. I'm specifically looking for mid-sized ships, something like a Frigate or a Carrock (I'll provide a link to a website that has examples.
Here's the map that has the examples of ships that I built. Be sure to send me your creations via this map. You can use any downloading device you want, so long as I can access it. Mediafire is preferred, and no torrents. Send me the link to your file via PM and I'll send you a reply if your ship got picked.
Here's the website with ship examples. Not many pictures (average of one per ship), but it does provide details in how many decks, guns, and sails on said vessels.

I hope you have fun! Remember, the best ships that get picked will be added in the map, and all credit will go to the makers. First come first served!
