Wasn't sure which subforum to put this in. Figured this was as good as any.
So I'm making a survival dungeon crawler type map, where you need to kills monsters on your way out. The problem is, I don't want to spawn random monsters, and certainly not creepers. Is there any way to either spawn monsters in peaceful mode, or to turn off random monster spawning in singleplayer? (I know this is possible if you run a server, but I have not figured it out in SP).
You can download a mod, called single player commands, but here is the thing, it won't work. On peaceful mode, all mobs are turned off instead of animals and smiles. (While slimes are decreased to 2.9%)
Dude he doesn't mean that. He wants monsters to spawn ON peaceful mode.maybe you could use monster spanwers with a mod? You could look it up.Dunno how it is going to work though. But at least try.

Excludos. I don't think you will be able to do this.
My suggestion is to use dispensers. That way you can control exactly what spawns and when. All you have to do is light up the area to make sure nothing else spawns.
The only other really complicated way I can see you doing this in vanilla Minecraft is to do a lot of redstone wiring with redstone lamps. How this would works is when you enter an area, the lights go off allowing for monsters to spawn from spawners. Any other monsters would be unable to spawn because they can't spawn within a 24 block radius of you.

Hopefully this helps.
This is pretty much what I've ended up doing. Its still annoying though that even in adventure mode, you still have to worry about creepers blowing up everything.
SPC has not yet been updated for 1.3.1, but there is a command to disable creeper explosions. Another option is to recommend that folks install it, which is easy, and use that command while playing your map. Still wire-n-tape but the goal is accomplished.
I am struggling with a similar problem for my map. It is a delicate structure and I am having trouble ensuring that all of it is lit well enough that mobs don't spawn, but still looks the way I want. I've just accepted the fact that I will probably recommend playing on peaceful and someone won't listen.

me too, but i dont want monsters at all, but i want hunger and hearts decrease and health regeneration, regular minecraft without monsters
Simple. You can either type in chat on singleplayer "/gamerule doMobSpawning false" or make a command block say that and turn it on with a lever. I did that to my world and I can finally have my player's hunger go down without it spawning monsters. I don't think it will spawn peaceful mobs but it might. Plus you can still spawn mobs with spawn eggs.
