Hey, I am making a CTM map that is somewhat similiar to a vechs map or timetoslide or any other CTM map. Except the one that i am making is getting all the eggs and putting the mobs into the monument. You do not need to bring the mobs from the location you found it at to the monument.. I just wanted to use eggs instead of wool so i can have more things for you to find. It is a cave-based map and you do not go above ground. I will be posting rules and any other updates about it and i hope for you to play it when i finish the map. This is the first map in the series i plan on making more when i am done with this one with different themes.
It's hard to give advice when I know so little about the project, but here goes. You should do something different to seperate yourself from any other CTM maker. It seems like your map is based on the mob egg design which timetoslide is already doing.
If you want to keep that design and center your CTM around it, there's nothing wrong with that. However, you need to come up with something distinctive so that your map won't be buried alongside many other CTM maps. For example, perhaps adding unique traps or a storyline.

Ya im trying to put a story line it somewhat.. Let me give you some information on it.. It's cave based. you start in a area similiar to the way kaizo caverns starts and then you go into the a room that gives you some wood and saplings and a starter kit, etc. You go into the first main cave with a lava pool and i want the player to have to bridge across instead of going around. I put chests in the ceiling etc and spawners and what not... in the ceiling above the lava pit i put the entrance to the dungeon where you get one of the wools ( Yes i switched it to wool) There is more to the thing like a HUGE cavern that has many many small dungeons inside of the cavern.
umm, try as a start, giving very limited wood, a weak enchanted item, similar to a lvl 1 battle sign, and make it extremly obvious where to go first, so you use the limited resources to defeat the dungeon. at the end of the dungeon, thats when you give better goodies. also, for the big cavern, use lighting and color clues to hint where to go, so people arent spending all their time looking around. I hope this helps.
Thats what i was doing.. giving limited wood and saplings/leaves to get more trees and i scattered a few dirt blocks around the first cavern/dungeon. Also does anyone know any good names for the series/the first map. once again, its cave based and im using a lot of mossy, cracked stone type of blocks. Just suggestions would be nice.
umm. for the name, it depends, do you have a theme to the map, like by theme i mean snow, jungle, but if by what you said, it seems like its gonna be similar to cavern of sky, in kaizo caverns. so im assuming there will be lava is well.if this is the case, it could be like -limitless pain #1(after you forum name) firey depths. if it wont be a lava plentiful map, then plz post what the theme will be, and ill try to see if i can come up with anything else. if you have pictures of the map so far, id love to see it.
no problem, im looking forward to the map, im glad i could help, and if you neeed a beta tester, im willing
Alright cool, it wont be very very good as in vechs or timetoslide standards because it's my first map EVER but i think it's pretty good i've had a couple of my friends take a look at it and they said it was really cool. I am planning on making multiple and they will probably get better every map since im getting more experience. Once im done ill probably need help learning how to upload it to a file sharing site but right now im not worried about that.. it shouldn't be too hard.
sounds cool, unfortunatly i know nothing about about file sharing, so i cant help with that, but if you need inspiration for an area, i can try to help there
Alright thank you for the help as well and i already have the name for the second map and idea i can't wait to get started on that! I have nothing to ask at the moment im going to get off the mc forums and go work on it.. Thank you for all the help that you have given to me.. Seya
if I were you, I'd try to focus on reading up on game mechanics a ton, and really brushing up on your MCEdit and worldpainter, etc. ctm maps are really cool because of that astounding traps and crazy stuff vechs does with you, as well as the baffling environments you get thrown into (like the helix caverns in waking up, for example).
actually i would disagree with you, meesturhelpy, first off the reason vechs is everones favorite, it seems, is he pioneered the ctm map. i think what makes a map special is putting a reasonable amount af spawners in a special and interesting enviorment, as well as the fact that maps that look interesting and inovotive, and mainly high quality is the other main feature to a good map. traps and things like that are helpful if they are for cinimatic effect, like in rumbling caverns, of spellbound caves. putting traps to make people lose their stuff is just annoying, in my opinion. and as i said, limitless, if you can put some pictures up, id love to see um
I agree putting traps for people to lose there stuff is annoying i'd rather just give them a low amount of supplies. one thing i dislike about vechs maps ( even though i love vechs maps ) is the crazy amount of coal or iron or materials he gives out.. i want you to look for that stuff. it will definetly be a different type of ctm and it might be good in some peoples opinions or it might be terrible in another persons opinion. I am not doing intersections im having lots of caverns and a giant cavern that holds dungeons in the cavern. The next map i make will be kind of like lethamyr, continental. Also i have another idea for the map after that which is somewhat canopy carnage based but just one single GIANT tree. thats it.. just one giant tree.. you. (and maybe some nearby islands, who knows) There is many flaws in the making of this map as i used a flat land in a creative and just created HUGE stone squares and carved out caverns in those.. so if you dig enough you will leave the boundaries but i will state that in the rules and make sure people do not just dig very far because they are not gonna find resources out there it will be just layers and layers of stone.
I am making a nether fortress full of blazes at the moment, any suggestions of what i can put in there? I know at the top im putting a wool though. What should i put in chests and stuff?
umm, blaze die in water, not lava, and yes diamond picks are the only picks that can mine obsidian. for the nezza fortress, i would advise, putting the blaze in a tight, closed off area, because it can make them slightly more managable to fight. i would add another fortress next to it with an overpowered diamond pick, like in spellbound caves, and guard that with cave spiders and skeletons in an openish area, just dont go too crazy with the spawners.
Cool suggestions.. i might make another fortress nearby and put diamonds in the end chest guarded by spawners, etc. not a diamond pick because i want they to have a choice.. get the diamond block, get a diamond weapon/armour or a pick for the obsidian.Sound any good?
