The thing I disagreed on was taking a spot 1000x1000 and just deleting it all. I NEVER do that on any of my maps. I always carve my maps out of the true nature of minecraft by hand. and by hand, I mean with a diamond pick axe and three full stacks of tnt (only if necessary) and every noe and then mcedit to clear out a small room/bunker ect. And if a mountains in the way then I carve it out to where it benefits me.
It sort of depends on the map. If you're creating an adventure map where you roam across the land, I would definitely agree. If you're creating a puzzle map... well, I think it would do it some good to have natural scenery. But a lot of puzzle maps are created as long enclosed spaces, and I think if that's the type of map you're going to make, you'll find it easier if you don't have to carve out mountains and build along the land that people aren't going to see anyway.
I would also recommend telling them to delete the following files (if they exist) from the map directory before zipping it for upload:
level.dat_old
session.lock
spc.settings
spc.settings is one of the most important (should also do /reset in SPC out of habit whenever you exit your map). I have heard session.lock can also cause issues for some people.

I hadn't heard that at all, that's an excellent tip, thanks.
i like this, but it doesn't give anything content specific. like if you're making towns in a map, don't make them all the same. or anything like that. i'd like to see more about actually making the map.

To go into specifics like that would take ages. How to make towns in Minecraft could honestly be a post of its own as big as the OP in this one. However you'll find that many of the lessons in that 48 part series that's linked in the OP can be applied in more than one way, and if 'Person X' were to take everything about those lessons into account, I doubt 'Person X' would repeat the same village twice in their map.
Wow, when you said this had trouble staying on the front page, I didn't realize it was that bad...
Haha, yeah. I guess people look at the text bomb and just say, "NOPE!"
It sucks though, because I put a ton of work into it xD
If it gets stickied, I'm going to expand on it and go into major-specifics, like the person below (I think directly below) you suggested... but I don't feel the need to put that much work into it if I'll have to keep bumping it like this thread :/

What's your opinion on intentionally making gramar mistakes just to troll people? :smile.gif:
Hehe, I would never do something like that :wink.gif:
