Built to present our new approach to map design and preview one of our purchasable features. Our new vegetation will define our future forests and swamps, deserts and tundra simpler than ever. Smoother and pain-free landscape for more pleasurable and exciting exploration experience.
We've implemented a part of our own features we have had success in use in different worlds and now we decided to share it with you! No more seams of transition between biomes, no more sudden ends of forests, no more straight lines.
This is the direction maps need to go in. Basic narrative just isn't desirable in the crude small scale production it ends up looking like.
Minecraft is built to be open world and the joy comes from the user's input, not someone else's. Something like this can craft an experience vanilla generation can't, while still retaining the core fun.
However, I think there are some features you could use to make these maps even more distinct and encourage people to explore more. Loot and dungeons across the map would be great incentives to explore different places. Small custom mobs/bosses and items would be cool in a small quantity if it's done properly, same goes for NPC's.
We're providing a "platform" for the Minecraft community to share their creations they otherwise would not because they're unhappy with how it fits naturally, and that's where we come in to the picture: allowing anyone to incorporate their builds with variety of customizable terrain, for a more natural fit and look.
Caves and dungeons would be a nice addition, but they're time consuming and take away from the freedom of choice on the one hand, on the other... we're experimenting.
Not really. Use a nature-y map as a basis, and then build the stuff on top of that. Offer both for download.
We're trying to keep production as fast and simple as possible, while retaining core design ideas and most importantly step up the quality. A lot of implementations and ideas consume more time than we have to spare. I can, however, for sure say that with time you'll see more stuff integrated into the maps.
