so many series! Actually a few people are making them that aren't posting them here. But I subbed so I could keep checking them out. It helps with spotting bugs and stuff. You guys that don't make videos tho, please feel free to share screenshots and tell me and the others about your progress! All my past map comment threads have been a lot like survival journals with people sharing their stories and I always like and encourage that!
So you guys got any ideas for the next expansion? I'm getting together with the builders today! Here are some ideas I had and I'd like feedback on them:
1. Trailer is coming and I'm reactivating my youtube channel for it! I've had some footage I recorded for the planned trailer for around 3 weeks but was too busy with work and expansions to get to it. So that will be coming out in time for the expansion next weekend :D. I'll also be reactivating my youtube channel so I can upload videos occasionally announcing each expansion and new interesting ideas or features as we work on the project! We'd like to accelerate the building a bit and hopefully have the map finished sometime this summer.
2. In prep for the quests that you will go on for fixing your ship I will be activating an event for the summer meteor shower which is more "official" and story oriented and harder to miss. We have some big plans for the adventure and storyline of the map giving you more purpose after being stranded. Read below for more info on the plan:
Not everyone noticed but when the meteors fall near your ship the first summer it disables your ship stranding you there. You discover this if you click the gray continue>> button and read the dialogue with your biosuit. He plans to fix the ship using supplies you gather but I haven't yet started these quests as I needed some new destinations to include items you'll need. The second half of the map after you've established yourself will be exploring and adventuring to visit new asteroids and biomes and retrieving items and supplies to slowly fix and upgrade your ship until you can leave the system. They'll be a "return to EPIC 204" option for players that want to go back after beating the map and keep surviving there as the survival scenario itself is pretty fun. That's basically what you are playing on now. I wanted to get all that working before implementing the story and puzzles. In the end the story part of the map will be a bit like a CTM in that you go out, visit areas, and bring back rewards to help fix your ship that you can't get elsewhere.
3. More optimizations and additions to the mechanics of the map. As usual I'll make more improvements. Possibly on the list for next expansion are the following:
changing the armor system: I plan to change it so that you can only use 2 of each of the 4 armor items in any order you like. This means if you use fish scales or chitin first, you still can get 2 armor from leather and vice versa. Dragon bones you can use 4 times but only if you reach lvl 8 armor. It can get you up to 12 armor points and I'll keep giving more as rewards in new dungeons and ruins.
at least 3 new synthesizer recipes: I plan to finish the fire extinguisher item, the magnetic item retrieval module, and a new custom potion for the oranges found in the new biome from last update.
upgrades to the seasonal creature spawning: I plan to add some new sounds to a few custom creatures as an experiment, I may also add some randomized varieties where the same creature can spawn with different abilities or looks, I am also considering adding a differentiation between daytime and nighttime spawning where certain new creatures only spawn at night or vice versa.
adding a cipher book: when you translate the alien language copies of the artifacts you've scanned are sent back to the holodeck and translated, however right now you can't do this yourself. I plan to add a cipher book that you can take out of the holodeck if you want showing how the alien language is translated. You can use this to decode the descriptions on signs or carvings possibly.

miscellaneous: donkeys will be added to the creature capture capsule list, fireflies will randomly reignite after flying in water, new comments for ruin areas that don't have them, creature info files will tell the season they spawn in the lore so you don't have to open the book, holograms that the name wasn't displaying will get fixed so every creature hologram has a name display, adding colors and better formatting to the challenge list and mission manual books.

One thing I've been missing so far are heat related thunderstorms that you'd get here on earth. Summer in this map has no rain, but maybe you could make some lightning weather that doesn't require rain?
Another thing my brain came up with was a sort of "pollen storm" during Spring. But since there are enough particle weathers already, taking that idea 1:1 would probably end up making things too particle heavy, and make sand storms and the winter snow less special, so I scrapped that idea. But maybe you find a way to use the general idea somehow, so I wanted to mention it anyway

For my experiences of the Beta versions of that same map, I started a YouTube series, which (due to prior knowledge from the Alpha) ended up being very fast paced and highly focused on showing off as much of the custom stuff as I can.
So after waiting a hour and a half roundabout to upload a fresh map to my rnew server hosting, i can safely conclude that the glider bug isn't fixed. I say this with a 2gb ram allocated server with 16 render distance.
Btw if you're hosting this map on a server, i recommend update the server's default distance of 10 to sixteen. It'll help a lot with lag.

Lezandria, I like those ideas! I'm gonna have to come up with a way to limit fires from the lightning but heat lightning storms with occasional strikes seems cool, especially during summer nights. For the spring what I could do is make the growth rates (tick speed) speed up during the rainy spells and slower during the sunny spells. That might be cool. Sort of like the spring showers are growth boosts to plants.

akitori, tell your friend that if you guys want to turn off the winter snow and summer sandstorm particles there is already a custom gamerule for doing that in the holodeck. I don't think you want to turn off ALL particles as that will disable the cosmetic effects on mobs, the trails on sprites, and pretty much everything else. I already though some players wouldn't like the particles and built in an option to disable only it.

I found the bugs in the warp crystals that you spoke about akitori. I broke them when I made some changes to reduce lag and there were still some stuff incompatible with MC 1.11. It will be fixed in this coming update so they can be used. Warp crystals are multi compatible too if you all stand near it when someone throws them down they will scan everyone's inventories and transport the whole group.

yeah the intended usage was for the item to be thrown on the ground. I wasn't going to make you place it down. Is the lore instructions on that confusing? It was broken so that throwing the item on the ground near you didn't work anymore. Also I figured out and fixed the bug that deleted your bed. It was due to the overlap of the death system and warp crystal function and it's all sorted now. Fixed the sounds and messages too.
Also we discovered the problem with Lure X on the sewer rod. It is also getting fixed this update to Lure 5 as that is max that works. You can pick up the replacement from the backup chest and toss the old one.
Also, Aki, given how laggy you are on your server while recording I recommend using the vanilla rockets not the jetpack. You get too much client desync with the module and it is more likely you may die. You have to have a really good ping on the server for jetpack to work properly but rockets are more forgiving on servers since the game can precalculate your speed. Also you are down to 3 bioful, don't forget and run out!

lol, I'm sorry Akitori! We are short-staffed with builders atm and developing new areas is going slowly. I'm hoping to have that first destination finished next update though so hold on for 2 weeks! Next update is the story update where we finally start filling out on the story and plans we've had for a while. By the way, I think I have officially fixed gliders for multiplayer! It took some work but I came up with a solution that doesn't depend on ping or clients. It worked for us very well and we were happily flying around in multiplayer without ejecting each other. Let me know ASAP if it works for you!
Introducing! Beta 1.4.0, the 4th expansion to the map!
This one is called the weather update but it is a bit of a mix. There are 4 new weather changes added including hailstorms in winter, heat lightning during summer nights, strong stratospheric winds, and growth boosts for plants during the rainy spells of spring. We have also improved the recycler and added 2 new lightning crystal crafting recipes and orange juice, both very fun!
This update also contains 4 new small local ruins that will be imported into your existing terrain. Because these can't be installed until you load that terrain make sure you do some exploring this update! Or, alternatively if you are lazy, you can just go to the ship and set your render to 32 for a minute. All the changes are within 32 chunk render and will update immediately if you do that. Enjoy!

- bugfix: hatch door lags and can double-open

btw dan I'm wondering if you need help on the map since I can help and I'm a pretty good builder (wait no pretty much only houses and I don't think your need help on that so just ignore this post LOL)
if you want to try your hand at helping build one day we certainly need the help. Here is what you will need to do to apply to be a part of my build team:
The main need we have is people that are good at landscaping, making custom asteroid biomes, including new plant-life trees, and custom dungeons/ruins. The application process for getting onto the team is pretty simple: Design your own asteroid. It should be a new-looking biome, textured in 3D. Exotic plant-life such as new looking trees, mushrooms, etc. are encouraged and that is the sort of thing we are looking for.
Message me if you are interested. We will also eventually have a need for resource pack artists if we move in the direction of designing a Space Expedition resource pack. If you have experience with this you could also be a great help to the project. Thanks.

Dan, you should probably mention in that post of yours that updating players will only get 3 of the ruins but still get the biosuit message when they approach the area of the one they miss out on.
Explanation for the rest of you guys: one of the new ruins is so close to the ship that Dan couldn't rule out that several players have already built their bases in the area, and that creating that ruin there might mess things up for those players. Instead of risking that, he decided that the ruin is minor enough to leave out completely, so please just ignore that one comment if you get it and don't see a ruin looking like what it describes!

ok someone caught a bug in the new world download and updates today! I'm uploading fixed versions as Beta 1.4.1. It seems the new multiplayer glider bug fix also disabled chestplates for new players and I didn't notice as my player already was set up properly before the change. I've fixed this now.
If you just started a new game or updated and are seeing this issue where your biosuit chestplate is missing just run this command to fix it:
/scoreboard players set @p glider 0
you can also fix it by reinstalling the update which I have changed to be the bugfixed version.

Because these can't be installed until you load that terrain make sure you do some exploring this update! Or, alternatively if you are lazy, you can just go to the ship and set your render to 32 for a minute. All the changes are within 32 chunk render and will update immediately if you do that. Enjoy!

if you want to try your hand at helping build one day we certainly need the help. Here is what you will need to do to apply to be a part of my build team:
The main need we have is people that are good at landscaping, making custom asteroid biomes, including new plant-life trees, and custom dungeons/ruins. The application process for getting onto the team is pretty simple: Design your own asteroid. It should be a new-looking biome, textured in 3D. Exotic plant-life such as new looking trees, mushrooms, etc. are encouraged and that is the sort of thing we are looking for.
Message me if you are interested. We will also eventually have a need for resource pack artists if we move in the direction of designing a Space Expedition resource pack. If you have experience with this you could also be a great help to the project. Thanks.

Dan, you should probably mention in that post of yours that updating players will only get 3 of the ruins but still get the biosuit message when they approach the area of the one they miss out on.
Explanation for the rest of you guys: one of the new ruins is so close to the ship that Dan couldn't rule out that several players have already built their bases in the area, and that creating that ruin there might mess things up for those players. Instead of risking that, he decided that the ruin is minor enough to leave out completely, so please just ignore that one comment if you get it and don't see a ruin looking like what it describes!

For my experiences of the Beta versions of that same map, I started a YouTube series, which (due to prior knowledge from the Alpha) ended up being very fast paced and highly focused on showing off as much of the custom stuff as I can.
ok someone caught a bug in the new world download and updates today! I'm uploading fixed versions as Beta 1.4.1. It seems the new multiplayer glider bug fix also disabled chestplates for new players and I didn't notice as my player already was set up properly before the change. I've fixed this now.
If you just started a new game or updated and are seeing this issue where your biosuit chestplate is missing just run this command to fix it:
/scoreboard players set @p glider 0
you can also fix it by reinstalling the update which I have changed to be the bugfixed version.
