Alright everyone! I am pleased to announce that work on Space Expedition is officially back to full time!
I finally got my new PC set up and have some regular free time again so we plan to be working on the map with the help of our 2 new helpers Redsky34 and WanderingSoulofTime 2-3 times a week till final release! So expect the Beta 1.11: Crash Site Update VERY soon now! I'm hoping sometime during the next week! I'm excited to finally share it, it's a huge update adding a bunch of new areas and adventures we have been working on!
It looks like we unfortunately missed beating the MC Version 1.13 release which is a shame! In the past I've focused on porting Space Expedition directly to the new version quickly and have continued to update it to the new versions ever since we started building in MC 1.9 three years ago. However, unfortunately MC 1.13 is a pretty big paradigm shift on the command side of things. Most of the command systems break in 1.13. So, since we are so close to finishing the ending to the map (within about 2 months or so), I've discussed it with the team and we all agree that we will finish the map in MC 1.12.2 version and let people play on the final release for a while and report bugs and give us suggestions. We will then update to 1.13 in the future and fix bugs and make improvements then. 1.13 has a lot of new mechanics to play with so I need some time to run tests and see what all we can use!

Work on the update is coming along well! Still a few features left to add and test, but we have finished most of the list now! I'm aiming to have the Beta Update ready to release this weekend now!

Been doing a bunch of work this past two weeks! I was trying to decide how much progress to post since it is hard to be specific without saying a bit about what the content of the new adventure/areas will be, however, I figured I'd go ahead and post some specifics for anyone that is still following and curious!
Also, if you want to keep up with Dev work or be a tester of early builds, please message me and I will give you a link to our discord server which has a channel for bug reports and where I post updates and ask players for feedback and stuff! You may have seen some of this stuff mentioned in the past but I'm not sure what I'll I've mentioned so far, so here's a pretty full list. These features are now completely finished. My list is pretty short so I'm expecting to be done with the update and doing final testing with our group sometime this weekend!
This is the biggest update we have ever done, so I hope you guys enjoy it! The new quest and adventure has a chance of randomly starting after you have completed your first year and survived the first winter, so if you have played past that point in your games it will immediately start having a chance to happen after you install the update in your in-progress games.

Alright everyone! Beta 1.11: Crash Site Adventure, has been tested and all bugs have been fixed. We are ready to release it to the public now!
I have uploaded a new version of the map for download for new players, but older players can also update their in-progress games to Beta 1.11 using some files i have created, just like we have done in all previous updates. You can download the folder to update your game to Beta 1.11 HERE
This update contains 7 map files which you will want to put in your data folder of the Space Expedition save. The 3 region files r.0.1, r.0.2, r.9.-1 go in the region folder of your save as usual. This will update your game and you can explore the new adventure content in this new version! If you have played more than 1 year in your game, randomly, usually within the first half-day you will get a message from the Biosuit saying he has picked up a radio signal that seems to be coming from the Orbiter ship that disappeared during the meteor shower. Follow the bearing he gives you and you will eventually find a new asteroid chain to explore. The adventures and most of the new content are down that way. In addition, make sure to craft a shulker pick to use shulker boxes in the ship! The ground-floor of the upgraded ship should contain some pistons. You can now place gshulker boxes on pistons in any adventure mode area like the ship and pick them back up with the shulker pick.

In the pump room of the "trials" lab, what do you do after you draining the water? I can't get the other 2 pressure plates to work, and even placing the extra stone one on the north side of the room past the mini bridge I got after placing something doesn't work. The stone pressure plate just does nothing and any combination of the iron ones with the bot/items doesn't seem to do anything.
Edit: Also, one of the villagers stole my shears that I got from the ship at the start of the game, is there a command I can put in to get them back? Them getting taken for a quest that I didn't know about is kind of dumb.
Hey, thanks for the questions! The villager was supposed to only take plain shears with no durability missing. I had thought of them taking the player's main shears and had tried to code so that wouldn't happen. What you experienced must be an unintended bug. I will test and figure out what it is to patch in the next version. And yeah I can send you a command to get the shears back, but unfortunately, it won't have the colors. Colored items can only be edited into the game with mcedit or other special editors. For synthesizer items, the color codes are edited into my command blocks using mcedit's nbt editor. Alternatively, if you want the shears with the colors, I think I have a backup copy of it in the command center. I can tell you how to get there and take it if you don't mind going into gm3 to get there. But I store backups of all my custom items and synthesizer recipes there so I don't want to tempt you to cheat. You can let me know if you want to do it that way though.
As for your question about the puzzle:
Ok, so you drained the water after freeing the robot. He stepped on one plate you stepped on another and the water drained is that correct? You get access to a button that summons another block bot. As you already noticed there is a stone on the other side of the room where you can place your last pressure plate. You need to push the bot over there. You should have gotten a device which when placed on the stone on the other side of the water from the last pressure plate will generate one of those light bridges (but a short one with only a few blocks). It was in a chest in the room. You can then push the block bot over there using the light bridge. Once he is on some of the doors up the stairs will open.

I saw some command blocks to the side when I had jump boost from the rabbit foot when looking up something, so I did what you said and went into spectator mode and found the things under and copied the shears with middle click in creative. I also saw the drop from the automaton boss there and was wondering if it was possible to force it to respawn because it broke out and fell into the void when I was afking above it about to fight it. I got the things to make another but it only dropped vanilla drops and not the special one. (Trying to sound cryptic to not spoil anything for people randomly reading through) Also, the killer fang thing only gives 0.5 attack speed in the chest there but the actual drop from the mob gives +2 attack speed, so maybe you nerfed/buffed the drop and forgot to change the backup.
Maybe you should change some of the light grey shulker boxes to normal chests because I got almost a full ender chest of them using synthesised shulker pick in the lab. The iron one with only a few durability seems kind of redundant as well, and some things don't stack that should. (I think a power core from a boss didn't stack with the others, and I had 2 stacks of about 10-15 platings and neither type would stack with the other.)
Not being able to add looting 3 to the good sword you get from the base without the name color disappearing is kind of annoying, maybe add a way to /enchant things if you give a lot in return? Like 32 xp bottles and a looting 3 book to /enchant something you're holding with looting 3, or sacrifice other items. Maybe have it be a better enchanter upgrade to ship or in some ruins somewhere in a future area.
It'd be nice if you could upgrade looted axes to behave like chainaxes.
Edit: The unstackable power core was from the mega cube iirc.
Cool, I'm glad you found it all alright! Yeah, you can force all bosses to respawn. Once one-time events fire a redstone block changes to lapis block. This is then backed up to another area so updates won't overrwrite them. So I could give you a setblock command to reactivate that event. I can look it up for you when I have the time.
The lab was designed before the shulker pick was added (which was just added this past update). So yeah, a lot more shulker boxes are obtainable then used to be! It kinda ruins the balance I had with them being nice rewards in early dungeons, as I'm sure you can get a lot from the lab and the other base area you explored. I will still leave the other pick there in case players forget their shulker pick. Which boss dropped the power core which didn't stack? I thought I fixed all instances of that. Was it the elder guardians there? And yeah, plates from the ship crash don't stack with the ones found in alien ruins. It doesn't actually matter because you recycle them one by one and both work. It is literally just a lore difference. Also, I was not aware anvil upgrading removed the colors on custom items. I must have not noticed when I added the colors! As an aside, one reason enchants aren't maxed on some custom items is that would make them less unique. If every good unique treasure item had all possible useful enchants then there would be less diversity. So I carefully designed some differences and they will get enchants above normal or attribute modifiers, but not every possible vanilla enchant in addition to that. Treasure swords that have high damage output generally don't have looting. Ones with less damage or no fire may have the looting. Some axes are more for efficiency, others are powerful weapons, and some are hybrids. Some items have a little less damage but do a lot of knockback such as the magnetite hammer and crossbow. So I wasn't thinking it was a huge deal if players couldn't add in what was missing. You get a lot of those items to choose from as you explore every area already and there are more planned and coming. Do you disagree? The items are done kind of like you would see on a CTM map with early ones being good and later ones being a bit better, and sometimes clear upgrades. Some powerful items you can craft as well (like chainaxe and steel shield). I did this to make the game more multiplayer friendly. I will think about your suggestions though.

Has there been any word on when the next update will be posted?
Hey rndmorris! Thanks for inquiring!
I was waiting to know for sure before posting more details. I have had a lot going on irl at the moment and have had less time for developing the map, but it has been progressing slowly! We are mostly done with all the building of the new areas, and have planned (but not programmed) NPC's, items, and encounters in the new areas. I would say we are about 50% done with it, but I am also taking this time to fix a list of bugs and finish some spaceship and command block systems that will need testing before the final release!
I can't promise a release date for the next update yet, but it will be sometime in October at our current rate. Sorry, I was hoping to have more time, but there is a lot of other stuff going on in my life at the moment. We still definitely intend to finish the map though, and I'm aiming to finish the final release before Christmas. We only have 2 people working on this project at the moment and both of us are busy, so dev has been a bit slower this year. I hope the final release will be worth the wait though! We have been planning and working hard on weekends!

Hey everyone! I'm finally getting a bit more free time again! I will be posting some updates after some workdays we are planning this weekend!
In addition to continuing the adventure, we have decided that a large part of this update will be in going over our intro and ship upgrade stuff and polishing it up and making it better. Let me know if you have ideas for that! I've been learning a bit about intro design and I think we can do better in leaving players informed and excited, maybe with more practical rather than all text-based explanations. Not sure yet, we can talk about it. But the intro needs to set the player on the path of what playing the game is like: "Encourage to explore more and get them excited about being a scientist in a new world".
Right now our intro has some novelty in the form of Zero-G and some command block magic, but none of it prepares them for actually playing the game other than to familiarize them with the holodeck info systems that gather and store info on stuff they find. Since actual gameplay is primarily about player exploration and discovery, I think it might help if we manually trigger some interesting encounters early outside the ship. Maybe even start with a few "mini quests" where the ship scanner sees something nearby to check out and points you that way. That way it sets the tone and familiarizes new players quickly with how Biosuit comments and exploration works (aka you must explore to find interesting things, particularly that first year).
I would like to work on and get this intro stuff really nice and exciting as we finish these final couple updates, so let me know if any of you have ideas about how we could have done it better!

Alright, we have finished planning all the details of the next update, including the remaining special items, tech, and some end-game quests! We are working on them over the next few weeks! I will post occasional updates as we complete major milestones.

Hey guys, just a quick update on Space Expedition:
I am very busy with with some important stuff irl right now. We are still planning the final updates and I'm working on small parts of the the next update as I have time, but things will be slow for the foreseeable future until I get more free time. We haven't given up on the project though! It's just the way things are right now. If we had a bigger team they might could pick up my slack but it is pretty much just a couple of us!
Thanks for your patience! Enjoy playing your games in the meantime, and I hope you enjoy the endgame content we are designing for the Final Release!
