Alright, it seems like everyone is patient enough to wait for this update in one big package, so we'll aim for finishing things up this weekend. Thanks everyone!

Hello there!
Time for another weekly update! I’m please to say that, with the exception of loot and creature additions, the ocean area is finalized. However, you won’t see it in an update until the creatures and loot are added, hopefully this or next week. I’ve started work on the next update too, which includes an icy asteroid chain. As usual, there’s some screenshots!
The depths of the ocean stretch to the distant walls of the asteroid.
A small cavern in the asteroid.
A small icy asteroid! More coming next week...
Additionally, you can view the images here: Ocean and Ice Asteroid Update

- Custom Ocean Creatures
- Ocean Spawners
- Design of Ice Asteroids
- Various small improvements to intro orbiter ship
- New Custom Crop: Kelp
- New: Heat Shielding Ship Upgrade
We have been busy irl so it feels like things are going slow but we are pretty close to finishing this update now.
Items left on the Beta 1.8 List:
- Develop 2 new custom techs
- Puzzles in the last 1/3 of Mysterious Laboratory
- Loot and documents in Mysterious Laboratory

are you playing on Beta 1.7.1? If you downloaded 1.7.0 there was an old bug which broke multiplayer and did that in that version, but it was fixed in 1.7.1 and worked for our server test. If you have the old 1.7.0 version download the latest one

Hello there!
A weekly update is here! Danaphanous is hard at work bringing additions to the map, but he was able to design a few creatures for the ocean asteroid! In addition, I’ve finished up basic terraforming for the next update! This includes icy asteroid and caves, which require detailing still. As with every week, some screenshots exist in the spoiler below!
Floating Fire! It's a block of fire, and drops what you would expect from a fiery jellyfish.
A new variety of sea urchin!
Bubbling slime vents! The bubbles don't drop anything, but they look cool.
Icy asteroids have a unique crystalline structure that makes them form certain shapes!
Ok, we finish a LOT of work today. Still not quite finished with the Beta 1.8 Update but much farther along now!
Here's a Bullet-List of Our progress along with some fun pictures:
1. Finished NEW: Meteor Shower event: Has a timer-based quest to return to ship before the first meteor shower hits and does damage. We now have a meteor damaged ship model too after the shower. This now unlocks the Virtual Ship Hangar and Ship Fixing/Upgrading quests.
2. Added: Hull repair and expansion Ship Upgrade
3.Added: Lander work platform Ship Upgrade
4. Added: Floor 3: Living Space Ship Upgrade
5. Added: Floor 4: Glass Cockpit Ship Upgrade
6. Added: Warp Elevator System Ship Upgrade
7. Added: Anvil Workstation Ship Upgrade
8. Added: Enchanting Room Ship Upgrade
9. Added: EnderBox Item Warp System Ship Upgrade
10. Added: Storage Closet #1 Ship Upgrade
11. Added: Storage Closet #2 Ship Upgrade
12. Added: Disenchanter Station Ship Upgrade
13. Added: Recycler Station Ship Upgrade
14. Added: Medical Laboratory Ship Upgrade
15. Added: Chromatic Decor Ship Upgrade
16-22. Big Upgrades that require items from End-Game destinations/quests, you can't do them yet till we finish the areas, but the upgrades are in the system
23: Added: Refined Biofuel Recipe/Quest
24: Added: Enriched Uranium Recipe/Quest
25. Appearance of Holodeck, Hologram Upgraded Ship, and some ship upgrade modules have been improved
26. Added: Copper, Silver, Tungsten, and Titanium artifacts are now recyclable!
27. Added: Chromatic Decor mechanics and sign selection, if you craft this upgrade you can swap the color palette of your room and ship to change its appearance!
Today WAS the BIG day! We finally finished all of the Ship Upgrade system, and tested it all! The Ship Upgrade Tech tree looks and feels great and doing them is exciting! We had a blast making them and slowly upgrading our ship as we tested and I think it'll add a lot to the game. The vision for how the (story-side) of the game will end, is once you complete all of the Required ship upgrades you can escape the system. We will allow an option to go back to keep playing survival though, as we know a lot of players love that side of Space Expedition.
That is pretty much the last of the new core mechanics changes so just gotta finish the ruins and dungeons in the new Ocean Planetoid Biomes now! I'll work on more tomorrow.
Space Expedition to EPIC 204:Go on a Space-Age Adventure to visit and explore EPIC 204, a wacky world of dense asteroids and full of alien life! Experience Custom Seasons, Weather, Over 50 new creatures, Beautiful Biomes, Alien Ruins, Dungeons, and new space age tech crafting recipes!
All right guys! We have decided to split this update into 2 parts to give us more time to test the new area. The one coming out now is the Beta 1.8: Lander Upgrade Update, which will include all the new mechanics, customitems, crops, foods, ship upgrades, and balanced nearby ruins, plus some other stuff. It will be following in a week or so by the 2nd part: Beta 1.9: Ocean Planetoid, which will focus on the large new area we've been working on which is a far-out endgame exploration destination.
Anyway, tonight I almost got the new update finished but found some bugs that I need to go over with my build team tomorrow, but expect the new tomorrow evening! It is almost ready!

This update adds several advanced new features including a functioning Ship Upgrade tech tree with 23 Synthesizer recipes for upgrading your ship to new forms! New ruin items and rewards, new potions, new food items, etc. Custom items that were in old ruins to close to the player to update, have instead been added to chests appearing at these locations: the house near the Volcano and Abandoned Village, so you can still get them. A new meteor shower event which damages your ship has also been added this update. If you want to experience it you can do so by clicking the ingame prompt after you update and log in. Enjoy!

You can download it here: Link Removed
This update overwrites the mesa and nether asteroids, which are far-out areas far from where most players are base-building. If you care about that and don't want this to happen, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS text file carefully and omit the region files I specify
We are still working harding on the Ocean Planetoid area. We hope to complete it and release Beta 1.9: the Ocean Planetoid Update by October 10, Tuesday.
Hey guys! There was a little bit of confusion for a few players regarding the first ship upgrades.
You Must Craft the Hull Repair & Expansion Upgrade to unlock the others!
Because the additions can't be installed before the hull is fixed and expanded. Make sense? That is why the end rods all lead from that upgrade on the tech tree to others.
After that all the optional upgrades are available and the Foundation upgrade. Foundation leads to Floor 3, Floor 3 to Floor 4, Elevators, and Chromatic Decor. I hope this helps!

Hello again!
This week’s update is a bit different than usual. If you’ve watched this thread for a while, you probably noticed that the “Ocean Asteroid” is taking a rather long time to complete. Although I’ve mentioned that future updates will take significantly less time to build, this is misleading, as it does not include setting up planned story, planning the actual builds, or testing each new area. As we are very close to releasing one of our largest updates, we have decided that our small team of active builders (me! sometimes danaphanous or our tester Lezandria if they have time) is not enough to finish this map at the speed or with the quality we hope for.
Assuming you read all that (and we really hope you did!), and you would like to help with this project, quickly explain what building tools you have experience with (vanilla commands, WorldEdit, MCEdit, Worldpainter, or something else), what you like about the map (or hate! If you want to change something, we’ll seriously consider it), and how much you are able to work on the map. (Note: if you are on our build team for at least one major update, you will be added to the “wall of fame” in the map)
Additionally, I’ve constructed an image album with all the screenshots I’ve released here. The new icy asteroids show one example of the terraforming we currently do. You can visit the album here: Build Work
Comp and I got more work done on the Ocean Planetoid update tonight! We have finished with all the creatures and wildlife for all the mini-biomes. This includes reef fish, swamp frogs, tiny sea urchins, ocean fire, spider crabs, and bears.
Since we are getting close to release and more and more people are playing I wanted to give you guys a description of what we are planning in these next few updates, which will ALL be new locations + story:
I believe that we are now on the fast-track for finishing this map. All systems and features are functionally complete, we now are just building the areas we've planned and programming in the Biosuit comments, items, and storyline as we go. Several large custom areas will have a unique item as a reward that is needed in one of the 7 main ship upgrades that you don't have a recipe for. The game's storyline will end when you have completed all the required ship upgrades and can escape being stranded on EPIC 204 by leaving in your upgraded lander.
Here is a teaser what we expect in future updates and estimated release dates:
Beta 1.9: Ocean Planetoid (October 10) - A huge new planetoid is discovered out in nearby space, when you visit using your glider you find a watery world with many unique biomes to explore and locate some mysterious ruins that shed light on the aliens who have been here before you...
Beta 1.10: Crash-Site(October 28) - It is Spring, after your first winter. A year has passed since a freak meteor shower disabled your lander and you lost contact with the large orbiting spacecraft you came here in. You have worked hard to survive since then and learned much more about EPIC 204, your ship upgrades are progressing well but you are missing some items. Suddenly, you pick up a faint radio transmission that seems like it is coming from your Spaceship and set off to investigate...
Beta 1.11: Factions(November 11) - After crafting the long-range system scanner, you pick up several strange signals out in surrounding space and set out on your glider to investigate. These turn out to be new asteroid clusters with entirely different biomes and wildlife. You see what looks like more ruins, but upon closer investigation they turn out to be occupied! You have made contact! Will this be a showdown or the start of a partnership? Choose your diplomacy carefully!
Final Release 1.0 (November 25) - Using the clues you have gathered from all your journeys you discover the location of a massive alien structure, but it is very far away. You save up the fuel and journey far across space to visit it. As you near the alien stronghold your Biosuit detects the energy signature of the last item you need for your ship, but you are detected as well. Will you make it out of EPIC 204 alive?
Space Expedition to EPIC 204:Go on a Space-Age Adventure to visit and explore EPIC 204, a wacky world of dense asteroids and full of alien life! Experience Custom Seasons, Weather, Over 50 new creatures, Beautiful Biomes, Alien Ruins, Dungeons, and new space age tech crafting recipes!
Alright, done for the night. Here's a quick update of the progress toward the next update:
- Bugfix: 2 kinds of fish scales could be dropped by guardians
- Bugfix: crafting tables added to the upgraded ship on Floor 1 and Floor 3
- Bugfix: snow and sand particles from sandstorms can no longer occur in the virtual ship hangar
- Optimization: reduced lag in the ship intro
- Optimization: made secret items in ship intro easier to find
- Optimization: enchanting room ship upgrade now requires 4 obsidian
- Optimization: all ship upgrades now clearly state their prerequisites in the sign descriptions unless the only prerequisite is the hull repair & expansion. Hull repair & expansion now says it has to be crafted first.
- Added: biosuit comments when first visiting the Virtual Ship Hangar to explain tech tree and the 3D upgraded ship model.
- Added: more then a dozen new unique mini-biomes in the new Ocean Planetoid area
- Added: complex puzzle area
- Added: 2 new custom areas: Logging Cabin & Mysterious Laboratory
- Added: Ballast treasure item - when held you can dramatically increase your vertical swim speed while swimming for quick ascents/descents
- Added: 3 new custom crops that players can find and grow: Pineapple Bushes, Coconut trees, and Kelp!
- Added: Kelp slime can be used to make biofuel!
- Added pineapple juice and pina colada custom potions!
- Added: Biosuit messages and info files for coconuts, kelp, and pineapple
- Added: snowballs now can do 0.5 hearts of damage to creatures! (but not people on the Player team)
- Added: Space Expedition now records the current years you have survived on EPIC 204 and you can check in the new Biosuit Book.
- Added: Space Expedition now records the type and number of armor upgrades you have crafted and you can check it in the new Biosuit Book if you forget. Get a replacement book from the recipes Holodeck chest!
Space Expedition to EPIC 204:Go on a Space-Age Adventure to visit and explore EPIC 204, a wacky world of dense asteroids and full of alien life! Experience Custom Seasons, Weather, Over 50 new creatures, Beautiful Biomes, Alien Ruins, Dungeons, and new space age tech crafting recipes!
hey all! There is currently a bug in the map where if you upgrade and repair your ship hull, the emergency medical bed on Floor 2 stops healing you. This is because it moved a few blocks. I'm sorry for this and will have it fixed in the new version coming out in a couple days. The idea is that even though you can regen while out exploring, you can make potions or come back to sleep in the medical module as a backup. Winter is pretty hard without that option which is why I originally added it. For now, feel free to heal yourself with commands or give yourself a regeneration potion if you sleep in the bed. I'll have it fixed in Beta 1.9. Sorry!
Also, in other Beta 1.9 news, I got most of the command work out of the way. All areas are finished except a section of the mysterious laboratory and a few last touches to the mini biomed of the ocean planetoid. There will be 2 new technology items you can find here and use along with several new dragon bones and special items and mobs. I hope you guys enjoy!
Also, the recycling list is getting an overhaul. I decided to add string-based and glass-based items to the recyclable list. This opens up loads more options for getting string plus a couple items I missed that were iron and leather based:
tripwire hooks, bows, fishing rods, beacons, leads, bottles, wool, banner, bed, paintings, carpets, item frames, beetroot, and sugar cane are now recycable! This brings the total up to 110 total new recyclables I've added now!
Space Expedition to EPIC 204:Go on a Space-Age Adventure to visit and explore EPIC 204, a wacky world of dense asteroids and full of alien life! Experience Custom Seasons, Weather, Over 50 new creatures, Beautiful Biomes, Alien Ruins, Dungeons, and new space age tech crafting recipes!
working hard on the map tonight! I finished pretty much all the core changes, new items, creatures, and biomes. Just working on finishing up the big ruin at ocean planetoid now.
Here is the list of new mechanics changes I did since my last post:
- Added: Ocean fire, Spider Crab, Block Bot, Pineapple Creeper, and new sea urchin type!
- Added: Info files and holograms for: Ocean fire, Spider Crab, Block Bot, Pineapple Creeper
- Added: Guardian’s Gaze custom bow
- Added: new Ballast Control Biosuit upgrade. You can turn on and off the ballast ability using the new Biosuit Book once crafted. Get a replacement book from the recipes Holodeck chest!
- Added: Steel Shield synthesizer recipe: to give a bit more craftable armor your first year!
- Added: you can now eat the sprite cores by holding them in the offhand just like custom fruit. They give you one hunger point and a brief potion effect. Eating the wood sprite core now replaces the Stem Drink for healing as it does essentially the same thing.
- Bugfix: 2 kinds of fish scales, power cores, and slime fertilizer that didn’t stack
- Bugfix: upgraded ship’s medical bed did not apply healing
- Bugfix: players could sometimes go through nether portals and they wouldn’t fizzle out
- Optimization: removed lag in the ship intro from end_gateway blocks
- Optimization: Stem Drinks have been removed from the map
- Added: Light Bridge Emitter custom item and mechanics
I also laid the foundation for the changes in 1.10 that will allow for the custom creatures to spawn with any language, not just english. This change has been made for a few mobs in spring and I'll release it in 1.9. If no bugs are reported I'll do it for all creatures in 1.10 making the map closer to being compatible with all languages.
We are also making some changes to the ship intro for clarity and multiplayer friendliness: Like a "launch ship" sign in the holodeck when you first arrive and an animation of time passing. Also, a title command upon login telling new players to turn on multiplayer chat and click the gray "continue>>" to get started. Some people had the chat off and thus were confused. Also, a clearer warning that once you go to the virtual interface you cannot return to the orbiter
I'm done for the night. Didn't quite get finished but got close. Another work session or two and Beta 1.9 will be done!
Got a lot more good progress done today! Various optimizations and systems finished. Pretty much just working on the last few puzzles in the Laboratory now. I should be finished with this sometime tomorrow night I think.
- Bugfix: a recycler exploit where you could get multiple recycles from the same item
- Optimization: players now receive a regeneration boost after death, to restore the second health bar
- Optimization: death markers now have the glowing effect so they are easier to find!
- Added: Obsidian ruin portals can be used if you activate the obsidian receiver arches! You will find 8 of these on your journeys and can activate them for fast-travel. As of Beta 1.9 there are 3 obsidian arches that can be found and activated. More will be added in subsequent updates
- Finished designing loot for new ruin areas
- finished some of the puzzles in the Laboratory
Right now I'm testing and finishing the last few areas in the big ruin and then making the adjustments to the game intro! I'll hopefully be posting up Beta 1.9: Ocean Planetoid tomorrow!
Compsogbrickus has been getting a head-start on the terrain for the next update and will post his update Friday. Beta 1.10 should be a fun one though! We have a lot planned story-wise for that one!

Ok, finished almost all of the sections and puzzles and items in the new ruins today! Did not quite get done with the update though.
I still need to test with my friend the full thing, add in some biosuit comments, fix up the intro, and do one last area. I am really proud of the puzzles ruin section. I think you guys will enjoy it as a refreshing change of pace! There are some optional items and secrets to these areas so pay attention if you want bragging rights for finding special items!
I'm busy most of tomorrow but I should finish this up sometime saturday latest if not tomorrow.

I need help, whenever I load up your map, it seems fine but me and my friends wanted to play your map and we spawned on top of the virtual reality place in the game
are you playing on Beta 1.7.1?

A cavern in an icy asteroid. Work in progress!
Additionally, you can view the images here: Ocean Creatures and Icy Asteroid Update
Hello, I am doing a series of this map, if you want you can include it in the post (it is in Spanish the series)
Awesome! Thanks for sharing TransMilleno!
Ok, we finish a LOT of work today. Still not quite finished with the Beta 1.8 Update but much farther along now!
Here's a Bullet-List of Our progress along with some fun pictures:
1. Finished NEW: Meteor Shower event: Has a timer-based quest to return to ship before the first meteor shower hits and does damage. We now have a meteor damaged ship model too after the shower. This now unlocks the Virtual Ship Hangar and Ship Fixing/Upgrading quests.
2. Added: Hull repair and expansion Ship Upgrade
3.Added: Lander work platform Ship Upgrade
4. Added: Floor 3: Living Space Ship Upgrade
5. Added: Floor 4: Glass Cockpit Ship Upgrade
6. Added: Warp Elevator System Ship Upgrade
7. Added: Anvil Workstation Ship Upgrade
8. Added: Enchanting Room Ship Upgrade
9. Added: EnderBox Item Warp System Ship Upgrade
10. Added: Storage Closet #1 Ship Upgrade
11. Added: Storage Closet #2 Ship Upgrade
12. Added: Disenchanter Station Ship Upgrade
13. Added: Recycler Station Ship Upgrade
14. Added: Medical Laboratory Ship Upgrade
15. Added: Chromatic Decor Ship Upgrade
16-22. Big Upgrades that require items from End-Game destinations/quests, you can't do them yet till we finish the areas, but the upgrades are in the system
23: Added: Refined Biofuel Recipe/Quest
24: Added: Enriched Uranium Recipe/Quest
25. Appearance of Holodeck, Hologram Upgraded Ship, and some ship upgrade modules have been improved
26. Added: Copper, Silver, Tungsten, and Titanium artifacts are now recyclable!
27. Added: Chromatic Decor mechanics and sign selection, if you craft this upgrade you can swap the color palette of your room and ship to change its appearance!
Today WAS the BIG day! We finally finished all of the Ship Upgrade system, and tested it all! The Ship Upgrade Tech tree looks and feels great and doing them is exciting! We had a blast making them and slowly upgrading our ship as we tested and I think it'll add a lot to the game. The vision for how the (story-side) of the game will end, is once you complete all of the Required ship upgrades you can escape the system. We will allow an option to go back to keep playing survival though, as we know a lot of players love that side of Space Expedition.
That is pretty much the last of the new core mechanics changes so just gotta finish the ruins and dungeons in the new Ocean Planetoid Biomes now! I'll work on more tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Beta 1.10: Crash-Site (October 28) - It is Spring, after your first winter.
Beta 1.11: Factions (November 11) - After crafting the long-range system scanner, you pick up several strange signals out in surrounding space and set out on your glider to investigate.
Will you make it out of EPIC 204 alive?

This brings the total up to 110 total new recyclables I've added now!

working hard on the map tonight!
