So, any reason why switch-grinding isn't working? I'd sure like to use those lvl 2 derps I caught, but if no exp is assigned to them if they're switched out in battle, then it might just be a tad impossible.
My guess is that it's not possible with the Redstone.
Another question is there a command I can use when I get stuck in proximity of an npc
Example: I walk past an NPC and it triggers the proximity stuff but nothing else happens no text showing up or fight starting
So, any reason why switch-grinding isn't working? I'd sure like to use those lvl 2 derps I caught, but if no exp is assigned to them if they're switched out in battle, then it might just be a tad impossible.
Unfortunately too difficult with the redstone at hand. It would require around 30x more commands since it adds all of those contingencies, plus even more with move learning and evolutions. Therefore, you would have to employ different tactics to achieve this. It's definitely not impossible - the Vs. Seeker might help. Good luck!
OK, I'm willing to pull this apart as much as I can, but I'm limited by time at the moment, and I do not wish for this forum thread to turn into something that it shouldn't be.
"Before I go into more details, about your response. First, note, I haven't tried to look behind the curtain to see how many command blocks etc. are there, making sure everything (okay, most things) works... I do have some moderate experience with programming. Just so you know where I derive my opinion from."
I can tell you're trying here, but unfortunately "moderate experience with programming" just isn't enough. Command blocks are a completely different animal. Coding by text is far easier than dealing with a physical, 3D environment hindered by constant server lag. You cannot compare in the way you chose to. Your subsequent paragraph is dismissed to that extent. I can see where you're going, but it just doesn't work like that.
"Had I been anywhere past the mentioned point (before the first rival battle), I most likely would've had a working team already, so the entire point would be moot. So, essentially, your solution is to skip the rival battle which you placed there and go through Traverse Cave first to get the VS Seeker."
Not quite true - after the initial story outline, your lead should already be at LVL 8, only a single level below your rival's main. I admit to a fault that TM Dig should be obtainable ahead of the rival encounter, but it seems like that alone isn't necessary to win. In addition, I have no idea what "lvl 2 derp" is referring to. Perhaps you can enlighten me later.
"switching is not a free action. If you switch out, the mon you're sending out will take damage from the incoming move, so you'll need to heal up. But healing isn't a free action either, so you will take another attack. Rinse and repeat, until a: the enemy attack misses (rng), b: the enemy uses a non-offensive move (rng), or c: the enemy crits and takes you out (rng)"
I can only question your strategies here. While your later argument points back towards the lack of switch-grinding, you shouldn't need to rely on such strange methods to train. I'm not a stranger to Pokémon. I'm actually pretty bad at it. This map, while difficult, does not require this.
"So, the question arises: if [switch-grinding is] difficult to do, is it worth doing?"
I think you (not me) need to visit command blocks to properly rationalise my answer to this question.
"Daycares. Leave your mon with us and the grinding will do itself, slowly but steadily. Of course, it has some problems, like automatic move learning and skipping evolutions (which I can definitely understand why you didn't include in Cobalt/Amethyst), but you get some, you lose some."
Then you'll also understand why "switch-grinding" isn't a thing in this map. It's basically the same thing. An extra slot. More contingencies. Again, please read my immediately foregoing answer. This should cover your next several paragraphs where you continue to discuss the same thing.
"You can quietly fix it and update the download and just tell people who already have it to run one /setblock command and voila, problem solved. But instead, we got "just don't fall into it". With an approach like that, it's no wonder you're not willing to fix the game's mechanics if it's way more difficult. But then the question is, if it's too difficult and not worth doing, then why did you try to make a Pokémon game in vanilla Minecraft in the first place? There are other options, way more friendly for Pokémon games' specific mechanics - RPG Maker, or actual romhacks. Or was it just meant to be a display of skill, regardless of the end effect?"
Unfortunately, I am stuck with a horrific internet connection, which means updating the download would take substantially longer than most. There were /setblock commands on the bug tracker, but I've decided to remove them and only leave the more critical issues there. Surely switching to creative and then back to adventure mode wouldn't cause any more lag than a /setblock command. You can find this link on the main forum thread. Not sure why you didn't mention this in your post. I'm disappointed. The map is a display of skill on many levels. The end effect is just the same. It's so much more than you're making it to be.
"And speaking of romhacks and attempts at displaying one's skill"
Please, you cannot compare a Minecraft map to a ROM hack.
Thank you for your kind words on the music. I'd like to keep analysing what you've said, but it sounds like you're trying to compare apples and oranges, despite some design differences. Of course, there could be some improvements. I've admitted to these already - if you'd like to respond, please do so via my email ([email protected]).
Regardless, I'd like to commend your positive use of knowledge of Pokémon. It's sad to see you won't recommend this map to anyone on the substantial basis of a lack of switch-grinding. As someone who isn't so good at Pokémon, I was able to complete this map without any difficulty. As a veteran, you should be able to do the same.
Did anyone notice that the guard at Route 17 has Logdotzip's head?
All of the guards have Logdotzip's head. I think that's a good "nod" (pun intended lol) to Logdotzip really getting this out into the open into the first place, back when it was just "Pokemon in Vanilla Minecraft".
Quick Question is there an attack like false swipe, which takes down the health to 1 hp ?
No, "False Swipe" is not in the game.
Bug Report: Pokemon in the Boxes don't appear in right spot or don't appear at all but are still there
well figured out how to prevent it you just have to keep them all one after one no spaces in between
I think there's something else going on there. Pokémon storage with spaces in between will automatically fill those spaces when you exit the PC. Do you recall precisely what you did that may have caused this issue?
@VersilPerihelion: I'll have to get back to your post at another time if you desire a more in-depth response. Thanks!
I already postet this in the "Contact" tab of the offical webside, but i wanted to be safe, that i get some advise, so i post it here.:
First of all: this is a realy great map. But I have a problem: everything is stable, I have about 100-200 fps but it takes up to 2 seconds for the inputs to give an output, wich isnt much of a problem... well exept, that it the fights are very slow because of that... i press my attack. 2 seconds later my pokemon starts moving (the movement/animation is laggy to) then 2 seconds later the enemy gets damaged... Im using Optifine in the 1.8.9 with 9GB ram (my pc has 12GB ram). So... any fixes? I saw it smooth in the trailer, so it has to be a problem of my side. Please help me, because i realy want to play this, but the fights are like 4 minutes for a wild encounter.... and thats pretty boring
Otherwise, this is mostly a server side issue. May I see your F3 screen? There isn't a lot I can do here apart from recommend that you close background programs. Looking at those specs, I wouldn't have guessed it would take this long for a battle to run for you.
I feel like you don't get the point of the map. It's not supposed to be a complete replica of Pokémon, it's supposed to be Pokémon in minecraft. The whole point is not recreate Pokémon but rather make a version of Pokémon in minecraft. And I know I seem to be repeating myself a lot but thats only because you feel you need to do the same in your paragraphs... So hopefully you understand and if you don't then why bother continuing to post.
Sorry for this post seems hateful but I really hate seeing people that try to tear things down because they are not as creative or skillful and live in there own universe where they are alway right. All you do is make yourself stand out like an idiot.
PS: this was written on a handheld meaning there is problaby a lot of spelling mistakes and I don't really care to fix them.

@VersilPerihelion : Just want to add to your statement, that in MC there aren't any real variables you can use. We have scoreboards which can save a number, but we can't use that number in anything. We can see if that number is in a certain range (or a specific value), but we for example can't use this number for coordinates in another command etc.
Just wanted to point that out, so you know why Phnixhamsta meant "basic programming knowledge" isn't enough to question a minecraft map.
PS: regarding some of the other points like "switching is a turn" etc.: It's the same in normal Pokemon games, why is it a bad thing here?
This map is really fun. I mean I know I've only played it since the first gym battle (even though I got the map the 2nd day that it came out), I'm slow and I like to grind my Pokemon a lot cause I'm perfectionist, lol.
I mean like, the amount of work put into this map is amazing, but thats not all- the constant coming back to the map and showing of bug fixes makes this map even better. Sure, I will admit, with my laggy computer, this map runs VERY slow, and every time I play, multiple bugs show up. (Thanks again to the command thingy that fixes if a battle messed - you showed this to me on one of the first days and since then, its helped me with countless bugs of the same nature).
I also have to thank you for the XP Boost DLC. I don't like using that kind of thing, but its very necessary with my laggy computer. And in a way, its fair. A battle that could take someone with a faster computer 1 minute could take me with a newer computer 5 minutes. I'm very sensitive with these kind of things and don't like cheating in any way even if it saves me time and nothing else. That's the one thing I don't like about this is because I'm kind of forced to 'cheat' with the XP Boost due to my computer, but this is my own problem. Plus, this definitely shouldn't take away from how awesome this map is. Even with the occasional lag or using the XP Boost making my level ups go faster than I would of wished, this map is still AMAZING to play and more than I could ever ask for.
What I also like is the community that comes from this. Especially all the small youtubers, such as MushroomManToad and many others that I watched/still watch due to Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst. Its just an amazing community, exspecially you Pheionix. This map in my opinon is 10 times better because of the community around it.
Well anyways, enough talking about Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst, why don't I go back to playing? Maybe someday I'll get through this gym battle. XD
No worries! I shall be following your series! =)

Must be a trainer that you "lagged" past. You can just clear your slowness effect if that's the case ("/effect @p clear").
