Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to introduce you my latest creation: Swapping Chunks.
To put it in a nutshell, Swapping Chunks is a PvP map in which players fight in a randomly generated arena. The arena evolve during the battle too.
The map can easily support more than 30 players and you can make up to 8 different teams.
The arena consists in chunks of 8*8 blocks that can be randomly swapped. When a chunk is going to be destroyed, you'll have a little warning in your hotbar and explosion particles. If you want to live, don't stay in these chunks.
The longer a player stay in a chunk the higher the chance for this chunk to be destroyed: You'll have to move!
Three gamemodes
- Flag Keeper: Catch the flag and keep it as long as possible with you. First team to reach the goal win.
- Melee: Each player has a predetermined number of lives. Last team alive win.
- Fight For Fun: One life, no team. Perfect for quick games. And to spice up the thing, special zombies can spawn.
Powered by Minecraft 1.9
Most of the new features added by Minecraft 1.9 are present in this map: Shulker, offhand weapons, custom cooldowns, shields...
You're not used to these features? A tutorial is available in the lobby!
Notice: Under no circumstances can this be posted to other sources unless otherwise agreed by the creator. You are free to make and share screenshots or videos of the map as long as you add a link to this page in the description.
Because I was really boring, I improved a lot the first achievement.
- New parkour added in the lobby
- New achievement (more or less)
- Removed all bats with NoAI tag (totally broken by previous snapshots)
- Fixed Desert biome
- Minor tweaks to Beacon
- Bundled a readme and a server.properties file with the save
And.. that's almost it. We'll try to do big scale testing this weekend, another update next week for the release of Minecraft 1.9 and all should be fine.
Something is coming. Or maybe not but let's hope it will.
I'll open it for a small group of people to make sure everything is working as intented then to everyone (probably just in time for the release of Minecraft 1.9).
The idea is just an auto-start every two or three minutes if there's enough player online (coupled with a complete reset if there's less than three players on the server).
I really enjoyed the map (one of the best I've played), but the main problem that I ran into was that the other players were able to camp on the desert towers (on the big chunk) and if anyone tried to get to them the person could just get knocked off. So, my suggestion is to add a timer if the player stays on the chunk for too long. The chunk would "swap" with itself, killing any player left on the chunk, or a second option could be to swap the big chunks with other big chunks.
There's 9 Achievements unlockable and 5 Ranks from Steeve to Enderdragon. Achievements are small rewards linked to specific actions (win a game, complete the -hidden- parkour...) and ranks are representative of the number of player killed.
The desert biome should be called "Corrupted Desert". Experiments leaded by ancient civilization have created strange hole. And those broken portals are still making weird sounds.
This biome was intented to be harder with various trap you can use against opponents. And the quicksands are very sneaky.
The map does not react the same way when there's 5, 10 or 20 people playing. Items do not spawn the same way and chunk become instable more or less faster.

Random Fact #1
I started this project in April 2015. One month later, I posted this picture on a french forum.
At this point, gamemodes and the way to get items weren't determined yet and only 25 tiles were available. There's 98 today (49 for each biome).

Update for Snapshot 16w07a
We've hired 6 new villagers due to the departure of some villager during last week.
Remember a happy worker is a mindless worker, therefore, we've removed the AI of these new villagers.
The beacon have been buffed (10 targets instead of 3, may include entities in next version instead of only players)
Fix enchantment table not giving book
Fix wrong display for green and yellow team

Like Replica in its time (2 years ago), here's a small public server if you want to test the map. Players are not included: tell your friends!
Server IP:
159.8.75.39:58547 (or mlakuss.mcph.eu)
The map is not working on 1.9 pre2 due to a Minecraft bug. A temporary fix is available on the server though.

It's also an issue with some high chunks (mushroom ones), In theory, some items should be able to kick off these campers. I'm looking into this.
Map updated
Reduced the high regeneration of saturation, combat should be shorter.
Improved a bit security
Villagers are now replaced after each game to avoid vanishing/moving villagers
Horse are slower when you hold the flag now
Notice: There's a bug in 1.9-pre2 with spawners, items will not spawn in the arena in this version.
