Another problem I had found (and a solution) was that these blocks didn't show up as their "chiseled nether brick" state if you had Optifine and Connected Textures enabled.
.
In the book at the start you may want to add "Disable Connected Textures if you have Optifine."
HAH I think I found something else after poking around the redstone.
Those two command blocks there are set to "execute @a ~ ~ ~ /playsound portal.travel BonyRaptor101 ~ ~ ~ 0.5" therefor rendering the sound useless to everybody except you. This wasn't reported and wasn't found, as you could hear it, and nobody else knew they were supposed to.
Boss would occasionally rise into the air, ending the fight.
The first nether sign would give two versions of the book.
Lightning from the prismarine monument would get stuck 'on' for some people. It now force shuts itself off after leaving the prismarine zone.
I just played through the latest version (1.5) and the boss just rose into the air for me (it didn't happen before).
I also would like to add that when you kill the creeper in the paradise cave section, it doesn't always drop 2 gunpowder, and I ended up having to reset and kill it at least 5 times to get the correct amount.

I'm not sure exactly where that is on the map, but if it has my name I was probably using it for testing purposes. Nice find though.

The creeper drops a random amount of gunpowder, since that is hard coded into the game. The reset disk is in case he doesn't drop enough.
Which stage of the boss were you fighting when he rose into the air? The only way he can do that is if the creeper down in the redstone is killed, and he should have resistance in the second and third stages. He does not have resistance in the first stage, but none of the attacks should be powerful enough to kill him since he is immediately healed again. Were you lagging? That can throw the redstone timing off a bit, potentially killing him before he can be healed. I do have one other idea, but I'd have to know which stage the boss was in.

Alright, the lag will do it for you. However, I just got an idea that may actually fix the issue even for the lagging players. I'll give it a try and see if it works. If it does, expect it in version 1.6.

This was such a fun, creative, unique and innovative map. I only wish it was longer! All the puzzles were so satisfying. The redstone & command block work was very impressive. Kudos!
Great map, yet I am very stuck in the ancient monument.
After flipping two switches, four lights went on, four beams were 'shot' into the beacon. Four more to go. But now comes the problem... What next? I've ran through the whole monument a lot of times, but I don't find the solution.
So, I drank the Hint Potion, and it said that I should 'read the book and follow the instructions'. Well, that would certainly help me if I actually had a book. I assume that drinking the potion causes either that a book gets put in the inventory or that a chest with a book or a book spawns. Neither of these happen.
According to what I read here, there is a cracked wall in the temple, which I've also seen. I have to run through the wall, but that doesn't work.
You do need to run into the wall, but you need enough speed for it to work. Stand right at the top of the staircase, then sprint into the wall. It will shatter inwards. If you get stuck again, there is a walkthrough in the original post for this map. It should explain any other issues you have. Enjoy!
Very nice commanblock work all around, the particles were pretty and good use of the 3D textures, I liked it Sky Serpent was crazy xD
If I may ask, how did you do the commandblocks for the "cutscenes" (flight in gm 3)? Did you do them by hand or generate them with some script?
Well done, only thing I could have asked for more was some story, the previous stages could have contained some lore ultimately leading up to the sky serpent. Now it was puzzle for the sake of puzzle.
Simplicity started as a project so I could test out the new commands in the 1.8 update. I sort of turned it into a playable map, so there isn't any story with it. Maybe I can include lore in the next one. I'll have to see. Glad you enjoyed it!
As for the cutscenes, I used the amazing MCedit filter by Crushed Pixel to generate them, then edited them a bit by hand. Here's a link to his video:
It is broken. I have tried on several different versions of minecraft but the sign in the nether place continues to fail to give me the ancient book and the button doesn't spawn the armor stand.
Wow, considering the problems other ppl are talking about having I guess I'm pretty lucky that the only bug I got was the sky serpent disappearing in its first stage. There are still issues with not getting the ancient book??

Yeah, I have no idea how people are still having issues with the ancient book. It's working fine for me, and everyone else I've tested the map on. I think its just a minecraft bug. :/
The sky serpent vanishing on the first stage is rare, but a definite bug on my part. It was fixed in Version 1.6.

Update for everyone having issues with the spell books not appearing and the armor stand not spawning:
ColinWild was nice enough to upload his broken version of the map for me to download and examine. Even though the file was the same, it still worked perfectly fine for me. This appears to be a bug in Minecraft itself that only effects certain people.
I'm utterly baffled with why this would be an issue for people. It seems to randomly occur, making the map impossible for some people but completely fine for others. I'm sorry for everyone who is having these issues. If you'd like to just give yourself the books, go into spectator mode and fly through the walls until you get to the redstone in this picture. (it will be right next to you, just outside the nether)
Press all five of the stone buttons, in order, and you'll get the book.
I'll keep trying to figure this out.
Unfortunately this fix did not work for me. I pressed all five Stone Buttons, but they each gave me a sign labelled "Custom Sign" instead of a book.

In that case, simply place redstone blocks next to each piston. You'll get the fully upgraded book (skipping a large section of the nether) but you should be able to continue playing from there. This is a very strange bug in Minecraft and I have no idea why it exists. Let's hope it gets fixed in Minecraft 1.9!

This mapa seem really cool! Thanks for this!
Yeah the issue with the boss disappearing happened to me as well, but I wasn't even lagging, looking forward to that fix in 1.6!
don't click this link...

Simplicity has been updated to Version 1.6.
I fixed the rare chance for the final boss to despawn in the first stage, and streamlined a few other things.
