I need to figure out how to do the whole video thing..... seriously. Every tree farm I've seen so far pales to the TWO I've got going, one of which has over 60 trees of two different types!!!!! (Oak and Spruce) I'm honestly shocked that no one else has figured this little trick out yet.

Is there some trick to get spruce? I want spruce but I haven't found any saplings for it yet!

I want ocean content(thanks Möjang!), nether biomes(again thanks!!), and savanna passive mobs (meerkats incoming!?).
There is an area in the game which is easily accessed from the beginning. That area is spacious, secluded, and most importantly RARELY (I have seen 3 so far) spawns Ghasts, so they don't take away from farming time. At this point in the game I have 40 apples (I have been saving them since the beginning) and two full stacks of oak seedlings..... all because when I go to harvest, I harvest all 60 trees simultaneously and the drops are thus working with each other. (Best harvest so far was 12 apples at one time) I have 4 stacks of wood and 2 stacks of charcoal at this point.
As for Spruce --- I could tell you, but I would have to kill you afterwards.
No seriously, there's 2 saplings that are hidden in Bob's store, but I can't give you the coordinates without pissing some folk off.... apparently I'm one of the few who've found him so far. (What can I say, I like to explore in odd directions.)
Nevertheless, the spruce is out there, and once you figure out where I'm growing my tree farm, you'll understand why I have nearly over 60 trees going all at once.... of both types...
review my pictures... I've already posted up pictures once... And Andria has already talked about this area as well and shown pictures of it too.
I'm curious what the trick is you're refering to? My tree farm isn't meant to be spectacular btw it was just the start of something which I have already been expanding as I find time to do so
Why I mention it is because it seems to be taking people a while to get trees to pop up / grow --- and in my area, I'm having them grow so that I'm harvesting all 60+ at least once a day or so. They really are unimpeded as to height / width or shape... and they seem to grow almost as fast as I plant the seedlings sometimes.
Oh, one more thing, James ---- you passed by the area in question in your video today when you were looking for brown mushrooms. It really is that close to your original Nether spawn point --- and it makes an incredible home base to work from.

You could try using Bandicam. I used that for the videos I made. You can download the free version and it'll let you record up to 10 minutes per video and it'll throw a Bandicam watermark at the top of the video. It's pretty easy to use. Just make sure you set the video to record in .mpg format. It defaults to .avi which takes up a ton of hard drive space, and when you convert it to a smaller format you may lose a lot of the detail.
Guys, has anyone found the ancient path yet? It's a path I built in Exiled that has no nether brick. The start of the path isn't too far from the portal but it can be a little tricky to notice it.

This might be the first time ever that anyone has grown mega-taiga spruce in the nether. granted, this would have been far easier on the ceiling but I think our hollowed mountain is cooler.

Guys, has anyone found the ancient path yet? It's a path I built in Exiled that has no nether brick. The start of the path isn't too far from the portal but it can be a little tricky to notice it.
I stumbled upon something today unexpectedly ---- I was pushing the limits of direction... literally shooting off hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of blocks from the Nether portal..... and looking for a good place to create a Zombie Pigman harvest base..... when out of nowhere I got a bridge that was destroyed and a semi-house that had NOTHING in or around it. It looked like all the other ancient ruins.... but there was no cool chests or anything other. The snapshots are on my wife's computer, so it will be a bit before I can post them up.... but it was different and frustrating.
I was really hoping I could push past all the in-game goodies to set up a base where I wouldn't have to worry about exploring or such.... just mop up the mobs and loot.... but I guess I will have to push further out to see if I can find another area.
ooooooo the wife just stepped away to wash her hair... maybe I can zip in and post the pictures now.
Like a Bridge over Laaaaaavaaa fountains, I will burn you down....
did what I could to cross the chasm... here's a shot from the other side of the house
As I said --- middle of nowhere, nearly 600 - 800 blocks out from the Nether portal.... and here I thought I would honestly be past all the ingame stuff.... oh well, back to the drawing board.
This might be the first time ever that anyone has grown mega-taiga spruce in the nether. granted, this would have been far easier on the ceiling but I think our hollowed mountain is cooler.
My new goal is to beat that by growing a giant spruce on top of a giant spruce.

It looks like some sort of clue, a piece of the puzzle perhaps. That's not the ancient path, though.
I dug around it a bit, but there was literally nothing there. Pretty much just an abandoned house.... with that one little "altar" like I have seen elsewhere. What caught me offguard, as noted, was just how far out from the start it was. I honestly figured I would be clear of things like this... and I wasn't.
The bridge actually was pretty cool though, I have to admit.
My new goal is to beat that by growing a giant spruce on top of a giant spruce.
You do that and I'll just have to grow a spruce on top of a spruce on top of a spruce! fu fu.
Bethel, we did spend a long time working on this map. You very well may find areas quite far out from base, and not all are there to provide you with loot. Some are just small ruins. We were thinking about adding a few more in far-out areas as updateable optional content as well.

Now James is only 5 subscribers away from 100, and Pure's not far behind (subbed you both even though I really don't log into YT).
At any rate, just wanted to add my vote for the keep inventory on, yet have a penalty. I have this map downloaded, but afraid to play cause of those pigmen. That would cause me to be afraid to explore far away from base, find some good loot and then the pigmen decide that they want my loot instead. Besides, we want to see James and Pure progress far...and not feel as bad when either of them die for any number of reasons lol.
Teehee, no worries the default download already has the rule on. The one called Exiled-V1.3.0-NORMAL. I still have the original difficulty as an optional hard download but the default now has the rule on but still takes away all your xp upon death. I made that change last week after some discussion. It still feels a bit easy compared to normal survival but it is worth it given many players might quit if they lost all their good stuff like Pure.

Great to hear Pure, cause you both make a good team, I have enjoyed watching both of your videos video's ( even cave in and final battleground ).
@ Dan, ahh! That IS the one that I have and now I am not so scared to go ahead and give it a shot myself. I love survival maps where you basically start with as little as possible... but with some thought and hard work, you are able to unlock everything that is possible to find in a fresh survival minecraft world. So, earlier I was happy to hear that battleground has this as well ( regarding the ability to make sea lanterns, thanks to james ). I am really looking forward to the new one that is being planned as well. Thank you very much!
If you like survival maps that really challenge and change your playstyle Exiled is probably the best we've done in my opinion. However, unlike Final Battleground, don't expect to get access to every block on the map. You'll get what's critical but we didn't bother to give sources of many blocks that are purely cosmetic (like sea resources). That would just be unrealistic for a waterless nether map. However, you can get all those things once you figure out how to escape and bring them back afterward.
In the meantime there are some very real shortages of certain things that will both challenge and change your playstyle. Pretty much everyone that has put in the time has loved the map though for precisely this reason. Our build team really enjoyed testing it as well. It just has such a different feel than any other survival experience. And though it's difficult, after you've gone through the danger and challenge of exploring, building, and surviving on this map you get a huge feeling of accomplishment. I hope you stick with it! There's a lot to this map. You could easily put 50 or more hours into it and still be discovering new things and there is a lot of secret content as well for the dedicated.

I took a look at your blog--you've been to a lot of places I hadn't realized anyone had seen yet! Looks like you found that path I made! Did you have any difficulty traversing it?
Reading through your blog, I am reminded that I should go explore that hole in the lava. I've just never gotten around to it. I skipped most of that section because I don't want to spoil the surprise. And then you started a mooshroom and cow farm and I realized I've been sitting on a couple of mooshrooms and thinking to myself I don't have a source of leather! D'oh! Well I've got a few things to occupy my time with then! And I might come out of it with another material I can sell to villagers!
P.S.: your texture pack really bothers me. It has way too much red for my eyes. X.X
Update on my end: I've got a Silk Touch shovel! I am going to slowly convert my village into something prettier:
