Welcome to the Sea of Cinders, an inhospitable sea of lava dominated by a towering volcano. It is your mission to survive in this harsh landscape long enough to complete the monument.
Explore barren islands, towering fortresses, and massive volcanos in this Sea of Flame inspired CTM map.
This map is built to ease players into the difficulty many expect from a CTM with a difficulty curve that starts off easy and grows to a moderate difficulty as the map progresses.
The map has 8 objectives including a bonus objective.
This map is made to be played in Minecraft version 1.12. If you play it in another version it will not work properly.
These are full 16 wool CTMs. Depths of Irkalla is now fully released.
1. Depths of Irkalla
Irkalla is the underworld of Babylonian mythology, a land with no escape. Depths of Irkalla is a full 16 wool CTM map. It is a long linear branching map map and medium difficulty. The map follows standard CTM rules, which are listed in the map.
I used the vanilla texture pack to create the map and I recommend you play it with vanilla on. If you choose not to then things may look a bit odd.
This is for Minecraft 1.6.4 or later, although I noticed some issues in 1.8 snapshots.

Mini CTMs
These are 3 wool CTMs made generally for Strawberry Jams. Expect to see another one here after the next jam. These are shorter maps that can be beaten in around an hour and a half or less. My mini CTMs tend to get you into the action fast, with a lot less grinding than a full CTM.
1. Ticking Chill
Ticking Chill is a map created for the January 2015 Strawberry Jam. Mapmakers had 72 hours to create a CTM map around the theme of "countdown." This was my entry into the jam.
This map is a mini-CTM map, in which players fight to survive and complete their objective: the Wool Monument. Ticking Chill features a freezing mechanic which lowers the player's temperature over time, leading to different negative effects and even death. The only way to raise your temperature is to stand near fire. Unfortunately the mechanic only works in singleplayer. There are 3 objectives in the map and overall it should take between 1-3 hours to complete.
Abandoned in this desolate and frozen land, will you be able to keep warm and survive long enough to complete your objective?
This map is for Minecraft 1.8
And Oatman and Tad's multiplayer LP (Note: the mechanic is not built for MP):
If you record and finish the map, post the video(s) on this thread and I will post them here!
2. Mage's Escape
This map was made for the 6th Strawberry Jam in under 72 hours. The theme for this jam was Traps, Trolls, and April Fools. In this map you play as a mage on a mission to steal the three relics (wool) from a realm, but you're captured during your task. Can you escape and claim what you came for, or will your own cunning and skill not be enough to overcome the forces against you?
For Minecraft 1.8, medium difficulty, 3 wools long.
This map was made for the 7th Strawyberry Jam in under 72 hours. The theme was "Shattered Sky." In this map you play as a Spectre Hunter who must enter the Spirit Realm to acquire three Spectral Fragments. To fight the enemies you find you will need to use special, custom weapons. Screenshots:
This map was made for the 8th Strawberry Jam in under 72 hours. The theme was "Haunting." In this map you'll have to fight the creatures of darkness and adjust your tactics accordingly. This is a 3 wool map; you have not beaten it until you've collected all 3 wool. It is medium difficulty and for Minecraft 1.8. Screenshots:
This map was created for the 10th Strawberry Jam. The world is overheating. Your goal is to go and stop it from overheating by collecting wool. But don't take too long, every minute you waste the world gets hotter, and the heat will have unusual effects on the monsters standing in your way!
This map is a harder difficulty than my other mini CTMs. It is made for 1.10. It is a 3 objective map.
Special thanks to nb and bio for helping out with testing the map. Screenshots:
Go on a journey to collect the Treasure Crystals as the captain and only survivor of your airship, and hunt for the remains of your lost crew. This map features an upgrade system, custom items and weapons, and mechanics that change the way you accomplish your objectives.
This is a mini CTM with 3 objectives. The difficulty is moderate-hard. The map is for 1.10
Delve deep into the corrupted forest to find a way to destroy its black heart. This map features a custom health mechanic, custom items and weapons, and custom mobs with new and interesting behaviours.
This is a 3 objective mini CTM. It is a moderate/hard map. The map was made for Minecraft 1.10.2 and should only be played in that version.
Thanks for checking out the map, and feel free to leave feedback! This map was made for the Heartbroken Strawberry Jam. Thanks to Render for testing the map!
Looks nice! I think I might try it out. Also once later versions come out make sure to put your downloads in a spoiler.
EDIT: Downloading now!
DOUBLE EDIT: I think the start is a little too hard but this is open beta after all.
Thanks for giving it a try! And the start either goes really easy if you start off well or really hard if you get yourself bogged down. Once you get established the first areas of the map shouldn't be too difficult.
Thanks Crimson. Most of the work the past year has actually been practicing my screenshot taking abilities, so it's good to hear that didn't go to waste.
Agree with everyone else that the map looks amazing. I'll record a first look at the map and post my feedback when I'm done! (=
Congrats on releasing your first map!

Oh thanks! I thought I must be really terrible or something. Infinity gave me some advice for that first part so I might be able to get fairly well established.

Did Infinity tell you to make a ton of grinders? Because I wouldn't be shocked. I think he made more grinders at I1 than I've made in Minecraft.
@PL9 Thanks! It's a good feeling to have finally released it. I look forward to your feedback!

No he told me where to find the loot because I had too many mobs spawn and I was rushed out of there by the mobs so I didn't get a chance to look around.

I just finished playing about ~25 minutes of the map!
I really love the vibe and aesthetic from this so far. I wish I played more CTM maps, but from what I can tell I think the map is amazingly fun and looks stunning like even the most popular maps. I would definitely recommend this to players (=
The first area is tricky like you said. There are a lot of mob spawns, but it is certainly doable if you are smart and careful (which I wasn't). I think there is still a good argument for toning it down. Being a bit easier would give players a little time to warm up to the map, especially players who are new to the CTM genre. But it is perfect if you are going for an elite player-testing start.
Also how are checkpoints reached? I wasn't able to find any set spawns or beds/wool between the start and intersection one. It was a little tedious to have to run back to the Pharaoh's Tomb every time I died. Of course, I may have just missed the checkpoint entirely.
Lastly, how do you pronounce Irkalla? xD I wasn't able to figure it out.
Here's footage of my experiences if you are interested!
I loved the video! And I would like to see more too, although you might need a few tips if you're going to continue. The areas will be harder if you don't prepare for them, and I don't think you played it like a traditional CTM as much.
Everything you need in the beginning area is all where you spawn: Wood from the bedrock box-thingy, cobblestone from the walls and floor around you, and then you can get food and coal for torches right outside of that spawning area. All that makes the map a lot easier.
Then just general tips for CTM maps in general: Few maps have natural spawns disabled. To disable spawners all you have to do is light up around them, so you can just run through with torches and disable the spawners in a room without being vulnerable while taking each one out.
As far as checkpoints go, there is a bed as loot in the first area, although I don't think you found it, but there aren't any setspawn structures in the map. The map should just feel like difficult survival with an objective.
And the very first time you said the map's name you said it correctly (or how I've been saying it, at least).

I just saw the first 10 minutes of that video and he broke through a wall that was only 1 block thick. I think you should thicken that wall so people don't dig straight to the end of the first area on accident.

Skipping a couple spawners in the first area isn't a huge deal, and it'd be about as much to build a way down as it would to fight through that bend. I'll probably change it anyways in the next update I put out, but I wouldn't say it's enough to warrant a new download.

Hey, thanks for the awesome tips (=
InfinityMiner also helped guide me on what a CTM map is like.
I definitely played the map with too much of an adventure mindset, which caused me to neglect obvious survival aspects like making stone tools.
I don't think the difficulty of the first area will be a huge issue. I was concerned that maybe the amount of mobs would distract players from absorbing the strong scenery in the beginning, but I think a normal player would take the time to set up in the starting area, so I think that'll give them the time needed to get immersed in the game.
Thanks to you and InfinityMiner for taking the time to answer questions and give tips to me! Haha, I learned a ton from this. I'll keep posting questions and feedback as I progress through the map!
EDIT: Wait, I forgot to write the original question I had. I was confused about what you said about natural mob spawning since the next sentence talked about monster spawners. Were you saying most maps have the gamerule domobspawning true? Or were you talking about mob spawns from monster spawners occurring with the gamerule false?
For your question: most maps have natural spawns ON, the second part of my sentence was just saying how to disable in-game spawners. Also, Infinity seems to be the Irkalla guru with all the help he's giving people.
Update: I've made an update to the map to fix a few minor things things I overlooked before releasing. Any future updates will wait until major changes are made to the map. Also added a "Videos" section to the original post, as well as a couple signatures courtesy of Infinity8miner. Thanks to everybody who's checked out the map so far! Feedback is appreciated!
