Almost every map detail and puzzle mechanic in these levels mimics DK 64 as closely as Minecraft will allow, including the banana barrel mini games, the mine cart rides, and the boss battles! A strategy guide for the game can double as a strategy guide for this map.
The resource pack contains most of the music, some of the more recognizable sounds, and a re-texture of certain items to look like collectibles in the game. It's pretty big, so if you don't want to want to use it, use this version of the map instead. It's not as up to date, though.
I added a resource pack for the map! It's mostly music, but has some sounds and a few item re-textures. There are over 100 music tracks that loop and change as you move to different areas!
First of all, great work on the map! It was great to be able to play my favorite childhood game on MC. You may receive some criticism, but me personally, I enjoyed it for what it is, and I loved it.
Secondly, I wanted to introduce you to something. Someone on youtube is a music remixer. I noticed that he remixed all of the music from DK64 and made music for an "addon" for DK64 (basically a sequel). He made up some levels, lobbies, and boss battles that had their own specific music. I will link his channel in this post and you can see for yourself. All I'm wondering is if you could possibly be able to recreate that addon in MC. You could maybe ask the youtuber for permission to use his music. I think this would be a great map for your mapmaking skills. Once again, thank you!
And one more thing, sorry to bug you. I was thinking, will there ever be a central multiplayer server that everyone could get on to play this together. I think it would be really neat, but I can understand that it would be rather difficult to figure out what would happen regarding people wanting to have turns to play the story by themselves. Maybe you could make the multiplayer stages from the game and make a mini-game style game-mode for the players. Anyway, that is my input, I will not bother you again unless you reply back. Have a great day
I'm a Minecraft Youtuber and I would LOVE to do a playthrough of this map! I just have a few questions.
1) I know I can't play this map on versions later than 1.8.5, but is it possible to play on an earlier version such as 1.8.4? The reason I ask is because there is no release for Optifine for 1.8.5, and my computer like to act up without it (optifine) while I'm recording.
2) If I were to post a let's play, would the video be featured on this forum
Awesome map by the way, though I've only completed the tutorial, I can tell this map is different and special from the other recreations of old N64 games.
Please reply at your earliest convenience, either on this thread, or by e-mail : [email protected].
Playing in earlier versions of 1.8 should be fine. The real problem is only with 1.8.6. It removed command blocks being shot from dispensers, which broke a ton of maps including this one.
I look forward to watching your videos and will post them on the thread if you wish.
Here’s my project of recreating all of Donkey Kong 64 in Minecraft.

The maps are designed for single player.
Use 1.8 to play, but not 1.8.6 or later. The more recent Minecraft versions have a bug that breaks certain features.
Use a chunk render distance of at 8. You could use more, but you might see things in the distance.

New update: the map is finally complete! DK Isles, Hideout Helm, the banana fairies, and the final boss have been added!

Go to that round green island. The ship is the tall one next to it.
Yeah, I know that "ship" seems a little top heavy, but DK 64 doesn't take physics too seriously.

Just a note, the youtuber has not made up the entire story line of the addon. So you can use some creativity with the map if you decide to make it!

Hi, MetaKnight,
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I'll consider it when thinking of my next project
The multiplayer stages have already been made by someone else, so I decided to just stick to the adventure mode. You should check that out.
Donkey Kong 64 PvP Map
Making the Rambi and Engarde mini games for multiplayer sounds like it would work, though. I loved that Rambi game.

Also I can test out your new maps if you want me to
Thanks for the offer! I'll keep that in mind.
