Hey Tikaro, how did you put all the fancy colors and descriptions on the items? Playing your maps and others have inspired me to try making my own map and I'm wondering how I could do the fancy item stuff you've done.

You can use either some kind of NBTedit (I prefer this one) or All-u-want to access the name\lore parts of items. After that, this wiki page will tell everything you need to know.

There's a map in Cathedral Blaze that says "Dig Sand" and it has some sort of a shape to it that probably represents the layout of Cathredral Blaze. What's the significance of that? I've pretty much checked everywhere there and didn't see any sand to dig. Honestly the area was way too short and would've loved to tackle it more. May I have a hint as to where the sand is?

All U want mod is the best to create them, is really easy and quick

May I please get the coords for all the intersections and the monument? My Unified tp system somehow broke and I'm not interested in troubleshooting or fixing it. I'm just gonna hack in command blocks and do the simple tp command and button. Thanks, much appreciated
Love the map so far, just finished Tale of Demise and Desolated Breakdown. Died like 7 times.
Tikaro, do you have any mapmaking advice for newbie mapmakers? Any tips/tricks for designing areas? Are there any other tools besides MCEdit and All-U-Want that are helpful? Since you're currently designing SP03 I feel it's a somewhat relevant question.
Speaking of SP03, it's been a month since the last dev update...

Hmm, let's see...
MCedit and All-U-Want is for sure enough to make a good cave-style map (this is pretty much all I've used to make both SPs). IN-game NBTedit can be helpful, but it is mostly made redundant if you use All-U-Want. If you want some dope overworld terrain, WorldPainter is a godsend (there is also a thing called World Machine that can be used in conjunction with WP to make very realistic landscape, but I haven't looked into that).
As for the general (and probably very obvious) tips:
- Have at least some kind of idea for an area before starting to work on it. Just staring at a blank "canvas" trying to think of something can be quite demotivating. The idea can even be very vague like "a lush cave with wooden structues". After that you can go a lot of different ways depending on what you want: it can turn into a colorful fertile oasis, hanging gardens with treehouses all around. Or possibly into remnants of a poor village, rotting away and overgrowing with greenery without anyone to look after it. Browsing something like deviantart can help a lot in the idea-making period.
- Don't be scared to experiment. Even if already like what you did, you can make it a better just by tinkering with it for a bit. And if you do some damage, you can always revert back.
And last but not least...
- Do goddamn backups. Seriously, they are the holy grail of map-making (or any creative work in general).
Story mode time: back when I was building the original Stains of Time for SP02 (the one in the map is actually the second incarnation of the area), I didn't do any backups while working on it. Several days after, when the area was done and I've been copying it around in MCedit... the power randomly vent out, erasing the area from my clipboard. And because the last backup I've had was before I started working on the area, it was gone for good, with the name as the only thing remaining.
If you want to talk about stuff that is more specific, or just have more of a general laid-back discussion about map-making, just PM me.
Hey there, I finally managed to publish my episode 11; reaching the Tranquil Bastion!
I know SP03 is reaching completion... I'll try to finish my Let's Play before it (reminder: it's in French )
I'm glad you're continuing! Don't worry, you have plenty of time to finish your LP, SP03 is still far from being done.
Speaking of SP03, I'm sorry about the inconsistency of dev. updates. For quite some time, I was occupied with all kinds of other stuff, which was cutting into time I could spend on the map. With the summer starting I hopefully will have more time and will to work.
Great map! I just finished it with 16 deaths.
However, I'd like to report a bug -- 8 of my deaths were because of it.
Here's what happened:
I got to the area right before the black wool, with the wooden button. I pressed it, and then died with the message "... was killed by magic". I'm not sure if this was intended -- maybe it was a witch that killed me.
When I respawned, I was in the calm area containing the black wool. However, I had no gear. I took the black wool and pressed the button to return.
Since I had no gear, on the way back I died from naturally-spawned mobs. That's not an issue with the map.
However, when I respawned, I was back at the teleporter to that garden thing (i.e. the button right after the big castle in the black wool area). Since I still had no gear, I was essentially stuck, because I couldn't get to any gear without dying in the process and then respawning right back where I started. Of course, there was no bed that I could break to reset my spawn point to world spawn.
tl;dr: the game set my spawnpoint in a place where I was just continually dying with no way to stop it.
The death was intentional, the button kills you. You're intended to die, get a piece of wool, and make the trip all the way back to the monument without any gear. The challenge of getting back depends on how well you lit the area, how many of the spawners you took out, and if you left any spare gear in chests throughout the area.

Just type the command "/scoreboard objectives @a Int 3" (without the quotes) and that should fix the teleporter.
You really should get around to fixing that, Tikaro. Perhaps a 1.8 update will fix things?
I guess it will.

I haven't posted any sneak peaks in a while, so...
What do you think about this massive wood?
Looking Niiiii-ice!
Question: Are you coming from the structure on the left towards a wood/cave? Or vice versa?
10/10, would chop.
Seriously though, that is a pretty good tree. Can't wait to see the area it's in.

Not enough massive. IGN 7/10

This was quite a good map.

New route, new record. Sub 8 hype!
I started an LP of Overload. Although there is like a million let's plays of it, I'd really appreciate it if you could check it out.
View here:
If you wanted to say, add it to the LP section on the thread I'd be totally fine with that.
Apparently AdeltaM's Animosity video linked in the Let's Plays tab no longer exists. Just letting you know for next time you update the OP, Tikaro.
