Playing a bit.... Already had to restart once, after I fell into the caves too early (or perhaps too late). I'd like to endorse the suggestions above of putting the goals in the welcome books, and of having one of the later chests reveal the locations of all previous chests.
I'd also like to make one suggestion which you might already have done (I haven't gotten very far): Have "backups" for the saplings and spawn eggs in later (bonus?) chests. I already lost my oak stock when I got chased into my shelter before I could harvest it properly, and as noted above beeches don't always produce a sapling. (ETA: Also mushrooms, if there aren't any in the caves. Lost those to a bad death....)
ETA: Make that 3 tips for the guy who's subsisting on apples, and I'm embarrassed I didn't figure out the first one first:
1) After your first night, you can pick up some bones. What does bone meal do to bare grass?
2) Once you can kill a spider: fishing!)
3) Once you can build a big house, or at least a high roof, try some bone meal on those mushrooms...
I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
The chest with the animals spawners (pig, cow, chicken, and sheep) is right below the very first chest you find.
There's a cave under the beach
directly to the left of the very first chest, with an entrance to another cave which has the chest
I also have a sneak peak on how Ocean Island v2.0 is coming. The island now has a mountain, and the caverns are now much more numerous. The ores are also closer to being the accurate numbers. Let me know what you think!
Honestly, not a fan of the mountain or decreased ore rates. More caves are great of course. But anyways, i will just be sticking to the first version. I have no idea why you changed the island. The mountain blocks of so much space for building and adding life such as trees, farms, grass, etc. Whoever gave you those ideas --and if you got them yourself I am dissapointed-- must not have appreciated the beauty that can be created on a simple island. No insane mountains needed. Perhaps leave it at v1.1 and start another Miner Nature map? Then again, I am just some idiotic 12 year old kid with no life so....

Yeah, personally I didn't really like the mountain either. It was suggested, so I thought I'd make it and see what people thought. Not a lot of people seem to like it, so I won't do the mountain. I am thinking of doing other things, though, like dried up creeks that can be filled, making it a bit more dead looking. The ore difference isn't as much that there's less, just that the percentage between different ores are more realistic (i.e. more coal and iron, less emeralds). It isn't going to be a gigantic change.
Glad to see everyone's having fun! We've nearly gotten 2,000 downloads! Keep it up!

I'm glad to hear the general look of the island is going to stay the same. I had an idea of possible having bonus chests on tiny islands far out from the main one? Of maybe the islands themselves could have resources on them which are usefull for spreading life? I think this would give a reason to explore places aside from the island and caves. Possibly you could even move that mountain to in the ocean?
oh my goodness! episode 1 of my let's play for this map just reached 100 views! it's become my most popular video in under a week! good work rizardon9998! this map is absolutely fantastic!
episode 8! please keep in mind that this is the last episode before I go to the surface and start to actually 'spread life'. I just did a Nether episode so I could tick it off the list enjoy
i will be ding a lets play of this island for my first series on my channel here is my channel like video will be up in about 2 hours http://www.youtube.com/user/Rezolvez
Nice! I really like the idea of the map, but only one thing, how about putting only one jungle tree sapling instead of four? So you would need to wait to get four sapling. This way it's too easy to get wood.
Jungle trees seem to have a smaller chance of dropping saplings per leaf. I've tested many times with one sapling, and I nearly always didn't get on back. In v2.0, you won't get the jungle saplings immediately, but will be hidden off in another chest.
Also, I'm sorry I didn't get the update done in time. I have to be gone all week without Internet, so hopefully all goes well while I'm away! Glad to see everyone's having fun!
episode 9! I finally get above ground to do some farm work and build some animal pens! I'm currently on holiday so I have no more episodes to upload but I will record whenever I get a chance! editing won't be a problem just recording :/ but until I get another episode ready please enjoy episode 9
