I probably did get the "below" one, since I started on the bottom level and worked my way up. Maybe I would have connected it with the "Up" sign if they'd been "Up" and "down" or "above" and "below", but "up" and "below" didn't link in my mind.
I actually did leave that book (and alll the others I had, since my inventory was getting full) in the "pain" chest. It would be nice if you could make something happen -- a UID to find? some other kind of bonus collectable? -- if someone leaves the one book there after opening the chest, that doesn't happen if they don't. Or if they leave more than that book. I don't know whether there's a way to test for which books/items are left, though. (I know you can test for 0 items vs. some, but I also don't think you can test for 1 vs. 2.)
The trapped chest was probably the "empty, my bad" one. I think I only noticed the "my bad" the first time I opened it, and after that I just noticed that it was trapped and wondered what it did.
One more suggestion.
I thought the hint to leave the "undeveloped" personalities at the end was pretty clear, and I'm surprised more people didn't get it. But it would also be nice if it actually made a difference to the endgame.
The hint in the begginning that the end is "impossible for you alone" is intended to warn you that you can't escape in the end. But now that there are 2 endings, maybe it should be that as long as you are "alone" you can't escape, but if you are not "alone" -- if you keep those UID's on you -- or better yet, spawn at least one of them!! -- then you can escape to the light? You would need some more clues, I think, to give people the idea to actually spawn some, without being TOO obvious about it. (And the UID's are supposed to be optional, I know, but it's pretty unlikely that anybody would actually get to that point without having at least one, right?)
Maybe there could be a pressure plate that is the only way to open a door safely, but the only way to get the door to open and stay open is to put a spawned villager (or some other spawned entity) on the pressure plate? This wouldn't work in multi-player, but then in multi-playwer the character isn't "alone" from the start, so that's a little different anyway. But in single player... maybe a minecart on a pressure plate in an alcove, since once you push a mob into a minecart it stays there? And the minecart would also help give people the idea to put a mob in there.

v1.7 will have the signs changed to "above" and "below".

"impossible for you alone" means you need the ender pearls. But I doubt anyone clued into that.
It's an idea about multiple endings. I'm sure if I made a "good" ending it wouldn't have the same effect.
Maybe the next map I'll figure something out.
I really never wanted multiplayer in the first place but I know a lot of people prefer to play with a friend.

I have finally uploaded all my adventures on this map. It was simply amazing and I had a blast playing on it. It has a little of everything that any player would enjoy. If your seriously considering this map then this is certainly one you should play.

Hm ... does Forge, Inventory Tweaks, Optifine or Rei's Minimap limit the reaching distance or are there really about 3 UIDs which are too far away? Had to fly 3 times and still had only about 57 UIDs in the end. But I'm not sure about the correct number. Lost the correct number after some messing around in creative after finishing the map.
