Doh! I'm so frustrated, I recorded like nearly 3 hours of footage (which will be edited into several episodes), including my first view of the nether, and I discovered when I started editing that I didn't have my mic configured correctly! So no live puzzled reaction to what I saw in the nether, it will all have to be commentary after the fact
I think I figured out how I'm doing my cobblestone generator, though, it ironically requires some snow blocks to hold back the lava

Awwwww. In spite of that I'm looking forward to seeing what you have done. I still haven't built a satisfactory cobblestone generator.

Boy, I hate when that happens.
Not sure what's worse: Failed microphone, just game audio -- sometimes that's OK; or, having to completely chop the audio and redub half of it, moving what was recorded around, adding new stuff in-between, etc.
Most of the time, if I fail that badly, I just re-record.
Sometimes, the video is priceless ...
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
So the Nether audio was mostly just "what the heck? how am I .... ? whaaaa....??? but where is... ??" and stuff like that, but yes, it would have been nice to have that audio captured.
EDIT: Good news! The audio is on the original AVI files in a second track!
Previously, I was using a setting in Bandicam that combined the audio from the mic and the in-game into a single track. I turned that off for a different project, but forgot to turn it back on.
So it did record both, but put them on different audio tracks. I can hear them both when I play the AVI in Windows Media Player, but when I pull the file into Window Movie Maker, it doesn't have any access to the second track, so all I get is the in-game sounds.
Anyone have any experience with windows movie maker, and know how to get around this problem?
The only thing I found on the web was this post where someone suggested extracting the audio into a separate file. Not sure how to do that, though.
Of course, I found this out after I finished re-doing the audio commentary for episode 4 (which is currently uploading...)
Got my second villager last night WOOO!! Took hour of hunting the fools around my base only to find a zombie trying to comune with the villager in camp.
I'm having too much fun. Now to get to building the new village.

The definition of Insanity is, doing EXACT the same thing over and over again expecting things to change... THAT is crazy.
If I remember well, I put a woodblock inside the frame and it worked fine. Maybe I was lucky?
Congratulations about your trap without water MegaTrain.
Thanks, Melusane, I was pleasantly surprised that it worked so well. I've actually gotten a few Enderman in the trap, and one ender pearl. They can spawn in the channels, that definitely wouldn't happen if they were filled with water.
Yeah, I didn't put a block where you suggested. Not sure if that would have helped, its kinda moot now.
So I finally made it to the nether! Witness the weirdness!
Nicely done, Megatrain. I like how - even though you had a perfectly functional cobblestone generator in the Overworld, you still went back to the Nether to test your idea of a generator there.
Congratulations on essentially beating the Overworld part of it. You still have to make a village and whatnot, but now that you have torches you are no longer in incessant danger there. I'd like to tell you you're out of the woods altogether, but I don't want to lie to you
Very nice job MegaTrain, my cobblestone generator was not as efficient as yours! It just gave me the cobblestones I needed for a brewing stand.
Very nice use of crafting tables! So your cobblestone end up under the final two water blocks? If you put a couple more crafting tables into the lava to make a diamond with your cobble, you could make yourself a good place to stand while mining.
Any other wood-constructed blocks that don't burn? I think wood slabs burn now, when they didn't used to.
Hmm, wooden pressure-plates are fire-resistant, but not sure if they hold back a wall of water or lava. Standing signs would also work, I think.

Ladders, too, though they've got to be on something.
IIRC there's a bug with standing signs and water, though I don't remember exactly what that bug is.

Here's mine after I replaced all the wood and snow with cobble. It's actually very fast since it is two essentially 2 lava hitting one water. Enchanted pic's tear it up.
With the lids off
Water runs 8 spaces just to the edge of that cobble block in the center, there are 2 source blocks of lava 2 spaces away from the center. Lava runs TO the water not the water to the lava. That way it can't make obsidian. With the covers on you get most of the cobble blocks you mine.
Pressure plates will hold back water as will signs, just tried it.

Then I misplaced it the second time... I'm not cut out for this.
Third time...
Restarting is the key to this map. If you don't mess up something so much that you have to restart, you're not trying hard enough

Also trapped a zombie villager! (for future use)
I'm having too much fun. Now to get to building the new village.
Also was able to recover the original audio!
I said this on YouTube, but you sir are the master of the cliffhanger.

I know you can put signs on top of signs, but you can't walk on them.
