The early slowness is an issue, but you can lessen it somewhat by planting EVERY SAPLING YOU GET until you run out of dirt. Keep one mycelium (if you want easier mushrooms) and one grass (for your eventual animal spawning field and wheat farm) and use every. single. other. block. of. dirt. for trees. 10 saplings grow a tree 10 times faster than 1 sapling.
And if you don't get lucky with apples, favor oaks to all other saplings (except maybe jungle saplings, especially if you get 4. That's enough wood to do a *LOT*) to increase your chances getting apples.
Also, don't jump unless you need to. It's better to walk around a hole then fall into it and jump out the other side. Better, put steps in common walk paths so you don't need to jump at all. And fighting saps hunger too. Save the experience farm for later, when you've got more food options.
I've made progress with OB3 a lot. The only thing I want to know is where the rest of the diamonds are? Can you give some hint? Do I need to dig out all the ocean floor? or they're in Nether?

There are 3 diamonds in the starting block. That's it. Unless you want to break into the emergency chest.
Unless someone is more clever than I, the only way to make a jukebox and an enchantment table is with those diamonds.
Going absolutely nuts trying to get my villagers to spawn.
Mad3e little 3x3 houses (The inside, the walls are five by five) They look so silly, little pods all connected by bridge.
At this rate, I'll have all the sugar cane grown to trade with the villiager who wants 21 paper before I get a child!
Edit: -cough- Scratch that. I left minecraft up on inventory when I was typing that, and lo and behold, look over just after posting to see a baby priest running around!

Congrats!
I strongly suggest looking into the exact requirements for villagers in a village. If you make your village very compact with small houses, you could end up with them thinking there are no houses! Also, you need about 3 doors per villager, so until you get about 9 doors down, you won't see a kid no matter what!
Yeah. Up to six huts and seems to be working nicely. Each hut has four doors, and I'm up to four or five villagers. (The little ones run around so fast I can't keep track of them)
They keep drowning or something though. Ah well, haven't lost one I could actually trade with, so no harm done.
They're getting fenced in soon.
I guess i never had any luck with the Jungle Trees... I got one sappling from the first set of leaves, but none after that, including after using the one from the emergency chest. It wasn't that they fell over the edge as I had made a large floor of half slabs from each of the chunks of wood, I simply didnt get any from the leaves... If I know how to grow the huge jungle trees, it probably wouldn't be an issue.
Luckily I farmed a decent amount of cocoa beans prior and kept a couple jungle trunks once I realized I had no more jungle saplings.
My only comment is that I feel it takes a long time to get to the nether. Getting iron is incredibly slow. I admit, Ive never worked with villagers before, but it just seems tedious... *wait for 6 trees to grow, build a hut, waits for villager to reproduce, repeat till an iron golem spawns*

6 trees per house! That's crazy! The simplest "house" (from a villager's perspective) takes 8 blocks of wood, or 2 logs. Stack 2 of the blocks of wood one on the other, and use the other 6 to make a door, and then put the door on the blocks of wood. Bam, your villagers think they have a house.
And there is no need to wait for your villagers to reproduce. Build enough "houses" to get 16 villagers and then leave them alone for a while. It takes a while for the first couple kids to get born and grow up but after that they ramp up just like any other resource.
Can I go to boat to the left side of the block?, where all the sheap are and all?
From the Rules: Do NOT visit the Mainland until you have completed all challenges. This is a flatland biome so there's not much there anyway (Except slimes, and you shouldn't need that. See below)

Most of the wood that you use is to make the base on the water to place the house. I have been doing a 5x3 house with 6 doors, with fences surrounding it. It ends up being a 9x7 base so even using half slabs is ~32 blocks you need, and the house takes 63 blocks as well if you include the doors, fences are another ~40 blocks. Houses are more resource intensive than you would think.
Damn, I'm reading about you guys playing and want to play myself.
I always start hardcore worlds and then leave them because I just don't like them anymore. This time, too, while waiting for Horseman to make a hardcore OceanBlock, I've started a regular HC world, found a nice lowland Extreme Hills, made a shaft to bottom, wheat and cow farms... And then I suddenly do not know what to build anymore. Well, next thing is to mine, light up the neighbourhood for a mob farm, and look for a village... But damn I'm tired of my base already.
What do people use to edit maps nowadays? MCEdit?
EDIT: Well, no, I don't want to make my map anymore. See how it goes?

Drop the fence, and fence in the entire area you're going to put houses in.
Skip the corners, that saves a lot of wood. Plus, when resources are no longer scarce you can come back and just add nice stuff to those corners, pimping out your huts without having to remove them.
Though I long ago dropped making actual houses, and instead put a 2-tall pillar with a door on each side. 3 of those and your villagers will start making babies. Just make sure you place them so they are 5 blocks apart, or the doors will "see" the other towers and no longer be considered a "house"
I have a question for you video-makers. What do you use? Fraps? Or is there a nice, free alternative? I've thought about doing my own video series but am balking at shelling out the cash for Fraps.

I have the full paid version of Bandicam. If unregistered, you can record for up to 10 minutes but it will have a www.bandicam.com watermark at the top center of the video.

Yes, you don't get it
You complete challenges, while trying to survive!

Nice! I did the nether portion a dozen times or so to make sure it was doable, and I failed all but the last time
I don't know what others use, but I used a combination of creative mode, MCEdit, and BiomePainter.
Then you better get to making more strength potions!
No just kidding, I'll remove the 2nd one after making this post. Thanks for finding that
DO IT DOOOOOO ITTTTT
Read the first post, it tells you what to do.

greetings!
SIR YES SIR! --salutes at attention--
With that said, here is part 1.
Parts 2, 3 and 4 will be uploaded sometime tonight too. I will make a separate thread in the Videos section for that.
I have the full paid version of Bandicam. If unregistered, you can record for up to 10 minutes but it will have a www.bandicam.com watermark at the top center of the video.
