Review for Floating Island Survival by FunCrazyKid
I know I've said this before, but this map has a lot of great potential! I'm not just saying that to be nice and all, there really is a lot of room to expand! This is actually the second survival map that I've played, but it was lots of fun! Anyway, getting to the point, there were several aspects that differed from SkyBlock. While the large abundance of recources made it much more relaxed and enjoyable, I felt like it reduced the challange greatly. At some parts it almost felt like I was just playing regular minecraft survival because of the sheer size of the island. But do not let this discourage you from playing this map! It had several perks as well, such as The Haunted
Forest. This mysterious wodded locations was quite fun, and I enjoyed exploring through there and finding the hidden mystery of the woods. That idea needs to be expanded on! Do more with the Haunted Forest!
Likewise, I found the seperate smaller islands to be quite rewarding and fun I also liked the goals, I found them to have a good spread from simplistic to very challenging. I'm the kind of guy who likes to have a "quest list" of sorts, with main quests, like finding 10 endstone and getting a full set of diamond tools, while completing easy side quests, like making a cactus and sugar cane farm. One thing this map lacked was a quest that will make this map stand out for a long time. I'll explain later in the suggestions.
Rating:
Creativity- 5/10 Had a fair amount of new ideas, but for the most part followed the survival template
Challenge- 6/10 Not really very difficult to accomplish most goals, but finding the 10 endstone was definitely no easy task!
Length- 6/10 A lot of rather monotonous grinding, but that's to be expected from most survival games.
Entertainment- 7/10 May not be revolutionary, but I enjoyed playing it!
Total- 24/40 This map is still a WIP and has lots of room for improvement.
Likes and Dislikes (contains spoilers)
Things I liked:
-Many resources allowed you to die without major penalty
-The small dirt island allowed you to make a home in peace without the absolute clusterf**k of mobs on the mainland
-The Haunted Woods!! Work with that!
-That hidden room with chests
-Start of the different biomed islands
-The various goals and the challenging searches for resources
Things I didn't like:
-Lacked a number of new and creative ideas
-A lot of monotonous searching for ores
-Not much of a challenge, just takes a long time
Suggestions:
-Make the Haunted Forest even more daunting! Add some spawners, increase the number of trees and proximity to each other
-Shorten the spawn island, instead split it into several small, biome based islands
-Make a puzzle to open the lever which reveals a new chest instead of a simple walkway up to it
-If you go with the biome based islands, maybe have a challenge in the jungle island to reach max height using thick
jungle trees
A fun survival map, FunCrazyKid, keep improving it, and you can go far with it!
Also, here's parts 1 and 2 of my let's play, more coming soon!
