This is the first survival map I've played, and I am having a blast with it. But something really weird is going on. I can't get any mobs to spawn inside the ant farm at all. There were a few at first, but they stopped spawning after I'd only gotten two bones. I even built a simple mob grinder in the far upper corner, completely lit up on top and sealed dark, but not a single monster has spawned inside.
The spawners are still spewing out mobs, and if I crank my graphics all the way up I can see some on the bed and table, so spawning is working. Just not in the ant farm. It's only one achievement I won't be able to get, but it still bugs me. Oh well. Having fun anyway.

Figured it out. There was a metric assload of mobs under the bed and in the windows. Deleted them in MCEdit and mobs started spawning inside the ant farm right away. Probably the new skeleton AI clogging up the dark areas. Don't know why they aren't despawning naturally. I'll just blame Herobrine.
I was inspired by this map to start a map with the same "big" theme. I had so much fun making the map, that I started a series. Congratulations on a job well done with this. If interested, please take a look at what I have done with the idea. By the way, I didn't make any ant farms in my map. I figure that ones yours. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1108795-ctm-new-verques-odam-sspsmp/#entry13614285
I'm gonna experiment making the room perfectly proprtional. i.e.: 1 giant block = 84x size of normal blocks.
If it looks nice, it will be version 3.2!
But if everything becomes so big that the game fails to render it all, then i'll just stick to 3.0.1 for now.
you need grass for peacful mobs like chickens to spawn and a light level 9 or above. try building a dirt stairway down to the chicken spawner and give the grass time to spread then the spawner will start spitting out chickens.

I have been using a 1 block = 1 inch method, works well if the room is not too big. An example would be if a coffee cup is 4 inches high then it's 4 blocks high, etc. Look forward to seeing what comes of this type of map making. Been having a good response on my map so far.
I personally don't think the dots in the middle interfere all that much. I did test it with only the outline, but it didn't look...solid.
I can make a larger version of the Ant Farm without the mod! I could make a bigger one that would extend all the way to the floor of the house. How bout that?
I wanted to do that, but considering land level is about at y 64, all the terrain would be at the height the window.
If you stay in the Ant Farm, the game won't render anything much further from the window. That's why I kept from making too many details outside.
Easter egg:
Open the map in MCEdit. Go wayy beyond the huge house into terrain that was already generated. The real-sized house I used in the video is in the map!
It was meant that when you returned from the nether you appeared right next to the real house. I guess that only happens in multiplayer though.
And silverfish are the closest things to ant that the game has got xD
But I agree, in the hardcore version I will change them to charged creeper spawners. If that's possible.
Either way, don't expect to play for too long in the hardcore version. #evilface
I probably will!
There are supposed to be 2 redstone ore blocks.
I could add more, but much of the challenge is to rationalize and not waste extremely limited resources
I think that might take out the natural feel of things. Isn't diamond an ultimate goal?
oops. Pig spawner wasn't meant to be there. That's a spawner I forgot to set. lol.
That ain't cake, that's sugar!
Cuz, yknow, ants like sugar or something. lol.
The first episode isn't that interesting because I'm talking about the channel and other stuff.
Take a Look :

I would love to get some support on my new channel and some constructive criticism for how to improve!

But it does look pretty

Please fix it soon!
