Another thing that's worth noting, the Skull Collectors don't trade the skulls for Blazes, Cave Spiders, Regularass Spiders, Ghasts, Magma Cubes and Pigmen. Villagers are really finicky with NBT data for items they trade, so I'm guessing something changed between the making the villagers and making the mobs that drop skulls. The standard skulls (Zombie, Skeleton and Wither Skeleton) all work fine though.
Yeah, I noticed that when I played through today. My guess is that the custom player heads that drop from mobs are getting a new UUID but, I haven't checked that out yet. If you mine the custom heads that are around the obelisks, those still trade.
No need to apolagize for the "rant." The gear tier/loot seems to be the main issue with overall balance. I've got some ideas to fix that in the future but, would require rethinking every chest in the game. Something I didn't reallly have time for in the Jam version so I just gave you more than you'd ever need. I think the fact that natural regen was off made me subconsciously treat the map like it was in Hardcore mode, and I planned things out as if I wanted the player to be nearly invicible.
I'm thinking this map would definitely play out well as part of the VF series with some tweaking. I will most likely start fixing/changing things and come up with a version for a public/open beta. Adjust things based on feedback and suggestions. Maybe make my Trello board (which is basically my todo list) public and invite beta testers to post there.
Anyway, thanks for playing Eerie, hopefully you've got another playthrough left in you when I get a new version ready

Oooh, a new version? This is something I'll be looking forward to, along with VFIII someday ;D. I'm also considering going back and trying out the dungeons in minimal gear. I feel fairly confident I could take those dungeons on in leather/chain to be perfectly honest, maybe with a mix of Iron thrown in there.

Interesting to see how it goes with iron armor and maybe low level enchants. I'm thinking of 86ing all the diamond ore for a mix of iron and coal with a sprinkling of gold ore. Then make it so you only get diamond gear in rare quantities in spider dens and dungeons. And the trading economy needs reworking. And the mobs need some attack buffs. ....and the 72 hour map turns into an ordeal.
It's a bug with the skulls dropped by mobs. If you mine the custom skulls from the cobblestone walls, the trades go through. I'm working on a fix. Thanks!

Hey Three_Two, just wanted to check in and say everything is looking great. I'm sure VFIII is going to be the best one yet. In the meantime I might try my hand out at the Jam session map. I don't mind playing like superman every once and a while.

As long as you have a pick you'll be fine. Just keep running...

That's great TJ! I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on it.
Hey, made a new map. It's in open beta currently. Give it a try, tell me what you think. You can also get the 72 hour Jam version here but, I don't recommend it.
VF-Mini: Eventide Trance: DownloadNEW! For MC v1.8 - v1.8.8
Eventide Trance was created in a 72 hour timespan* for the 7th CTM Strawberry Jam. The map is based on the idea of character progression in addition to vanilla Minecraft's gear-only progression. You must survive an open-world where you'll be able to attack strange obelisks full of enemies in order to gain permanent health upgrades. When you feel strong enough, there are 3 dungeons containing the music discs needed to complete the jukebox monument. Good luck!
*The map has been updated for open beta since the Jam version was released.
How did he make the basic island generation? Looks like some sort of thing generated naturally, but I've no idea how he could've done it without using mcedit or worldedit or whatever. Sorry if this is a dupe post

The island generation is ripped from an old (OLD OLD OLD) modded terrain generator. I picked a piece of terrain I thought would work and then swapped a bunch of blocks and added my own layers and procedural decorations. Most of the overworld and the sphere designs were done as quickly as possible so I could get to the command blocks, dungeon layouts and mechanics.
Also (unrelated to quoted post) I have released beta version 0.1.13!
I think this version is pretty much a release candidate as I'm not getting any feedback but, having played the beta several times myself,I think it plays just about how I want it.
Hey, three_two! Don't mean to make this question intrusive or anything, but can we expect VFIII to be close to completion or done by early 2016? Just a little question.
Also, I loved Eventide Trance. The terrain, man. IT'S AWESOME!

Where is this map? I looked around and couldn't find it.
I like minecraft.
It's here http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/maps/maps-discussion/2311800-strawberry-jam-v3-a-ctm-map-building-jam-jam-7?comment=794 but, I highly recommend waiting until I get an updated version out on the VF thread. The Jam version has some major balance issues as well as a few other bugs. Jam version is definitely playable but, you'll basically play as superman.
Ok awesome. I didn't see your name on the front page anywhere, so I didn't see it. Thanks.

Uh, in case you didn't realize this, the Nomad Skull Collector's trades don't work. I couldn't get the golden applez
Sorry if this is a repeat, but... it was annoying for me. Loved the map otherwise!
I don't care about the Xs. You can call me Navarog. Or Nava if you really want to be a hipster. It's fine.

Eventide Trance beta v0.1.12 is out. Small but major error with the world loader:
derp
Un-derped
What's the difference between v0.1.12 and the Jam version (besides the polishing)?
And what's your progress on VFIII?
