This map is to my knowledge the first of its kind. Yes, it has practically everything other CTM maps use. The difference is that ore is your dungeon reward and your monument material--you get only one stack of each ore (except lapis, that one's intentionally extremely difficult) and need to keep at least two to complete the Sample Rack. (Except lapis again, you only need one and it's optional.)
You have wandered in the desert for days, fleeing from the police (You never dyed that wool! You were framed!) at last finding a strange series of mountains and structures. You take shelter in an odd wooden house, where you find reference to some kind of "sample rack..." or at least that's what the last person to find it thought it was. After all it IS right next to an ancient tomb...it could have some kind of arcane power.

Rules! There aren't too many.
1. DO NOT play on peaceful!
2. Don't go into the endless, featureless desert. There's nothing there, really. I suppose that you could farm sand... not that you could run out...
3. No mods except ones that don't affect gameplay more than inventory tweaks (i.e convenientinventory)
That's all. You can break blocks, place blocks, whatever. I honestly do not care what you do as long as you don't break the above rules.
Good day - I'm just wrapping things up with map and wanted to sound off. This is a nice little concept here, placing ores rather than the actual blocks, keeping them limited and having a smaller than normal rack to place them on (I believe someone referred to these as 'snack sized CTMs' :laugh.gif:). All the areas are lit up and looted, this was a fun little adventure, thanks!
Ye olde sample racke and highlights (no bonus):
Peeked into the coal and gold areas, didn't want to continue with only wood tools. Spent some time at the oasis getting everything stone and a good supply of wood/charcoal.
Iron area went a lot easier than expected. Not much threat that couldn't be quickly neutralized by sticking to the high ground.
In the nether fortress area, I sure did 'fall for it' - wasn't even paying attention or expecting anything...was so obvious too. *facepalm*
Was thinking of 3 ways to get the lapis block:
[-]Silk touch enchantment (I wasn't lucky enough to get)
[-]Pistons (I pushed it to the ceiling, but couldn't maneuver any farther. I never saw 1 regular slime to make a sticky either. :sad.gif:
[-]Move the entire monument to the lapis block (though felt this may have been bending the rules a bit too much - even though it doesn't appear to be breaking them.

Thank you for the feedback! I intend to make at least one more like this, maybe more.

The intended way is silk touch. If someone finds a slime chunk and digs a deep enough hole, more power to them. Technically moving the monument is not cheating... but that's even more work.
I played this map not too long ago and i very well enjoyed it. Actually, it wa up there with one of my favorite maps, and i would LOVE to see more. Just thought I'd tell ya.

I'm sorry I couldn't reply to this earlier. The upgrade apparently unsubscribed me from all threads so I never got the notification that anyone had replied
Thank you for the kind words! This sort of map is indeed going to be made into a series. If you're interested, I'm making updates at planetfall666.blogspot.com, and in fact I just put up the first one tonight before coming here.
Review Summary:
A 'Complete the Monument' map, set in the desert, where ores are both your survival resources and your goal. I enjoyed that the dungeons were not easily penetrable except through the main entrance, and you were constrained to the progression of the ores.
I played...
Minecraft Ver: 1.2.4
Mode: Multiplayer
Difficulty: Normal
Texture Pack: default
Mods Used: none
Right off the bat, I'm going to note that we did not finish, although I did find out where we need to go to get all of the ores.
From a survival aspect, the starting location has plenty of wood and light. It's fairly easy to find some of the hidden chests and establish a survival base, but you will be limited to wood and some stone.
Now on to the 'dungeons'. This is definitely the fun part. You need to penetrate them in order to get your ores. But they're usually surrounded in bedrock or obsidian, so you can't hack into them from the tops, bottoms, or sides. (We tried after being killed over and over with head-on assaults).
I don't really have any other feedback, but I will say this... I am thinking about replaying this map single player to see if I can find creative ways to get past the mobs.
Creativity: Unique theme. Utilizes Minecraft functions. Use of rules. Clever creations.
1 = below average

4 = astounding!
Detail: Visual decor/detail. Consistency. Realism and/or appropriate to theme.

Story: Overall effort and duration. Engaging. Consistent. Character motivation. Dialogue/Narration.

Difficulty (on Easy): Puzzles. Mob/risk density and variety. Lighting. Hidden items/challenges.
1 = Impossibly hard, may not be able to see the whole adventure.
2 = Too easy
3 = Challenging, puzzles -OR- mobs are well planned.
4 = Challenging, puzzles -AND- mobs are well planned.
Progression: Pacing of scenes. Pacing of score, gear, loot. Experience builds or arcs. Clear delineation between "in character" and "out of character" notes/signs.
1 = below average; uneven or no progression

Well I actually attacked the Fire Dungeon from the side as I couldn't figure out a way to attack it directly. & I'm pretty sure I could use the same tactic on the Nether Fortress but it was easy enough to walkway around that place
I specially liked the final dungeon seeing as it was so small but so hard.........wait a minute...... [for the record, I blame the internet]
But I honestly don't understand how you can give 2 on a story. There is no story on a CTM map. That's part of the appeal of the genre.
I think for CTM or Survival maps you should disregard the story rating & just proportionate the score to 20.
For example, disregarding the story, the map gets 11 out of 16 so proportionately that makes 13.75 out of 20. But then you'd have to deal with decimal fractions which I personally dislike so.......

For Survival, my current thinking is...
1 - attempt at story is bad.
2 - no story
3 - story elements exist
4 - story is really good!
Also, rsmalec, if it makes you feel any better the next one will have a storyline. I can't guarantee it will be the greatest story ever, but there will be one.

Want some achievements for your sig?
Notice: This map is difficult (admittedly, a lot of CTM maps are) so expect to die at least once, and probably multiple times.
Thank you. It's not my first map, I also made Eldmorang Alpha (see signature) which is MUCH different.
Here's Episode 1
Do note that this is my very first CTM map so I might take it slowly at first :smile.gif:

Then I think you should mention that in your Rating Definitions, just to clear things up for everyone
