News:
I have started my developer commentary with the Grab Bag Challenge. The first video in the series is here:
In case you haven't heard, Vechs has made an amazing set of maps called the Super Hostile series. However, for those who like a challenge but don't like fighting mobs, these maps are frustrating because Peaceful difficulty is considered cheating.
I present a collection of CTM maps designed to be played on Peaceful difficulty.
I may be making some more maps in the future, so please leave comments and suggestions on this forum post as to how I can improve the maps. Also, feel free to do an LP and post it here so I can add it to this post.
WARNING: Because of the nature of these maps, the difficulty (and therefore the fun) of completing them is inversely proportional to the previous knowledge you have of them. This means the more spoilers you see, the less difficult they become (even more so than Vechs' maps). I am NOT responsible for you ruining your own fun by clicking the spoiler tags on any posts on this thread (except the pictures in this post only).

Peaceful CTM #01: The Grab Bag Challenge v 1.2
Type: Linear-Branching
Difficulty: Hard
This map only has 8 wools instead of the normal 16 because when I was working on 9+, my hard drive got corrupted and I lost everything except what I had backup up online. At this time, I am not planning on adding any more to this map beyond what is already here.
I only have pictures of the intersections to avoid too many spoilers.
Intersection 1:
Intersection 2:
Intersection 3:
Changelog: (may contain minor spoilers)
12-25-11 (v 1.2):
- added GrassGiant to LP Monument
- fixed traps in Frozen Box of Fun
- fixed chandelier in I1
11-21-11 (v 1.1):
- fixed non-decaying leaves in I1
- moved wool chest in Lava Islands
- changed chandelier in I1
- fixed bonus chest in Twisted Caverns
Be careful out there. The barren snowy wasteland has claimed more than a few lives with the frigid air and lack of renewable resources. You will have to fight for every piece of scrap you can find lying around, so don't dawdle and most importantly don't waste those precious resources. Those who are foolish enough to do so won't last long.
This map has a different kind of monument. Instead of placing wool in a line on a monument, you will be placing wool in a mural in paint-by-numbers style. When you find a wool chest, there will be a number on a sign next to it. This is the number which corresponds to the color to be placed on the mural. Also, inside the chest the wool will be arranged such that each stack has the exact number of that color wool needed for the mural.

For those who saw my WIP thread, I decided to make a new thread for the actual release of the map. This thread will contain all the information about my maps from here on.
I always disliked playing on Easy+ because I get scared incredibly easily and when I see mobs I tend to instinctively start shaking, my mouse flies about and all types of hell breaks loose.
I hope this is a good CTM map though. I played another Peaceful CTM map but it wasn't very good.
If you actually took yourself seriously while doing this, you deserve a lot of credit.

Downloading now.
This is exactly the reason why I wanted to make a CTM map that can be played on Peaceful. My girlfriend hates fighting mobs but loves the traps and scenery in the Super Hostile series, so I strove to emulate the same kind of difficulty and dickery without the use of mobs and spawners.
It was pretty good. A lot of the traps were clever, and the size of the map was nice. Not too big, not too small. The beginning was also much better (with the prison)
However... (don't be reluctant to read, this isn't a bad thing)
Whatever wool was in the Frozen Box of Fun got wiped from existence. I don't even know how you did that. At the beginning, I destroyed a pressure plate, and the line of TNT almost killed me. So I decided to build a bridge over the "minefield". At one point, when I was almost at the wool, I placed a block THAT WASN'T EVEN CLOSE ENOUGH TO LAND TO UPDATE ANYTHING, and the second line of TNT fell and destroyed the wool. How the heck did you make that?
Anyways, this is a nice, solid map, and I'm glad someone's making a peaceful CTM for those who don't like playing with mobs. Nice job.

You didn't destroy the wool. The contents of that chest were:
a stick.
The way I did both of those tricks was through the use of a Tarzan Trigger (invisible vines which, when updated, disappear, sending a signal through midair).
Well, I downloaded it and I am legitimately impressed. I'm amazed that someone made a CTM map like this that actually look it seriously. Even Vechs went a bit too childish in Hills of Moo.
I'm only testing the map out, so i've been using SPC to do it quicker, but I will do a legit playthrough later.
I would do an LP, but I can't.
Also, god damn I don't know why I got scared in the first cave area >_<
The lava pissed me off since it took me a while to place down the Sandstone to block it off.
I like the Hallelujah Monument xD I'm sad you only got the map half-done, I can't wait for more.
See people, THIS is what a balanced Peaceful CTM map is supposed to be :happy.gif:

You saw Zap's trap? I hate him now...
Here's a idea I always theorized about, but since i don't have MCEdit, haven't done.
(BTW, I named the area "If You Want To Get Out Alive...")
If it's normal CTM, have creeper spawners everywhere, along with skeles. Make it so you must sprint through a line line of passageways to get to the wool box. Get it's contents, then somehow run back. Basic, but fun and not yet done. Another is to have same thing, minus the spawners. Make going into the wool chest require updating sand to cause redstone destruction. This would set off TNT at several strategic places at timed interverls, to annoy/kill the player. It would also TNT open a way to the next intersection. There's also my (less) detectable trap idea of 3 deep floating sand, with the trigger sand having a air space, then sand. In this diagram:
That way they can dig a bit and feel safe, but still trigger.

Thank you again. :smile.gif: I am not planning on adding anything more to the first map except to update it if someone finds something broken or something. But I may make more maps similar to it.

Oh. Time to restart the map. (I deleted the old one thinking that I lost...)
Oh. Also, I have an idea for a second map that I was going to give to Vechs but . . .
Basically it's an arctic/snow themed map, but it takes place in one of those ski lodge places. There's a wood log cabin house with the monument inside it, and there's different areas like an ice rink with an underwater portion, a huge pine forest, a huge ski slope and an icy cave.
Thanks. I just watched it, and it looks good. Looks like you're having a bit of trouble with the first room, though. And to think, it only gets harder from there... :wink.gif:
Anywho, I look forward to seeing the rest of the series. I'll add you to the OP.

I'll try and beat it and post screenshots later. Probably on Sunday, or next week. My weekends very busy XD
Of course since I beta tested, I might lose some of the fun from traps XD
Here's to you!
Technically exists.
