I'd love to see some reviews and let's plays of this map! However, since the map has over 240 hours put into it and so much content to discover, I request that you accomplish the following goals to really experience what this map has to offer before writing a review of it:
1: Find Fort Forgotten
2: Beat at least the first 3 out of 10 stages of The Nethertorium
3: Beat at least the first 3 out of 15 floors of The Grim Tree (Will require 2 players on a multiplayer server to fully beat)
4: Beat at least the first 3 out of 15 challenges of the parkour course
5: Beat at least the first 1 out of 4 floors of The Forgotten Facility (Will require 4 players on a multiplayer server to fully beat)
6: Beat at least 1 out of 5 floors of The Great Rhombus
7: Collect at least the first 2 out of 15 artifacts of The Ruins of Ouroboros
8: Collect at least 2 out of 5 colored wools in S.O.M.E.T.H.I.N.G. on The Isle of Something
Most importantly, have fun!

Rules
1: Always play on hard, not peaceful/easy/normal.
2: Don't use add-ons such as fly mods, x-ray mods, etc. If you're already adding mods that add new items to the game, like weapons and armor from the Aether, don't use any of those.
3: The giant obsidian walls, as of TGA 1.0, no longer mark a definite boundary. You can choose to continue playing inside the boundary, but if you do, you'll be missing out on some mind-blowing custom terrain outside of it, which caused the change from THFFF to TGA.
4: If you think something you're about to do might be considered cheating, then don't do it.
5: Once you find Fort _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, beat the Nethertorium, conquer The Grim Tree, complete The Forgotten Facility, finish S.O.M.E.T.H.I.N.G on The Isle of Something, discover all 60 :3 signs along The Bridge People No Longer Cross, find all 15 artifacts in The Ruins of Ouroboros, finish The 25k Walkway and raid all 21 chests of The Great Rhombus, (If you're in single player, you may exclude completing The Grim Tree, and the second, third and fourth floors of The Forgotten Facility), you've won. Now your only goal is to find all the secrets, like the shipment crates, easter eggs and seven names. Since you've already won, feel free to disregard all of the above rules and cheat as much as you want.
Goals
There are five different "forts" on this map. They're abandoned buildings of various designs. The main goal for this map is to find the fifth fort. You'll know it's the right one when you've found it. Once you've found it, you've essentially "beaten" the map, but why stop there? If you want to go for 100% completion, try finding every single secret this map has to offer. To keep track of how much of the map you've completed, here's this, which can also be found in the Spawn Camp (The building you spawn in):
Names found: 0/7
Sandbox found: 0/1
Minor forts found: 0/4
Easter eggs found: 0/15
Hermit's hideout found: 0/1
Shipment crates found: 0/15
Fort _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ found: 0/1
Nethertorium stages reached: 0/10
Munitions storage top floor reached: 0/1
Fort _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _'s old emblem found: 0/1
Earned a pat on the back: 0/1
About the map
The screenshots provided in the album really sum up most things about the map. As you've probably already guessed from the screenshots, this map is geared toward advanced players with at least a few months of Minecraft experience under their belt, as it would be difficult for a brand new player to survive in this world. The majority of the gameplay is intended to take place in a harsh, desert environment where your only company is a sea of lava, hordes of hostile enemies and several abandoned buildings.
Don't worry about dying early on with your only saplings from the single tree at spawn; even if you lose everything, there are several "shipment crates," among many other assorted chests, which will provide you with over fifty different resources. Because of this, one unlucky death shouldn't spell Game Over for you. As for where the rest of the fun is meant to take place, let's just say I didn't let the Nether go to waste in this map. By using one of the two Nether portals which already exist on the map, you're guaranteed to be taken either directly to or close to the Nethertorium. More information on that can be found under the "Spoilers" section of this post.
Story
The year is 30xx. You are [7th name not yet found!], a respected man/woman of relatively high status in the military of Earth's most powerful nation. You've been given a special mission: to gear up, head into a device which mimics wormholes, (They call it a "portal"), and find out what happened to the last team of men and women who were sent through. Considering they were sent into the portal about a year ago and haven't once established contact with planet Earth, you're a bit wary, but you have no choice. Orders are orders. Taking a deep breath, you head through an unearthly purple haze lingering inside a rigid, black frame of some sort, hoping you come out the other side in one piece.
You arrive disoriented but unharmed inside a small, cramped building on an arid plateau overlooking a sea of lava. Needless to say, you're overwhelmed by this unusual terrain, but you've got a job to do. After a minute or two of wandering around, you discover three things: this building was almost certainly constructed by the men and women who were sent through the portal, this building has been abandoned for quite some time and according to the high-tech, scientific tools you were given before beginning your mission, (A watch and compass), this planet appears to have an oxygen-rich atmosphere. It should be safe to take off your pressurized suit. (Pumpkin helmet.) Though you no longer have any use for these three items, you should probably hang onto them; they're unbelievably expensive to produce, given only to the military's most trusted and talented individuals.
Suddenly, you stumble across a wild, direct download link, added to this thread as per the new forum rules! http://adf.ly/go/d9f...mUhXzEuMTcuemlw
With these observations under your belt, you head off on your adventure to discover what happened to the people who once tried making a living in this unforgiving environment.
Spoilers
Let me begin by saying: I don't think anyone will be able to beat it legitimately. By using commands that make you invincible or overpowered weapons and armor from the Aether? Sure, sure. But not without cheating.
How to get to it: I'm fairly certain that you can make an obsidian portal anywhere on the map, walk through it and end up within one or two hundred blocks of the Nethertorium, but you might get lost trying to find it, so that's inadvisable. Instead, I recommend beating the map, as one of the two portals leading to the Nethertorium is found inside the largest room of Fort _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. The second portal is found not too far away- about one hundred blocks- at a very low elevation, across from a very small island in the sea of lava. Based on its location, you're pretty much guaranteed to find the portal inside Fort _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ before you find the second portal, out in the open.
What it is & how it works: After several releases of this map were distributed to friends and on anonymous messaging boards, one of the most common suggestions was, "Aside from exploring, there isn't much else to do; add some more stuff that gives us something to do besides explore, like a challenge that DOESN'T revolve around exploring." That's where the Nethertorium comes in.
The Nethertorium is one very large building spanning only about twenty to thirty blocks in width, maybe some thirty to forty blocks in height, but several hundreds of blocks long. It consists of about ten chambers, and aside from the last ones with rewards in them, all the others feature progressively more difficult fights. Stage 1 starts with the player entering the room by pressing a button on a wall in a narrow hallway, which temporarily "opens" a nearby door made out of lava. The player rushes through and finds the door slowly sealing itself off behind them, encouraging them to keep moving forward to win, not to try and run back and give up. The room will be filled with Endermen and, as an added bonus, possibly ghasts, as ghasts have a chance of potentially spawning in every room, thanks to the Nethertorium being in... Well, the Nether. Same goes for zombie pigmen.
A sign will immediately point the player to their left, where they'll find a button. Once pressed, it will start a 60-65 second timer. During this 60-65 seconds, the lava door on the opposite side of the room will remain closed, and the player is forced to survive in this room filled with these enemies for 60-65 seconds. Once that time has passed, the hidden redstone circuit will finish doing its thing and the player will be able to move through the lava door while it's open for a few seconds. The player will now be in a small hallway where they're welcome to take a break and recover their health before moving on to the next stage and repeating this process until they beat the entire Nethertorium.
For those of you who haven't yet found or reached the Nethertorium and are still curious about it after reading this: there are about ten stages of enemies. In each stage, you will fight wave after wave of one, specific type of enemy for a little over 60 seconds. Each stage is designed to be harder than the last. You think a room full of creepers is the final stage, the most difficult fight? Nope. That's only stage 6.
Good luck in there.
Oh, and if you're wondering about whether or not it's really worth it, click the following two pictures to see some, not all, of the rewards you'll be given for completing the Nethertorium: http://i.imgur.com/jzaLR.png http://i.imgur.com/0EinI.png

Black Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Self-explanatory because of the darkness and bedrock. Like an extra stage or bonus area after you've beaten a game.
Blue Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Because it's so lonely in there. And over there. And up there. Either squint really hard or light up every dark area you see.
Brown Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: It turned brown from sleeping in dirt all day and all night. The trick is just finding the dirt. It'll be out in the open, up high.
Cyan Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: If blue is loneliness and green is cacti, cyan must be the world's loneliest cactus. You'll find it near the metagame.
Gray Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Honestly, I miss the clouds that used to hang out at this elevation. Fittingly, there's an exposed skeleton spawner nearby.
Green Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Some say one of the hermit's attack was so brutal, all but the toughest cacti refused to grow there from that day forward.
Light Blue Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: The closest one to the ice. That's gotta be the strongest sign to support all that weight. Just look up once in awhile.
Lime Easter Egg: x=599 y=85 z=132 (Spoiled by: Lord_Dust_Bunny!) Hint: If you lived barely two or three blocks away from a zombie spawner and underneath sand, you'd have skin problems too.
Magenta Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: What two colors do you combine to get Magenta right in the middle, between them? Hope you wrote those two down.
Orange Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Doesn't get much hotter than that. Like magenta, this one isn't particularly fair. Mid-elevation, inside the narrow tower.
Pink Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Who *wouldn't* be embarrassed if they were caught taking a bath? Video game secrets are often hidden behind waterfalls.
Purple Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: Portals tend to have that effect on things. Having trouble with white? It's found in the same way as purple.
Red Easter Egg: "No coordinates, they would be useless anyway. - Lord_Dust_Bunny" Hint: By far the easiest to find. By far the hardest to reach. Do you have what it takes to get to it without cheating? As hot as it gets.
White Easter Egg: Not yet found! Hint: They really are one of the kindest things you can give a person. Forgiveness is a wonderful thing.
Yellow Easter Egg: x=764 y=105 z=-214 (Spoiled by: Lord_Dust_Bunny!) Hint: It was white when I first found it; it's spent too much time in the sun. Destroy some floating islands if you've got the guts.

The World
Oxygen: Estimated 30%
Other trace elements: Estimated 5%
When people speak of this world, one of the first things that comes to mind is what most people refer to as, "the effect." The effect is a slow, almost unnoticeable process which seems to affect every living being which spends extended periods of time there. In short, it is the degradation of one's memory, both short and long term. Typically, symptoms don't begin to display until four to six weeks into one's stay on the planet. While this has proved a vital piece of information which should lead to much more successful, albeit shorter studies of this planet, it's important for any interested researchers to note that the damage to one's memory seems to be irreparable. As such, no researcher is permitted to stay on the world for more than three total weeks, and no more than seven consecutive days without returning home for a minimum three day rest.
The Hermit
Age: 57
Profile: A wild and eccentric man, he was once considered one of the military's finest. Whether leading a charge on the front lines of a battle or coordinating attacks from the safety of a faraway bunker, his expertise couldn't be matched. However, his moments of brilliance came with a price. While the results of his unorthodox tactics had proved again and again that he knew what he was doing, a lifetime of outrageous commands such as, "[1st name not yet found!], I want you up on that hill, pelting [our enemies] with this carton of eggs!" finally caught up to him one day. At the age of 56, he was deemed legally senile and was to be retired- against his will, of course.
True to the way he waged wars, he wasn't going down without a fight. Desperate for any mission he could undertake to prove his worth, (And sanity), he jumped at the chance to test a device which could, in theory, send a man to another world. Out of all the men and women who were selected to participate in this potential suicide mission, he was the only one who had volunteered for it. And, boy, was he glad he did. He'd never had this much fun in his entire life. Scaling cliffs, helping construct outposts, fighting off swarms of alien creatures, (Creepers, endermen, etc.), this was the life he felt he was meant to live.
This, like all other dreams, was one which couldn't go on forever. It was only a matter of time before the effect set in. Joking thoughts of, "I wonder if I could take on [2nd name not yet found!] in a fight" gradually turned to, "... Who is that person, and why haven't I killed them yet?" And one day, he was gone. Under normal circumstances, one of the two captains meant to lead this expedition on an alien planet simply disappearing into thin air in the middle of the night would have caused an uproar. By now, however, the effect had already begun to affect everyone, and because of this, no one even remembered he existed.
The next time [5th name not yet found!] met with his platoon, despite having spent years with many of these people, even decades getting to know a few of them, he recognized none of them, nor did they recognize him. Immediately, both sides saw the other as an enemy. "Who the hell's that old man?" "I dunno, I don't remember hearing about any reports of some crazy, old hermit living out here by himself." "... Should we kill him or just stick with delivering these goods and hope he doesn't attack us?" While these few men were busy talking amongst themselves, [5th name not yet found!], with no one to confer with but the voices in his head, had made up his mind. Being the man he was, he chose to attack.
After the fight was over, [5th name not yet found!] was heard mumbling to himself by one half-conscious man, "Some crazy, old hermit, am I..? Fine. I can't remember my real name anyway. Thanks fer savin' me the trouble of comin' up with one myself." With that, the newly named "hermit" took the crate as spoils and headed back to the new home he'd begun to make for himself, carved into a tower of stone.
F.A.Q./Concerns
"Can this map be used as a spawn location for my multiplayer server, or a friend's multiplayer server?"
Absolutely! Just download the map, unzip it, rename the folder to "world" without the quotes, then place that "world" folder where it's supposed to go for your SMP server!

A let's play of the map as it was in June, 2012 (More content added since then!):
PvP Arenas! [Collection][Multi][PvP]
Below are a selection of three different kinds of areas to download- the kinds under the "Deathmatch Arenas" section are PvP areas which I consider ready to be downloaded, added to your multiplayer server and played on. The recommended playstyle is to just kill everyone in sight on these maps; teams are optional. The types of areas under the other Arenas section are intended for team-oriented gameplay which revolves around either collecting the opposing team's flag or remaining on top of a hill long enough to gather more wool than the other team. Finally, the kinds of areas under the "Canvases" section are something you map makers should enjoy, as these are intentionally incomplete areas. I encourage map makers to download canvases for the sole purpose of adding onto them to give them your own, creative twist!
Please note that, despite being named "arenas," most of these will look nothing like your typical arena, the aptly named "Redundant v1" aside! I just call them that or "PvP areas" due to "maps" having several different meanings in Minecraft, while the word "arenas" is pretty straight-forward. That said, here are the arenas and canvases I've made! Once you've had a look at them, please post below telling me what you think!

Update Log!
Planned updates:
Oh, I dunno, maybe get around to making more arenas.
Planned possible updates:
None.
Planned updates will almost certainly be carried out at some point. Planned possible ones require input from people using these arenas/canvases so I know whether or not you guys think it'll be a good idea or a bad one. If too many people think an idea'll be a bad one and there's solid reasoning behind why they feel that way, chances are, I won't implement such an idea.
-------------------------
10/31 6:45 A.M: Added a section for CTF/KotH maps, Abandoned (CTF) and Abandoned (KotH).
6/13, 4:00 P.M: Added Redundant v1, v2 and v3.
6/4, 1:45 P.M: Updated Narrow v2 to feel less like a canvas, giving it considerably more variety than before, updated all of the screenshots of it accordingly, ADDED THE UPDATE LOG TO THIS POST.
-------------------------
F.A.Q./Concerns
"How are we supposed to play KotH when there's no reliable way of keeping track of how long each team has been on top of the hill?"
That's where the wool on top of the hill comes in. The team who's been up there the longest is assumed to be the team who collects the most wool from the top of the mountain and brings it back down to the chest in their base. The round ends once all the wool has been collected from the top of the hill. Whichever team has the most wool is the winner. Since there are 51 pieces of wool on each KotH map, it should be impossible for a round to result in a draw.
"Wait, why is one map in both the "Arenas" and "Canvases" sections? Shouldn't it just be in one or the other?"
Some PvP areas may be listed under both the "Arenas" and "Canvases" sections due to being "blank" enough to be considered a canvas, but still fulfilling a solid enough role as an area to provide PvP battles that it could be considered a complete arena, too.
Please note, all times listed- 4:30 A.M, 1:30 P.M, etc- are central time. If you need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask! Users who enjoyed these areas may also enjoy this transparent/x-ray/wireframe/wallhack texture pack!

About the map
The screenshot below the download link is taken right at spawn and really defines the entire map. It's split just about evenly into 50% woodland areas and 50% desert areas, both of which have a distinct, unnatural feel to them that you just can't find in vanilla Minecraft. In-between the two, you've also got plenty of water to spare, ranging from ponds like the one in the center of the picture to large, open lakes as far as the eye can see in all directions.
If you're a fan of floating islands, arches or overhangs, great news: you don't have to explore far from spawn before you find just what you're looking for. This map has them in abundance, as you'll see for yourself in-game, or may have already seen in the screenshots. If you're wondering about the title of the map, it doesn't have any special meaning; since I was busy spawning many worlds with many different BTM/PTM settings, I didn't take the time to give any of the worlds I generated proper names.

About the map
The screenshots provided in the album really sum up most things about the map. Due to how huge this one is compared to the others I've released- I did spend around 4, maybe 4 and a half hours flying around just generating terrain- I did a couple of new things with this world. 1: I hid two chests filled with various helpful items. 2: You should spawn with a workbench, wooden pickaxe, wooden axe, compass and map. This is due to how much more difficult it is to survive on this map compared to my others, though I may end up starting players off with that same setup on future maps as I feel it doesn't have too huge an effect on gameplay.
There are no rules. Recommended difficulty setting is Hard, but you're more than welcome to play on anything you want, even Peaceful. Also, I hope you like worlds filled with snow and ice, because that sums up this one. You won't find any deserts, forests, lakes, hills or anything normal. Just massive cliffs and a frozen ocean. I hope you can do without normal trees and birch trees. About the name, it doesn't have any special meaning; it literally is the 99th world I've spawned over the past few days while trying to get these settings just right. If I'd gotten it right a few tries sooner or later, it would've been named something like New World97 or NewWorld104 instead.

About the map
I feel like this one captures damn near everything in all of these maps put together. It's got lava in abundance, towering plateaus, snow, small deserts, pine trees all around and the ocean is frozen. To top it all off, if I recall correctly, this one's unique in that it's the only one where you can walk around a forest, a beach or the frozen ocean and see slimes spawning around you. Slimes spawning around you in the middle of a forest- I've never even heard of someone with a map that can make that same claim. Best of all, since it's perfectly natural and unmodded, the map should continue spawning slimes in the middle of these open areas forever.

About the map
A short and simple description? This is The Hunt For Fort _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ with only two differences. 1: Only 1% as many changes to the environment. (No player-made buildings, storyline, etc, etc.) 2: I didn't spend hours converting the ocean of water into an ocean of lava. The funny part about the ocean here compared to TGA: On TGA, those bedrock blocks sticking out of the lava are a genuine life-saver, not just for the player, but also the player's items if they die. On THIS map, they're the exact opposite! If you try jumping down into the water but land on a piece of bedrock that's too high up, you're dead!

Everyone - Should I use one of the other 19 pictures in the album as the preview picture in the first post? If so, which one should I use? From top-left to bottom-right, let's consider them #1 to #20 for voting purposes!

Haha.. I fell into lava while mining... i was at H _ _ _ _ _'_ H... and it glitched... i explored the map alot and seems pretty great... cant wait until someone does a video of it (Thats something i can do!)
I had a loook.. i reckon you should have the one with the creepers
Gives it a much more surprising thing to expect
Jay - Ahh, I'm sorry to hear that; hope you didn't lose too much! Also, I'd *love* to watch any video you make of it. I'd even be sure to post a link to it in the first post, unless you'd prefer that I didn't!

From top-left to bottom-right, let's consider them #1 to #20 for voting purposes. Also, once you start finding things that are hidden around the map, I encourage you to take a screenshot of them, write down their coordinates, and post where you found it on the map so I can credit you in the first post! Yes, I'm ENCOURAGING people to post spoilers! Finally, what I'd love most of all is to see a Let's Play of this map. If your computer can handle it, why not record yourself playing? I'll be sure to post a link to your video in the first post, unless you'd prefer that I didn't!
Edit, Jay again - Sounds good! Coming in with 100% of the votes, the creeper picture will be the new preview picture!
Edit - Heh, for a second there, I thought you found the real thing; my jaw was about to drop at how quickly you found it! That's one of the most difficult things to find on the entire map, on par with the difficulty of finding the easter eggs. As a matter of fact, that location used to be the home of the red easter egg; the signs in that location provide the full explanation. And thanks for your kind words!
Make sure to record it or even put it on a livestream. Please do either of those.
Terror - Thank you very much! If any of you would like to film your crazy shenanigans, I'd love to watch! I'll even be sure to post a link to your video in the first post, unless you'd prefer that I didn't!
