You are the new commander of a redstone mining outpost on the planet Eldmorang Alpha, in an alternate universe in which creepers didn't settle on Earth. You are replacing the last commander who accidentally killed himself. The instant you start your new job the drill fails, the seal to the control room explodes, all life signs except yourself vanish, and the world will be forever changed.

Map Rules
1. Play on easy.
2. Don't place and remove blocks. Exceptions are detailed in the readme.
3. You can craft stuff, just not redstone torches or TNT.
4. No flymods or inventory editors.
5. Have fun.
6. Glowstone dust is your score.
7. This map is not compatible with SMP, but since it's fairly short it wouldn't really be worth setting up a server anyway.
:mossystone:Make sure you use the included texture pack, or stuff will look real weird.
Thanks and to rsmalec for this review! Keep in mind, the "too easy" rating in difficulty was before I added combat to the map, so actual difficulty may be higher than you expect.
Review Summary:
A good map with a scifi theme. Fairly straight-forward series of puzzles that were implemented nicely into the story. I enjoyed the use of specific blocks as ifferent 'triggers'
I played...
Minecraft Ver: 1.8.1
Mode: Single player
Difficulty: Peaceful
Texture Pack: default
Mods Used: none
My Total Playtime: 1 hour, 15 min
My Final Score: 30 glowstone blocks, plus 1 powder
You seem to have left super pick axe (or the equivalent) turned on when you uploaded the map.
I deleted spc.settings file to reset everything before playing.
Edit: Oh... DUH. I was COMPLETELY wrong. You didn't leave super pick axe on. You left us in creative mode!

I feel stupid now. I'll try to have it fixed this morning.

LOL - "don't ask your friend to say 'break iron' "
How will ender pearls help me escape from a hole...?
I like that they say "P F 666"!!
You left super-pickaxe on (not sure what else, so I did a reset). I found this by punching the lever for 'power to mining drill'
It seems to have destroyed this iron wall somehow (I missed it while looking the other way). I don't see anything that looks like a drill, tho
Is this sticky piston, lava, gravel what you said you were fixing? I'm not really sure why there would be lava inside the base? Ah yes, the pistons should start extended, not retracted. And I think they went too fast because they broke the gravel. But I see how the "ooc narration" sign disappeared.
Your diamond block seems to be an unlimited stack.
Oh... DUH. I was COMPLETELY wrong. You didn't leave super pick axe on. You left us in creative mode!
I like the idea of the circuit repair. Which way am I supposed to go first?
why would the old reactor room need to be 'filled in'. I think I missed something.
(went down to space-time reactor)
iron bars open unto lava
Going to assume I'm allowed to place these ladders under the coolant duct access
(about to head down corridor in water)
(restarting my game, as the switch from creative to survival screwed up my inventory)
This time around I saw the iron wall explode. That was well controlled. It didn't take out the surrounding wall or the redstone torch. I'm curious how you controlled that.
Heading to the launch pad (since I only opened one door this time)
I see a ship on a launch platform, but can't quite make it out because these windows are low. I can only see the thrusters.
Inside the ship are two seats with chests under them. Looks good, like they're vertical.
When I broke the fuel regulator circuit (black wool), it fell back behind the block. I was trying to figure out how to get it when an explosion occurred. I see two glowstone in the hole, so I assume a chest got detroyed. Jumping down, I'm in the crater below the ship, but it's ok. There's a hole in the glass now so I can get back in. Curious how you got another precise TNT explosion.
Now I'm carrying some redstone torches and signs (debrii from explosion)
Going to try the geothermal power station next. Not sure if it matters what order we do these in? (I like that I have a choice.
Are those iron blocks a pipe?
Not sure what this train track is for yet.
"Jigarbov ripoff" heh
Not sure what to do here. I see one button, but can't get thru the door and nothing seems to be happening. Going back to central hub to use my 'tweezers' and move the black wool.
Trying the 'living area'
Not sure if it matters, but I took my lava back after the door opened.
When I took the black wool, I see another redstone torch drop. Must have triggered something fun but I don't see anything different.
Into the library now.
You could just put a glass tube over this walkway.
I'm not a fan of disconnected fence posts (on the diagonal).
I have 1 extra ladder now.
Stand on the top of the steps of the library, looking down at the base. Once 1.9 comes out you'll be able to jump up onto those blocks that the fence posts are on (my understanding) and then jump up onto your main base. So you may want to cover this up.
Opened time-space reactor, and the redstone ore moved too, even though I still have to go back and do the geothermal power station (right?).
The water cooling was cool - I know that taking away these redstone torches is doing something, but I don't know what. And flicking the "auxilliary coolant pump" doesn't seem to have done anything visible.
Ah. the lava is gone.
Not sure what the blue box reference is.
re-opening the geothermal power station with this last black wool
Nothing seems different in here...
Oh! Was this cart over here all along? I get it now!
What's the purpose of the button? Just so you can send the cart 5 blocks before you fall in lava? I just took the stuff out of the cart.
The crystal charger was pretty cool. I almost missed the diamond block on the ground tho.
So now I have one black wool and one diamond to go into that area that was previously blocked off by redstone ore.
Ah - perfect - your sign tells me what I should have. You might want to reword it something like, "don't proceed unless you have..."
Maybe add some hills/mountains to the netherrack planet? Looks a little plain when you go outside. If that's what you want it to look like, then ignore my comment. I have the same situation with my Mars Mission map.
Lava = drill. I like the concept of the drill anyway. Maybe there's a way to do it with gravel/sand that falls in a pattern to look like a swirl/drill bit.
Now what? Do I go down the bedrock stair?
Oh wow - that took a long time. I know you said to 'be patient' but I think other players will be down there and get kiled or go back into the base and get irritated.
I'll come back to the workbench - need to check this other passage first.
Lapis Lazuli generator reminds me of a Playdough Fun Factory. I like.
But I can't get out of this room without placing a block. I have some netherrack and iron from past explosions.
Ok - I think this 'odd sign' means they're coming after Earth? Some players may not understand the wording. But I think you made it intentionally odd.
There's no minecart here to get my stuff across the lava? Pretending there was, I notice that I'll have to hit a second button halfway across. WHy not just let it go all the way?
Not sure what the "Spaz" signs are...
Ah, ok - they're clearly coming to Earth now. So this is like a prequel to Minecraft :smile.gif:
And that's the end. Not really sure why we had to go into the nether for the end? I thought we were going to watch the Earth explode or something, but that's it.

Anything with an explosion resistance of 30 (iron blocks, stone, brick, etc.) will break a 3x3x3 cube with the TNT at the center and have no blast power left to break anything else
I see two glowstone in the hole, so I assume a chest got detroyed. Jumping down, I'm in the crater below the ship, but it's ok. There's a hole in the glass now so I can get back in. Curious how you got another precise TNT explosion.
No, that's from the glowstone block in the floor. The glass thing was originally an accident but I decided it would be a good idea to stay.
Going to try the geothermal power station next. Not sure if it matters what order we do these in? (I like that I have a choice.
Are those iron blocks a pipe?

That is correct. I think I'll go with the glass tube idea, but with the fences it looked really ugly if you 1.9-proofed it.
Opened time-space reactor, and the redstone ore moved too, even though I still have to go back and do the geothermal power station
You only need to do 4 of them as long as you have either diamond block from the geothermal station, but all 5 have computer chips in them. In the nether room (which I'm guessing you didn't get for some reason?) there is a "points-o-mat 9000" which can be repaired with the extra chip.
Maybe add some hills/mountains to the netherrack planet? Looks a little plain when you go outside. If that's what you want it to look like, then ignore my comment. I have the same situation with my Mars Mission map.
I don't use MCEdit (don't understand how to run it, all I see is a bunch of code files) or SPC (need newer OS to run proper version of java) so that would be a huge pain to build.
Lava = drill. I like the concept of the drill anyway. Maybe there's a way to do it with gravel/sand that falls in a pattern to look like a swirl/drill bit.
No, the lava is the emergency mining laser. The drill got destroyed because it was running at normal power and then hit bedrock, that's what the iron ring at the bottom is supposed to be.
Oh wow - that took a long time. I know you said to 'be patient' but I think other players will be down there and get kiled or go back into the base and get irritated.
I changed this so the lava destroys some redstone instead of burning the TNT. Also I'm going to change it to obsidian because at this point in the story humans don't have the technology to make bedrock... Don't know why I put that in there to begin with.
There's no minecart here to get my stuff across the lava? Pretending there was, I notice that I'll have to hit a second button halfway across. WHy not just let it go all the way?
I noticed that too, there is now a minecart there. Also, the chest 1/2 way across has some glowstone the player might want to put in the cart
And that's the end. Not really sure why we had to go into the nether for the end? I thought we were going to watch the Earth explode or something, but that's it.
The portals are to represent being teleported to Earth... the sequel (The Creeper Invasion) opens with the rules in the nether, then you go through a portal and come out a "teleportation booth" on Earth. Didn't you come out in a bedrock room where it says "To be continued, thanks for playing, map by planetfall666, here's how to measure your score?" I (think so anyway) used the same version you did and it worked.
Anything with an explosion resistance of 30 (iron blocks, stone, brick, etc.) will break a 3x3x3 cube with the TNT at the center and have no blast power left to break anything else

Ah - keyword is LASER. Got it. It works good, and you're limited in what you can do. I'm just picky.
Wait, the TNT opens to the lapis lazuli generator room? This is bad. This is very very bad.
I might have not been clear. I don't have the game in front of me but from memory - I came down a glowstone stairway into a cavern. On one end was the lapis area and the other end was bedrock.
The portals are to represent being teleported to Earth...
It works fine, I always question when you go through the portal for just a single room. If it's portaling us to Earth, it should look like Earth. And a clear sign that says where we are.
Also, I forgot to mention this, but take a look at all of your signs. Some of them (if I remember right) are written as the narrator's voice, some are thoughts, some are actual in-game signs on equipment. I was able to follow it fine, but after you've finished any high priority changes, just think about if there's a way to differentiate the signs a bit more?
I might have not been clear. I don't have the game in front of me but from memory - I came down a glowstone stairway into a cavern. On one end was the lapis area and the other end was bedrock.
Glowstone stairway? The glowstone stairway leads to the reactor room. I'm going to blame this one on whoever decided netherrack has a lower explosion resistance than sand.
It works fine, I always question when you go through the portal for just a single room. If it's portaling us to Earth, it should look like Earth. And a clear sign that says where we are.
I think this one just boils down to a difference in opinion. The map actually ends mid-teleport.
damn NOT compatible with SMP? I was about to play this for my ATW series :/
You'll spawn outside, that small area of the building (bottom right in aerial screenshot) has a big window you can break to get in, all you miss is the rules room which is duplicated in its entirety in the readme file. That's the only SMP problem there is.
Done recording (unless I missed a huge portion of the map completely :smile.gif:
It's possible to beat the map without doing certain parts but you still have to complete most of it... if you reached a bedrock room with signs that say "to be continued" and "thanks for playing" you are done, if not you aren't (unless you gave up)
I'm new to minecraft, and this is the first adventure I tried to play. When I started, I found that the stuff in the beginning was already done: A mine cart was already sitting in the entry (after hover cart track), the signs read 1 life sign and the walls were already open. I stopped there because I wanted to play it from the beginning. Is there a way to do a reset to fix everything? I already DL'd twice and played around with the other level.dat.
Thank you

Whoa... I'm honored that you looked here for your first map.
I've re-uploaded the save, try downloading one more time. If it doesn't work I will be forced to initiate emergency procedure 31-F, which consists largely of me hitting my head against various surfaces.
WAIT WAIT! That procedure is no longer necessary! :biggrin.gif:
Thank you, I'm enjoying this map. Never had a clue there would be a ship above my head :smile.gif:
and first death taking out the containment field... oops... :biggrin.gif:

Thank you... wait a second, you're supposed to spawn inside the ship... I'll have to make sure to fix that at some point, but it's less major than the old spawning problem and I'd like to get the sequel out in time.
I noticed you chose "other" (at least I think it was you) in the topic poll... would you mind elaborating on what you had in mind?
Finished and I'm quite happy with my first adventure played. I didn't place a vote cause I don't know much about these, but I'll come back and place one once I've played a few to compare to.
I only died twice, so I guess that's a good sign :biggrin.gif:
Thanks for the map

Nope, I was referring to the netherrack door underground. I think I might have posted something about this though. My short term memory is not fantastic.
It's a reference that it's an incredibly unstable device. It might be hard to tell, but I made that cavern with TNT.
Yup, that's what I was referring to as the "obvious time with ladders."

You only need to do 4 of them as long as you have either diamond block from the geothermal station, but all 5 have computer chips in them. In the nether room (which I'm guessing you didn't get for some reason?) there is a "points-o-mat 9000" which can be repaired with the extra chip.
Doctor Who
I'll add a few noteblocks when the dispenser fires.
I don't use MCEdit (don't understand how to run it, all I see is a bunch of code files) or SPC (need newer OS to run proper version of java) so that would be a huge pain to build.
No, the lava is the emergency mining laser. The drill got destroyed because it was running at normal power and then hit bedrock, that's what the iron ring at the bottom is supposed to be.
I changed this so the lava destroys some redstone instead of burning the TNT. Also I'm going to change it to obsidian because at this point in the story humans don't have the technology to make bedrock... Don't know why I put that in there to begin with.
Wait, the TNT opens to the lapis lazuli generator room? This is bad. This is very very bad.
Bedrock stairs, didn't you see them? Or does the TNT take out part of the floor?
I noticed that too, there is now a minecart there. Also, the chest 1/2 way across has some glowstone the player might want to put in the cart

Nice! I didn't know that.
I got there. More below...
I thought maybe.
Ah - keyword is LASER. Got it. It works good, and you're limited in what you can do. I'm just picky.
I might have not been clear. I don't have the game in front of me but from memory - I came down a glowstone stairway into a cavern. On one end was the lapis area and the other end was bedrock.
Glowstone stairway? The glowstone stairway leads to the reactor room. I'm going to blame this one on whoever decided netherrack has a lower explosion resistance than sand.
I think this one just boils down to a difference in opinion. The map actually ends mid-teleport.
You'll spawn outside, that small area of the building (bottom right in aerial screenshot) has a big window you can break to get in, all you miss is the rules room which is duplicated in its entirety in the readme file. That's the only SMP problem there is.
But anyways, here's Part 1 & more coming up soon :smile.gif:

Thank you, I'm enjoying this map. Never had a clue there would be a ship above my head :smile.gif:

Thank you... wait a second, you're supposed to spawn inside the ship... I'll have to make sure to fix that at some point, but it's less major than the old spawning problem and I'd like to get the sequel out in time.
I noticed you chose "other" (at least I think it was you) in the topic poll... would you mind elaborating on what you had in mind?
I only died twice, so I guess that's a good sign :biggrin.gif:
Thanks for the map

You're quite welcome.
Out of curiosity, what killed you the second time?
