The last thing I need on this challenge is for me to fail anytime I'm not lucky enough to have apples drop.
So I've failed 6 times already on this challenge for different reasons. So far things are looking good for #7, but I'm not going to assume they stay that way.

That's about typical. IIRC my win was on try 6, though after a while I realized that a few of my restarts, I would have actually been able to recover from the mistake I thought killed my chances.

So far, the only one I could recover on was my last run, when I lost my bucket, but I decided to save the hassle and just restart from a backup I made so I wouldn't run into my birch trees dropping no saplings.
First run, lost the sand
Second, lost the cactus.
Third was my birch sapling fiasco.
Fourth, creeper blew up my only sapling.
And fifth, destroyed my pumpkin stem, didn't get any seeds.
So I've had some odd luck, though some of those were preventable.
I mean, you *can* recover from losing your bucket, but I didn't want to have to wait for three iron drops from zombies just so I could keep working. The rest of those? Can't recover from, not and be able to do all the challenges.
Is the server the same as the solo mode? I'm in the server and was wondering how to get animals onto my island?
The servers have their own problems to work with, including the fact that you are limited to building typical in a 100x100 block area and that sometimes you land in a biome which won't allow you to spawn passive mobs (or any mob for that matter) like an ocean biome. If you are on a good day and perhaps one of the sysops happens to like you for some odd reason that can't be explained, they might be generous and relocate your island or even change the biome to something a little more reasonable. I wouldn't hold your breath for that to happen if you are unlucky and get into that situation.
Otherwise you need to use the standard rules for spawning passive mobs. I have been able to get most of the passive mobs to spawn on the server, but it takes incredible patience. I've found especially on a server that having hostile mobs will impact the spawn rate of passive mobs... particularly if a "neighbor" has a mob tower/grinder nearby. If you can build a bridge to a nearby island (with the permission of the server operator as well as your neighbor) you may be able to trade for some of those animals too. As of Minecraft 1.4 you can also move mobs through portal gates, so you might be able to transport cows, pigs, and sheep through the Nether on something like minecarts or even the old fashion way with grain.
Give it time. Noobcrew has an ISP which is bandwidth limited, so sometimes links don't work because he has temporarily exceeded the download bandwidth cap. If you try again in a day or so, you often can get a download to work.
This is a very popular map, so don't be so angry that you can't get it right away.
This was very creative and fun to play, awesome work done!

I'm wanting to create a space map. I just need the right textures. Give me a good space texture pack without MCpatcher and i will do just fine. I will credit you just...just tell me the link or...yeah.

I was shown by an OP how to move my island. I had a location that was griefer central.. routinely getting people bridging through and over my island and others and raping and pillaging it all.
The OP showed me that when you join someone else's island, it resets your own home/spawn island position. So instead of doing /newisland replace, which recreates in the same place over and over.. you can just do /newisland, and end up in an entirely new location.
So just join someone else's island briefly, and then go back to spawn and start fresh with a new island. Worked for me anyhow.
on bukkit, you need a world save for overworld AND nether, but what he gives us is only the overworld save. So when i go to the nether i spawn in a regular nether.
Yeh, any ideas on how I can add more dirt and sand? Cobble stone/stone you can make with water and lava. and such should I just add sand and dirt to the chest?
you could make little blobs of the minerals (gravel with stone on bottom, sand with sandstone) far from the island .
the crafting bookcases goal should be a special achievement because it still is possible (after a bunch of work) to GET passives to spawn on the island!
