So, a while ago me and my brother created West Freeport, in its original state, from the mmo Everquest. We had started on North Freeport, but the file got deleted. I got bored a few weeks ago and decided to start this up again and just finished North Freeport. We were as accurate as possible in placing trees, cacti, furniture, signs, etc. Minecraft makes some things hard to replicate well though, so we tried our best.
Made two short videos showing most of West and North Freeport. I made them running at double the speed so it wouldn't take as long
After thinking about it for awhile I decided to put up a download for it. All I ask is that if anyone were to use it for anything, credit would be nice. So yeah, here is the download.
After making West Freeport the first time, I got pretty burnt out and didn't mess with it for a long time, and that is how I feel now after completing North Freeport. I plan on working on East Freeport next, its just going to be awhile before I can get myself to go through it again. After that, I would like to to East commons, Nro, etc.
Thanks go out to the classic Everquest server Project 1999 for making this possible.

Oh man, does that bring back memories. Like forgetting to turn off a damage song on my bard and running up to one of the merchants just outside (without having bound on that continent yet.) Like having to position myself just so, look straight down and run across the courtyard to get into the bank, so I could move and not lag out. Like running back and forth doing that muffin quest...
Many for your work on that project. Thanks. :biggrin.gif:
Just because they changed Everquest with all those new expansions doesn't mean we can't enjoy classic everquest like this. Perhaps more people should look into Project 1999 (Classic Everquest pre-luclin).
With that said, AMAZING work on this recreation. You've really outdone yourself. I run through Freeport almost daily and I'm really impressed with this work.

Love the work. But shouldn't project 1999 be illegal? Doesn't it break some form of law.

**** the law, 1999 is how EQ should be. Great job Aandolaf. When are you going to go back to your EQ texture pack, the original one, not the Velious one.

Imagine if the chinese got bored when they built the great wall of China..
You know, my first character, back in '99, was a Monk devoted to Quellious. This really took me back to my first days of MMO, back when it still was 'whoaaa...'.
I salute you, good sir.
Also, did you get the sewers set up? Those pallies have to get to their guild somehow, yanno :tongue.gif:
Just as a random thought... if we got a bunch of us together on a SMP server, we could probably recreate pre-Kunark EQ. It'd take a *LOT* of time and effort, which is why I say SMP, but I think it could be done.
I recall SoE saying that their stance on Project 1999 was "We don't support it but we aren't going to do anything about it as long as they dont redistribute our live content blah blah blah."
At any rate I'd assume as long as you own EverQuest I you're safe unless SoE has a change of heart, even if they do they'll probably go after Project 1999 instead of the people using it. With EQ2 being their big game atm I doubt they really give two shits about it honestly.

IF some one would be willing to host such a server, I would definitely be up for it. And no, no sewers. Wasn't gonna bother with those until East Freeport was completed.
Made an account just to tell you that this is amazing! A total EverQuest to MineCraft recreation project sounds fun to me. Waiting for the boat to Kaladim!
You have to put the zip into your saves folder. To get there, type %appdata% in the search box, then roaming > minecraft > saves. Or something like that.
Sir, you nearly brought me to tears. As did the music. I remember running through freeport, spamming Feign Death and crying as Guards beat the bloody hells out of me as a Iksar SK (damn was I hated everywhere).
This is remarkable, you truly put some effort into this, I wanted to post to thank you for your effort. I sent this to everyone in my Rift guild (all the EX-EQ players), of whom are like "miencruft suxxx" and "why do you play it, it seems boring". Even they had a true appreciation for this!
Thank you for your hard work!!!!! :smile.gif: Many Diamonds to you sir!
*EDIT* I may download this and try and work on Qeynos... that was a city I always loved (BlackBurrow rep grind, ugh). if I make a good bit of progress on it I could send you the Schematic for use with MC-Edit or something. You have inspired me! :biggrin.gif:

I would 100% be up for this and help out with it completely. We could maybe get a few others from this thread, work on NPC's with Java? (:
To give some life. MineQuest would be awesome to play. :biggrin.gif:
I'd be on this server in a heartbeat if it's made.
Would be one hell of a project but using a few bukkit mods it wouldn't be TOO hard to edit the world out and get zones placed.
The main problem would be the world being too big! Because even pre-kunark EQ was larger than life. Imagine how big the Karanas themselves would be in minecraft lol.
I bet I could build Odus in a month or two though. I'd love to make Paineel and the hole.

I also started making Qeynos However my map broke so i then started on halas but then got distarted by other things, however if somone made a muiltiplayer server i would be on it working hard in making a city probaly try halas/everfrost or quynos again.
