For a short prologue version of this series you're making, I must say it was very well done!
I especially liked the overall set-up of the map and the texture pack made everything all-the-more scenic and fitting. The layout of was very nice too, it was small and realistic but not overly cramped, you should definitely continue on with that layout!
Another thing I should point out is the 'checkpoint' room, it looked great with the texture pack and made for a great spot to respawn at by using the bed if you die. I enjoyed the fact that you didn't use a lot of text, but it was short and to the point enough that I had a feel for what was going on and didn't have to read through a bunch of paragraphs in a text document.
Regarding mods, personally I prefer to use the Unofficial SDK's Gun Mod 1.5_01 for maps like this, and I did. It's a bit more fitting to the style of the map, but it would've been just as good without the mod. For the AdventureCraft mod, I don't think it would be a half-bad idea to include it. I would like to see some more traps or lighting effects in this series, and it might be beneficial to add it (the fan would make for an interesting trap of some sort!). People complain about mods because they don't know how to install them properly, don't let that hold you back on how well you can make your maps.
That's all really. I enjoyed pretty much everything in this map and it made it feel like a pretty generic FPS game, but it felt very original when playing it. Looking forward to the next chapter!
I'd also like to ask, is this a solo project of yours? If so, fantastic job! If not, are you looking for anyone to help with ideas or even mapping itself? I'm working on a few things myself, but I'm interested in doing a collaborative project.
Hey man! I just thought that I would reply to your PM here. The link is already up and I'm downloading it now to test it out. Looks great from the pics, and I'll definitely be writing a little review once I get a chance to play it!
Well, I'd say it depends on what you're going to be going to do with the rest of the series. Are you going to keep the main bit sort've linear or will you try to stray off with some extra bits and free-roam kind've stuff? If so, I might have a few ideas you could use.
I'm working on a map myself right now, and I could probably give you a few ideas if you're interested.
Sounds like progress is going pretty good! Can't wait to check out the next release.
You should definitely go with the mods, it'd make things a lot more interesting and complex. Some of the adventure maps that have been made area pretty much all the same; jumping and redstone puzzles and the like. It would really make things more unique if you added traps and stuff, I'd love to see an area where you need to avoid fans or be pushed into a spike trap, that'd be neat.
Regarding SDK's, you could probably make that optional. However, when I used SDK's on the prologue of this map I found it sort've fit to the style of the adventure you were going for. It'd be interesting to see what kind of stuff you could do with it.
I've noticed something in the waterfall of your prologue by the way. If you swim up it far enough, you'll eventually reach the top of it and you can see the outside of the map. I'd recommend blocking the open part with something. It's not really a huge issue but it's still there.
I also read that you were making a military wing and you've added an armory. I'm making a shooting range to go with SDK's guns, I'll probably make it in a map soon and you could check it out and get ideas, I wouldn't mind exchanging some thoughts or ideas on features as long as we share some kind of recognition for use.
Anyways, keep up the good work on the project. I'll probably post again when I get that shooting range finished, hopefully it will only take a few hours if I'm not gone for a fair bit of the night.
