I think challenge is really hard to rate and also something really hard to balance properly (for a map maker).
For sure, particularly because I can only rate it against my current 'ability' at the time of playing.
I try to look for physical challenge as well as mental challenge.
Navigation puzzles
Mob fights - density of mobs, types, the places you fight them IN.
player traps (was there a fair warning/clue? was there an escape route?)
logic puzzles
how hard is it to find hidden rewards vs. their value
Does lighting play a factor?
Variety / combinations of all the above
What does it add to the experience to lose your gear?
I think it can add a lot to a map if used properly. The player is much more aware and careful in a map where they are always at risk of losing their gear. With keepInventory, that risk disappears.
I recently livestreamed these two subjects, and I've decided not to edit/upload them to YouTube. Let me know if these interest you and I may change my mind or re-shoot.

Just started watching the first few. As soon as DCFC started playing, I nearly cried with joy. Death Cab is possibly my favorite band ever !
Clever redstone (of course) but once you know where to aim, it's pretty simple. Also, I was really hoping for something more interesting after the 10th shot. Maybe a fireworks update.
Minor note - I would add a sign (or book) that says to stay standing on the difficulty selector.
You should just bump your own thread, unless it's to do with this one it's a bit cheap :/
I created this thread so that map makers could get exposure. I am perfectly fine with someone occasionally letting us know that their map has been updated, particularly if it's on my list to play and I haven't gotten to it yet.

So I see nothing wrong with that post.
Thanks! I won't do that anymore though, I reallized I do feel like I was advertising...

No forum post, so I'm not sure how long he'll keep this download link available after I post this: http://www.mediafire.com/?i67xgpggxd2242l
Total Rating: 14/20
Creativity - 3. This really feels like detective work, piecing together clues from telegrams, custom books, vendor trades, and command block NPC text.
Detail - 3. The visuals are constrained to tight train corridors, but you can see attention to detail in every room.
Experience - 3. It really does feel like you're a detective trying to piece together clues. Maybe I should have taken notes!
Challenge - 3
Progression - 2. Here is where I will round down due to a lot of running back and forth, trying to find the right villagers.
Just spent 3 hours with Fellonius, playing a Mini-CTM that was unfortunately incomplete... as in... there is a basic terrain and a passable volcano, but NO dungeons or wools.

There is one ravine that is a bit of a mob challenge... so maybe my "6" is generous.

Final episode of my Blight Castle playthrough.
This was a fantastic CTM. Definitely one of my all time favorite Minecraft maps.

A strange story through a series of 6 or so missions to stop the squids.
Humorous "boss battle". Unforgiving lava jumps.

You don't need to advertise your map here more than once.
