Wow, it's been a while since anybody commented on this AWESOME Adventurecraft Map!
You can thank Cryect's blog for me finding this, I'm glad there are people like you who realize that Adventurecraft can be used for more than just Zelda style Adventures.
I love the "survival horror" style of the whole Adventure, the atmosphere projected so much dread, that I thought something bad was gonna happen when I escaped the town.
I'm actually making a map similar to this, but its much longer, more open ended and incorporates all of the Items available, Do you think you can give me a few pointers on the best way to make a good map? (only non-linear?)
I've dropped into the "Battle cave" - the one with lava on the sides and roof - and can't proceed. In cryects video theres a ton of mobs spawning, and he can then reach the exit hole with a tricky jump.
In my case/map version nothing spawns and the exit is utterly out of reach.

Sorry about that. I removed the possibility of that jump when things were stabilized enough for the encounter to finish and trigger the dropping rocks properly, but recent versions of AdventureCraft might have affected things in unexpected ways again ... and I think the recent cosmetic patch managed to rotate the ladders in the map by 90 degrees and such, and other more damaging things might happen too, I guess.
I'll put out a new updated version (just general fixing of things and very minor cosmetic changes) when things stabilize a bit and I have time to work on it. In the meantime, your (and everyone else's) best bet for playing the map is probably to try older versions of AC (r480 should be guaranteed to work with the map, but you'd need to downgrade MC using MCNostalgia or something), and you might also need to start over from the beginning since just importing the save would probably just stay broken.
Or you could just use fly mode to skip the room, if you don't feel like all that trouble. (F4 to access debug mode, type /fly in chat to enable and then again to disable flying, F4 again to exit debug mode)
great map man took me 25-30 mins and only got 2 ='( and no or (lol <---thats supposed to be a heart piece)

My game crashes VERY often. I have not gotten very far before it crashes and i have to delete the save. When it crashes, all doors close (you cant get through gold key doors, as the key is gone), and chests restock. It's frustrating.
EDIT- Nevermind. I turned the graphics on fast and t worked perfectly. Great map, very fun :biggrin.gif:
Would it be ok if I edit some of you textures to use in a map I'm making? I mostly want to use the sign backgrounds and maybe the crates and the main character
Brill map! I got stuck around the part where the lava gates were (I didn't realize there was another space above the door and spent about 10 mins throwing my boomerang in untill i tried jumping. Dumbass. (I didn't die when I got in though) I got the crown, iron sword and 2 hearts. Have a

An adventure is no fun if you know where you're going
Why haven't more people played this?!
It's just...outstanding
I've played so many AC maps and the majority suck
This...this meets almost all my Standards of a good map:
-Short, sweet, to the point: Long maps lose my attention after a while mainly cause they get repetitive but also because I'm kinda a busy person as well as I have a short attention span
-No over emphasized plot: A simple one really if any, it's left to your imagination and that can paint a picture better than most artists
-(Very well)Hidden items: I found everything except 2 hearts)
-(Good)Atmosphere: 90% of maps lack this (Albeit it was simple, just rain, constant nighttime, and a few zombies here and there to add to the plot, but still, it was something). I personally think that music, sounds, weather, and the look of the map are 30% of the experience (Another 25% puzzles, 20% plot, 15% hidden goodies, and 10% combat)
-Exploring: I'm just that kinda guy. But anyways, even though it was a small location (good in my opinion) you still were able to make it seem...more than it was. And I didn't have to climb 4 mountains, cross 2 deserts, swim an ocean and a half, and kill over 9,000 enemies to figure out where the hell I need to go. The beauty of it really is after a while you learn the location and it's easier to explore new area's becuse you know what's new and what's not
The Standards it didn't meet were:
-NPC's: They add atmosphere, help plot, add interaction, and overall make a map funner for me. In your case, it's understandable why you didn't have any (The feeling of the map is alone and mysterious)
-Easter Eggs: Not necessary but a personal favorite of mine
-Innovative Thinking: Ideas/Puzzles that people haven't done before. I know it's hard being original though. I struggle so much with this with the map I'm working on
Overall Score: / (8/10)
Good luck with your next map
Hope to see some fresh and original content
Excellent map Lastair! I made it out with 1 death. I got all the listed items, except for one piece of heart. I still have no clue where it is. (Edit: Watched the gameplay video, saw where I missed it. d'oh) Anyway, great work and atmosphere!
There are a couple technical hitches - when I died in the town hall, all the mobs were reset and I didn't have to fight them at all. The ladders are rotated on AC r799 so that they look a bit out of place, but this doesn't seem to make anywhere inaccessible. (Edit: When I later watched the gameplay video, I noticed that some of the sounds do not play on this version of AC either.) You can break and replace paintings too. A couple more hints and feedback would have been nice - after I got the keys I forgot that I had them. I was wandering around town for ages not knowing what to do, all the while holding the key to the town hall. Some feedback the first time you flip a gate switch would be helpful too, something like: "The mechanism must be broken"... "This one is broken too?"... etc. I didn't realize that they didn't do anything. Likewise when you find the switches towards the end of the map.
None of this is to discredit your work. You have an amazing eye for detail and have added so many little touches to this map to heighten suspense and keep the player intrigued. This map is a showcase of some of the best exploration gameplay I have seen in a hobbyist game, and it beats a great many high budget title hands down. I am very impressed by how much gameplay you have managed to wind up in such a tight space. That makes the work all the more intricate and masterful. I haven't had the same feeling since Half-Life 2, the sense of coming upon familiar terrain but from a whole new vantage point is exhilarating. You also have a great sense of pacing, the progression of the story felt just right. I could go on about the lighting, textures, etc.
Excellent, excellent job. I really hope we see more from you. Personally I'm not that big a fan of the suspenseful atmosphere, so I would love to see the same type of gameplay in a more cheerful setting for a subsequent project. :biggrin.gif: As it stands though, I think this map should be a poster child for the AdventureCraft Mod. Definitely front page material, showing off what the mod can and should do.

Definitely 100% agree btw! Still I think currently my favorite map.
The map has been included now as downloadable from inside of AdventureCraft. It also has fixes for the ladders.

Has the author completely abandoned the project? It plays (and has played for a while) like a fully complete map so I don't know if he is still planning on updating it.
In any case, now that people are downloading the map now that the AC ingame downloader has been added, some of us AC developers are willing to step in and offer help/advice for other users struggling with this map. Feel free to post questions here, and we'll try to help.
Wow at first i'd see very small gameplay, but then i saw it was huge
This is very close to what i was trying to get at with my custom map it looks great and i too have experimented with AC but it made it too linear, i wanted to give my players more options to get to somewhere else.
Truly inspiring...
i didn't think of the basement idea looks great i'll give it a try!
Really great map! It was so great in fact, that I randomly decided to do a Let's Play on it :biggrin.gif:
It took me a long time to find all the Hidden Goodies, but I found them all, and it's in a bonus episode after the Let's Play. Thanks for making this, it's probably the best map out there!
HATE the boss fight though. Especially because (while not your fault) the spawners glitch out. It's fairly annoying when the enemies don't despawn and there's extra spiders left over. And the spiders spawned behind me almost constantly whenever I tried to get up to the jump.
Rest of the map was great though, zombies added quite an effect to the map. I only found one gold bar around the town hall to be non-specific for no spoilers. I looked around a bit afterwards in debug and found most of the other stuff.
I have decided to have a bottomless spoiler as well, and am not the first but mine is bottomless (kinda).
