That's... really bizarre. However I've been seeing this issue popup with other folks' normal maps today too, seems to bee a bug (or prank?) since the update, everyone I've seen with this problem is still using or had reverted back to v1.3. Hold out and there should be a fix from Mojang on that soon.
As an aside, must say I'm a bit disappointed with this update. It added almost nothing for me to use, nothing game-changing, but ah well. I'm working on new areas, including one where you might be able to pick up a wolf companion, but that's about the extent of the 1.4-ness so far, some cookies in the bakery I suppose, wow.
Mini-rant -- The more I think about it, the more I almost feel... insulted by this update. Random fanboy wish fulfillment and a self-congratulation system, huh. Really? Biggest disappointment: so much stuff this game needs and none of it is achievements. :sad.gif:
What the **** Notch?
/rant
But hey isn't Minecraft an awesome game? Still my favorite. Sigh.
Really?
Even ignoring the, quote, "random fanboy wish fulfillment" that is the cookie, the update had an entirely new mob with multiple context animations which is tamable and and doesn't despawn, the re-introduction of the lost dye, a new sheep color, the spawn-movement system, ladder stillness, that wasn't enough for you?
And why do you hate achievements? Do you have some distaste for statistic tracking, or objectives and goals? Do you dislike having something small and OPTIONAL that can motivate new creativity and give people some potential direction?
Just ridiculous. This is a really impressive map, and I've been enjoying my time in it immensely, but... Wow. It's really depressing to see such narrow-minded ranting from a designer of something this cool.
Really?

You fail to appreciate my perspective as a map creator: there is nothing new to work with here. The context of my remarks is in a thread where I am planning updates. You know, I just wanted to blow off some steam and have my little say, but now I'm going to have to address this point-by-point to the Notch Defence Force.
Fanboy wish-fulfillment is the wolves actually. Read up on that if you like as I don't care to repeat the story. And while I liked the idea of hostile but tameable wolves, and the animation is adorable, so far they are unimpressive and generally useless. And they are the best thing in this update. Let's be honest, it's underwhelming after 1.3.
You get excited over cocoa beans which were missing from the last update because..? Cookies were a complete afterthought. Pink sheep is a plus... are you serious? Ladder stillness is another small but useful tweak, but something to get excited about, I don't think so.
The spawn movement thing is broken. When it works, sure, that's great too.
But now you mention achievements. Tell me, what are achievements going to add to your experience? I've been playing for about a year, and there is literally nothing left for me to "achieve" in this game as a player, that's why I am designing maps now. I have nothing against achievements except that they should be an absolute non-priority that gets added when the game goes retail, not before. Content now, achievements later. Purely masturbatory addition IMO.
Stats I actually like the idea of. But these aren't working either so...
Honestly, you should realize it's possible to love something and still criticize it, and I think my points are all valid ones. However, I don't want to get into a flamewar. I presume you have the maturity to appreciate a point of view that differs from your own? Compare the substance of this release to the last few, please. I'm not saying the sky is falling, so don't lose your head.
e: Furthermore let me add that even the best companies drop the ball occasionally. I'd be lying if I said Valve never disappointed me either. To me, this is a fumble from Mojang, and it is my obligation as a beta player to make clear my expectations and reception of various game components as they are introduced. And I can only hope that my concerns will be given due attention as there are surely others who share my opinion. Anyway I have nothing else to say about this update, and if you want to discuss it further I will gladly engage in a separate thread or via pm.
Really?

Certainly.
I fully understand that this is your view, but it still seems off to me-- Nothing you said actually changes anything, and insisting that they front-load content and try to tack on a tracking framework after is a bit offensive towards the programmers.
I can understand that this offered little to you as a map editor, and for that, I don't have a response-- Yeah, it didn't. And? It was not supposed to. Every update is different.
And I agree, there is no need to start a flamewar here-- No insults, just discussion, which seems about over regardless.
Although I do have to ask... Why are the wolves the fanboy pandering? I just don't see it, unless you are referencing some forum thing. I've only been on this forum in brief bursts, and this is one of the only threads I follow.
Notch Defense Force? Really? You throw weird epithets like that and then say you don't want to start a flame war? When I didn't insult or categorize you at all? Smooth.

Okay, some dude at the recent awards where Mojang swept house requested pet wolves and Notch just said "Yeah, sure!" in a heartbeat. But add any feature that's been voted to high heaven on his feature request tracker? Heh.
Actually I believe it was a developer Notch admired so maybe he is the fanboy.

Well you did sort of call me narrow-minded but no harm done. :smile.gif: And that was addressed to all comers, please don't take it personally. Peace.

Okay, fair enough, not every update has to be geared with me in mind, but consider that this is the first major update I can recall with no new building options. From a construction standpoint, it's disappointing. Granted, the game needs new mobs too, and if the wolves' quirks are ironed out, they will be a nice addition. What I really would like to see is a more organized effort from Mojang, for them to focus on one weak area of the game, and tackle it head-on each update. To be fair, they have had a busy month, so let's just say I look forward to 1.5!
I've posted my opinions about this at length elsewhere, and I already regret bringing them into this thread. Please accept my humble apologies if I have offended a potential fan of my work, since I can't boast of having many of those. I sincerely appreciate your position as well.
hey i wanted to play this map with my friend so i downloaded the map and i've put it in my world folder, but i sort of spawn in the middle of nowhere.. and it happens to me in about every map.. why is my spawn point never on the right spot?
I wish I had a solution for this, but it's never happened to me, so I don't know why it happens for some people with custom maps. Are you running it in SMP? Spawning position seems to be less stable in multiplayer for some reason (probably to prevent telefrags). Perhaps try a different download link, maybe your file got corrupted?
Anyone having troubles getting started, post or PM me as much information about your setup as you can: which MC version/mode, any mods in use, which links you've tried, and most helpfully a daylight screenshot of a distinctive landmark where you are spawning, and I'll try to troubleshoot.
I also recently rendered some new maps of the entire Minerva world (something like 6100x4500 -- Criswelvania is a speck!), I'm adding some annotations and will post them up soon. This should help people hunt for other locations, and be of use to server admins as well.
Next week I hope to release a set of multiplayer competitive challenges for testing. They are fully functional now, just lacking some frills like stadium seating for spectators and more musical effects. For the moment I'll just be looking for some feedback on what works and what sucks. It's in the same world, so you can play either game with the same map.
hey. how do i exactly play this, i've done the installation thing, but its not working, someone help?
Please see the newly-added FAQ & Troubleshooting section at the bottom of the main post for how to help me help you with any problems with this map. Follow the directions and provide all the required information, and I'll be glad to assist you.

Damn that was an awesome map.
I have yet to progress in the Nether inverted castle, since by that point it lags like hell, but dayum. amazing map.
question-
what's the point of that small little room that says "it doesnt matter what you know or dont know"? It's got a small little track that goes up into the wall, and theres a redstone torch, but Im not sure what the deal is with that room...
Take a closer look -- that's a torture rack :smile.gif: The sign echoes a line from the movie Reservoir Dogs.
Yes, you're the second person to notice that I completely invented all the graveyard dates, cookies to you! :smile.gif: Didn't realize there were actually official dates until I read the Castlevania wiki pages. May change that in the next version, although Criswelvania is decidedly in its own canon.
This map is amazing. :smile.gif:
The only things that bothered me were that the store chests were cluttered with random items and that there wasn't a separate chest for payments. Also, did you intend for there to be more paintings and books than you could sell?
You're supposed to "Buy" from them. Did you read the Readme? I suggest you do.
Criswell, I'm sorry I haven't found this map before now. I'm an avid fan of the Castlevania series, and this looks like an amazing crossover. I'm downloading it now, and certainly going to try it out.
I've uploaded a new challenge map, the Minerva Cup Regatta. It's set in the same world as Criswelvania, but rather than an horror-themed action scenario, this is a survival and navigation challenge for single player, or up to 16 players or more can compete on an epic voyage.
If you're been looking for a rewarding nautical challenge, or a reason to travel over 13km in a boat, head on over to this thread to find out more.
Don't worry, more adventures are coming. First, the Criswelympics are getting some final polish, and I hope to have that ready for next week. Nine events finished so far now -- writing the rulebook is taking forever! It's going to be cool though, so look forward to it!
After that my full attention goes into the next Criswelvania installment, and if pistons get added in 1.5... muahahaha!
Wow I got to the ending of the Nether Criswelvania and I went to explore the caves and wasnt paying attentions and fell into a 1x1 hole with lava in it.... I died =/ lost all my stuff =P

Yeah, that's why I backed up my save before entering the Nether. :tongue.gif:
I'm really looking forward to releasing this next map, just needs a bit more polish, but here's a preview:
And a map of the whole thing:
Finally, I accomplished my goal of creating 10 fun new sporting challenges, each one taking advantage of unique aspects of Minecraft physics, items and gameplay. All of these games offer enjoyable competition for multiplayer, but several events can still be played solo for practice.
The illustrated guidebook is about 30 pages, complete with maps and comprehensive rulesets for all games. It's almost ready, stay tuned! Tons of new pics in the album here.
is there any way to get out if you take the wrong turn in the temple of judgement? or is TNT my only option x3?
There is a way, at the bottom of the stairs, there is a secret passage. It's just very scary and dangerous, and if you ever see daylight again you will probably kiss the ground.
If you find the right way, a door will lock behind you and you'll find a chest with few but very necessary supplies to escape. Can't tell you much more than that without spoiling. :wink.gif:
If you mean that you are already wandering in there, yes there is an exit. Keep seeking a way up. You may need items from that chest I mentioned. Try not to fall into a worse situation!

Whew, I just found my way out shortly, and yeah x3. I'd played the game with friends on an SMP server and I'm playing it by myself now, so I already knew about the dark abyss, but I wanted ot take a peek in myself, problem being I was carrying valuables so death wasn't an option.
x3 I'm liking this map, really.
Also, the exploding trap at the end of the cave of judgement almost got me!
I have a LP of it that needs to go up soon, but I've not been able to upload it thanks to youtube's superdickery lately involing unlimited upload times.
Really?
