This is probably because slime spawning heights were increased to layers 0-40 (from 0-16). You could try removing all light, walking ~130 blocks away (to force despawns) and hope it doesn't return as severely, but otherwise there's nothing you can do until Vechs updates Sunburn Islands and moves the entire dungeon elsewhere.
Sadly, no. Hopefully in the next update of Canopy Carnage Vechs will move the island away.
As a temporary fix I suppose you could use MCEdit to add a glass roof to the affected areas, which might help.
These are Steve spawners, however they were deactivated in 1.8 and beyond and now spawn nothing. Don't mind them.
(Sunburn Islands was built for 1.7.)
Vechs has said in the Super Hostile Terraria thread that he enjoys map-making in 3D more than in 2D, and he still wants a "spawner" type block in Terraria.
We can still hope...
Wait... Steve spawners?? What did they spawn??? Why haven't I heard of these?? Were they hostile?
They are basically the default minecraft player. They would spawn and make the same noises that a player makes when damaged. They would attack with their fist, so pretty much like a fast moving zombie but also creepy to see.
Well with 1 second timers redwire and statues he can make a spawner type block.
Merry christmas Vechs, I'm still gonna burn your house down.
Hehe, hope you don't get trolled for this ... anyone who does actually hasn't played ragequit holidays... regardless though.. it's not a true finish of it. Good job nonetheless my friend very well!! I like the twist :wink.gif:
LEVEL 3 IS HELL. GODDAMNIT.
What I expected: Hard, but short Super Hostile Map with a winter theme. Something I could build and play on while trying to build up to retrieve wool from crazy fortresses/traps.
What I got: Super Hostile Parkour on Hardmode.
I appreciate all the effort Vechs puts into his map making, I really do, but, dang it, I wish there was some warning that it was mainly a parkour map. I don't play parkour maps, mostly because I can't do jumping puzzles worth crap. Still, felt slightly clever exploiting signs to make sand-platforms. I wish there were more options in how to approach obtaining each wool, but, oh well. Thanks for putting something out for the holidays, Vechs.
I'm glad I've had a full night to cool down, though, because if I had put this up right after my attempts at beating that map last night, that post would have consisted entirely of caps-lock expletives and would have gotten me banned. I've almost made it to the second wool. I think. Maybe. Damn skeletons.
They're pretty spooky the first time you see one.
Interestingly, according to the wiki, Notch wasn't completely trolling us the first three times he put "Herobrine removed" in the changelog. He was actually referring to various features being removed from this mob in each successive update.

You do realize this is the closest Vechs has ever gotten to making something that actually feels like a ROMhack?
Though I agree; I can see why I appreciate the fact that most of Vechs' "ROMHack Hard" levels aren't, in fact, ROMHack hard. They're closer to stuff like Parallel Worlds, rather than stuff like Kaizo Mario.
Exploring Sea of Flames II
I have a question myself. This is my first time playing any version of Sea of Flames, and I found the area with the VM. What I'm wondering is, are those pathways the intended, main routes to the other areas? Or are those other areas places that you could just as feasibly reach by exploring the surface, without having even found the VM?
Honestly, if those paths lead into places that I could easily reach on the surface, then I think it would be more fun for me to find them up there rather than to kick back and ride the luxury express.
Santa claus > Vechs. Though maybe they are one and the same.
Honestly I don't see why it's not rated as Hard after the spider dungeon. I think Vechs was trolling about the difficulty. So far I'm finding Legendary to be easier.
The trapdoors in the Hillian Supply Chest are for Cilantrogamer, aren't they? :tongue.gif:
... I think. I have a question.
If I did beat it, my score of Super Hostile is:
Endless Deep: 0 deaths
Sunburn Islands: 4 deaths
Infernal Sky II: 15 deaths
Sea of Flames II: 38 deaths
For the 3rd time.
In 10 minutes.
You should create 300+, just sayin'.
