Yeah... I saw that one coming... I think people will have to make mods to alter the lighting engine. Maybe make a "1.7 lighting engine" mod, where they scrap the old lighting engine and make it a mod.
Edit (because I dont wanna double post): I think the hunger system would add to his choice of difficulty. He could give you a chest in romhack hard mode full of zombie meat, because that poisons you. He can give you a chest full of stacked pork chops for easy mode maps.
Or an entire dungeon made of silverfish blocks.

nom spammnig healing made the game easier, its called more challange. its quite fun having to live off zombie meat in a giant cavern full of lava, sniping endermen and desperately trying to widdle down the number of mobs.

The amount of health you regain is retarded. Half a heart every five seconds isn't useful in maps like Super Hostile.
