I'm glad I encountered these (via Yogscast, if I recall)... they really make me think differently about the game. Especially when resources are severely limited.
In fact, today I had a Dirt Creeper blow up on me on Canopy Carnage, and my first thought was "dang it, now I've got too much dirt" (meaning: the parameters of the challenge are no longer how Vechs set them to be). And now I'm conspicuously avoiding that spot on the map until I figure out how to deal with it.
My dad is also enjoying your maps; right now he's on Infernal Sky, and he's found about half of the wools (and I think you may have finally taught him to stop digging gravel while standing on gravel; also, he found an island practically made of minerals and he got this spaced-out look on his face that was kinda fun to watch). My nephew likes Sunburnt Islands, Canopy Carnage, Legendary, and Black Desert, although he plays on Peaceful. (For statistical data: I'm 33, my dad's 65, and my nephew's almost 8. Also, since my dad has outgrown the "Hey, Dad, do this likely suicidal thing on the game so I can see what happens" phase of his life, I'm pleased to find that my nephew has just started it: He's managed to set off two treasure chest traps on Black Desert at my request. Though technically the second one was during an attempt to disarm it.)
I know the upcoming patch is going to stall you for a while as you figure out how to deal with it, and that some of what I'm about to say has likely been said repeatedly within these 374 pages I haven't read... and maybe you won't even read this either. But here's some stuff I'm hoping for the future, specifically, some themes for your upcoming maps:
1. Mountain
2. Swamp
3. Canyon/Mesa (like Thousand Needles on World of Warcraft: spires from a dry ground)
4. Snow and Ice, perhaps with caves you couldn't light up for fear of melting them (could locate and use redstone devices to turn on the glowstone lights via pistons)
5. More perspective traps, like the starting coal in Kaizo Cavers.
Another thought, if you wanted to modify the monument concept slightly:
A farm, all set up at the start, but you need to hunt down and retrieve the supplies and get it running again. Say robbers ran off with stuff or the like. So, e.g., hunt down glass to repair the greenhouse, seeds to plant wheat, a way to repair the spring, etc. So each part of the monument would correspond with one task needed to get the farm back in tip-top condition.
Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Your stuff has been stellar so far. I just hope Notch moves a little in your direction someday.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My YouTube channel is currently on hiatus, but I hope to get back to it at some point. Content is fairly random, but can be enjoyable, and is mostly game footage (mostly random Minecraft clips) from my nephews and me. Most popular MC vid so far is the one Vechs laughed at on Twitter!
the off-state redstone torch is a great BUD switch
block 36 could be used as creepy darker-than-usual entrance
piston arms without pistons make nice-looking assets
Been meaning to do that, but yes, I do know about them, although I haven't experimented with them too much. I'm slightly weary to depend on them in case a patch changes how they work.
Yeah, so, Vechs, I'm really worried about the hunger bar now. Apparently an empty hunger bar will cause your health to drop down to five hearts on easy, .5 hearts on normal, and it will kill you on hard. The beginning of Legendary would be nigh-impossible with that going on... :dry.gif:

Little backed up in my lp series so here's two today :smile.gif:
Sea of Flame II Episode 24 & 25
There's also some new Sunburn Co-Op with Pam posted that I haven't linked.
I think I have the sound issues worked out, but I've already recorded so much footage with the bad audio I think I'll be cutting some of the series off midway to restart them with better audio.
In comment to The Endless Deep, I really liked the sunken ship the most out
of the entire map, I think it would of been really easy to make the map about
sunken cities and ships and boats, Channel awesome had an underwater build that
might give you a few ideas.
As you said the only real way to get around the water density issue is through
the clear water mod or first player commands clear water command. However I treated
the density as part of the challenge, which sort of made it more rewarding completing it.
And the pumpkins helped a lot too.
Hell even windows or invida editing the water would be a good step away from what
feels like at the moment a poor mans Kaizo Cavern.
Thanks for the maps
Yeah, part of me wants to just delete Endless Deep, but my list would look funny with number 2 missing. I just don't like the map at all. And when Notch adds some cooler underwater stuff, expect a total rebuild.
Yeah I'm totally just going crazy waiting. I want to continue work on my maps, but at the same time I want to see what 1.8 will do.
I suppose I can work on natural landscapes for now, hopefully that won't change much, and will be "safe" to work on.
Besides maybe adjusting how much food you have to start with you'll probably need to add some way of getting Melons. I have no bloody clue what Notch plans to do with pumpkins, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
And to reply to Cranica a page or two back, you might have a wheat farm, granted; but wheat takes growing time unless you set up a Skeleton Spawner farm, which getting the bonemeal then takes more time. Same rule with Mushrooms, take ages to grow. Now chickens...you'll have the only grass in the map with several chicken spawners. It'll be making it way too easy to get food.
In the Infernal sky II, the brown wool is imposable to get.
I know, and I am so sorry. I know the map was an "Easy" rated map, but that one wool I just got really mean about it, and I while it IS possible to get the Brown Wool in Infernal Sky II, it's going to be one of the hardest areas in the Super Hostile series.
Suggesting he start on Legendary is just cruel. :laugh.gif:
I started on Infernal Sky 1. Infernal Sky 2 seems to be fairly similar in difficulty. Sunburn Islands is also pretty newbie friendly.
Infernal Sky 2 is easier than Infernal Sky 1; getting to the tree in IS1 is either very long or tricky and finding wool was a total pain.

Better ration those cookies.

WHAT?!
Danger zone.
