I could see you using this to trigger traps.

I already have a light sensor, although my design is radically different in functionality and intended purpose (it is also a one time use deal, but considering what I want to use it for, that's fine with me... the whole area will get blown up by TNT, so reusing the sensor is a moot point... )
Edit: Although that design would be cool to control piston lighting on a normal world... the fact that it uses grass is a big downside for using it in a Super Hostile map. Or, more specifically, grass that has to be open to the sky.
Although... I could so something kind of cool with it. I just had an idea!
Let's see... Sunburn Islands.. 16 dungeons, some THAT bad... Id say... 6-8 hours. Maybe 10 at the most.
Gotcha. My goal is to see how many wool I can get in a short amount of time, so I think if a normal run is 6-10 hours, a 3 hour challenge might be enough time to show a decent amount of the map but still feel pressured not to spend forever building around traps.
I thought about the grass being used for farming, but also had an idea of covering the thing in bedrock, so that the player cannot manage to get to the grass, (like the chicken dispenser) :3
Gotta take into consideration that Notch will still update this game with new mobs, blocks and other cool stuff. But you've got a point. Minecraft only allows for so many themes, traps and dungeons. But a ten, or maybe twenty more maps, is probably possible if Vechs devotes enough time for it.
I still think that, as someone suggested a while ago, Vechs should release a combined Super Hostile map in which each wool is hidden in one of the original maps. In other words you have to search the entire sea of flames 2 just to find the white wool. Still Vechs needs to put out a few more maps before such a thing is possible.
Technically exists.
I could imagine the last map being terrible: You start with half a heart, and when you die you spawn on a pressure plate that blows up the entire map. No mistakes allowed.
It is called dynamic lighting mod
You've forgotten about Endless Deep, Infernal Sky, Kaizo Caverns, Black Desert, Canopy Carnage. I guess those are all next?
If you're talking about "Vech's Collection of Minor Tweaks", that's legit (and you should check it out). I couldn't find a forgery of this post by another author.
Where?
