I'm rather annoyed at how all my attempts at making a CTM map has gone bad.
My first attempt, "The Frozen Tor", a mountain/artic map keeps crashing everytime I try to play in in minecraft but looks fine in MCedit.
My second attempt, a factory sytle map, ended up being rather poor looking and not seeming like it would be fun.
My most recent attempt was a sky kingdoms theme. The spawn point keeps moveing from where I place it in MCedit or using singleplay commands to newly generated chunks (even if I put it in completely open sky like it keeps ending up each time the game moves it.)
But, here's the kicker for both copywrites and patents, you have to be prepared to pay a lawyer (sometimes a LOT of money) to protect your interests. Simply having rights won't protect you. You have to be willing to put up or shut up in a court.
Hiring an attorney to stop some random guy on the internet can be as simple as a take-down notice in most cases, which is only a few hundred bucks. Vechs has proven that he's capable of generating quality content with sufficient value to create revenue opportunities for him. That few hundred bucks wouldn't be a problem.
If a huge company tried to tread on him, say an EA employee wanted to use the term Victory Monument, then it's likely that EA's attorneys would determine up front that the trademark was registered, and that they should choose a different name. Those attorneys are paid up front to avoid larger confrontations, so unless someone in a powerful policy-making position wanted to take on Vechs and overrode their findings on the trademark, incurring bad publicity on an expensive and hard-to-win case, Vechs is in a great position.

The first version of Kaizo Caverns, I ended up deleting it. I tried using Nether portals, and for some reason it would crash the game... even after I removed them.
So I had to delete the map and start over. Mapping can be a serious PITA sometimes... you posting about that just made me remember all the annoying things I've gone through to date. Oh, and the moving spawn point on Canopy Carnage. It kept moving around, and eventually Minecraft stuck the spawn somewhere it seemed to like, so I just said "Well, F it, I'll just make the spawn here and work around it." So I did. :smile.gif:
Just wait until you make a map and it gets popular, and then a patch breaks something in the map, and people start telling you on a daily basis that your things don't work, and your TODO list doubles in size overnight. :dry.gif:

That's not a problem, that's an asset. If vechs was getting screwed by someone, he could easily create a legal defense fund that would at least give his opponent pause.

Yeah the trademark/copyright thing was mostly a precautionary action on my part. I don't really mind that much if someone on the forums calls their CTM monument a "Victory Monument"... it's mildly annoying, but I'm not going to make a fuss over it. I just wanted to protect myself from a major company running off with my ideas... don't want to end up like the guy who made Infiniminer. I feel really sorry for him...

How do you open the locked chest in Humble Start? I put a sign on it, typed in the code "455" and nothing happened. When I tried to do it again, it disappeared! If you are supposed to open it, HOW!?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Super Hostile maps I've completed: Spellbound Caves (Yeah, I pretty much suck.)

It's a joke. Notch added those things on April 1st as a joke. Vechs has now re-joked it to you newer players :smile.gif:
On a separate note. I finally got to intersection 3. I must say, I really like...
Where you placed the VM in legendary. Though, those chickens have to be the most peaceful way you have ever crashed my minecraft.
Vechs, would you ever consider recording the making of a SH map and posting it on youtube or something? Kinda like a Let's Play, but more like a Let's Build. XD

Currently spent 2 hours finding the victory monument on The Black Desert.
Thanks.
i dont blame ya, kinda tough to find. some get lucky and fall, some get lucky and dont. in this case cake is and isnt a lie... its the kinda crap thatll bite your head off trying to work out the cake is and isnt a lie paradox... ouch
Hmmmmm ! I remember spotting the ....er .... underground space and checking the surface where I thought the upper portion of that .... space would be . When the lying confection was exposed , I ran like a hare for what I thought was safe ground . Ha Ha Vechs , Ha Ha .......grumble .
Serendipitously , I discovered the Victory Monument after giving it up for good . ( searched for hours and couldn't find it . Serves me right for not reading the instructions ! )

Well, I have a dual core 2.1 GHz machine, so it's functional but not the latest and greatest.
MCedit operations already take a lot of time -- my record so far was 48 minutes to save an area after I had been working, and that uses 100% CPU power from both cores.
I am positive that if I tried to run recording software while MCedit was also running, my laptop would flip me the bird and then crash.
