There's an exclamation mark? *my life is a lie*
But seriously, generally the people who complain about Inferno Mines taking too long just don't understand that mapmaking is not a quickie thing. I think the reason why people complain about Lethamyr - especially the regulars - is because it was placed under the Super Hostile series, of which people carry a certain expectation of high quality. Lethamyr, being a rushed experiment, was not that.
Domara's Safe Haven took over a year in development apparently, so I guess it's not a valid comparison.
Overall I, and I believe many others, would prefer a long wait for a good map rather than a quickie. That's why there are other CTM maps ... right?
Remind me to never rush something just to entertain you guys. I guess I could have saved 20 hours of my life, while at the same time skipping out on the grief from it.
There is a difference between "Least favorite" and "Most hated." I, for instance, had more fun on IS2, SoF2, Sunburn, Waking Up, and SC than I did on Lethamyr. That doesn't mean I hated Lethamyr. It was still a fun map, I liked several of the dungeons, and the "vanilla minecraft" feel was quite fun. I got to do things I normally don't get to do in a CTM map, like have animal pens, nice farms of whatever crops I want, whole forests to chop down, etc. I even got to go mining to get more diamonds, instead of fighting through hordes of the undead. I enjoyed Lethamyr. It's just that I enjoyed the other maps more.
>area made entirely out of netherrack
>creeper and silverfish spawners on the ground with the odd skeleton spawner for good measure
>blaze spawners in the air/roof
>lava pillars/falls placed all over
most difficult but satisfying dungeon ever?
I don't like Hardcore mode, vanilla minecraft play, or open-world CTM, so this is already going down the wrong track for me. My opinion about that kind of thing would be to do it right - like Legendary, Kaizo, Waking Up, or Safe Haven, and make sure the community gives a good response when it is released.

Part of the community did give a good response when Lethamyr was released (Rosie, for example.) Not every map will appeal to every person. Some of us (such as myself) prefer Linear Branching maps far more than Open-World. That doesn't mean I dislike or hate open-world, it's just that I prefer Linear Branching. Lethamyr was an experiment in a continental style game-play. Vechs could have made it as a test, ran the test himself or with a few others, and then deleted Lethamyr because the test was over.
Instead he gave it to us as another map to play. It may not be our favorite of all maps, but it was certainly not horrible. I'm glad that I was able to play it.
My opinion is that continental styled maps are GREAT. I didn't really like Lethamyr becasue the terrain was nothing special, but I really hope there will be more continental maps with exciting terrain, much hidden loot, and many dungeons - maybe do it like in Safe Haven - not only include monument blocks, but also lore books. But I think the most important thing about continental maps is, that there is a secret behind every corner, and that exploring is fun!
Eidt: is 350 the mark for Gold miner? I just saw it
Yeah, my opinion probably correlates with a lot of the other people here.
When Lethamyr was released, I played through it once, died to a blaze, and promptly said "This sucks". That's because it's really not my style of map. It's a open-world, hardcore, vanilla-Minecraft feel. I like linear-branching, medium difficulty, traditional-CTM-map feel. So of course I didn't like it.
But I've got to really stray from my old ways of bashing Lethamyr here and really agree with Vechs. People seem to complain no matter what he puts out. He is the author of this map series, and he can put out whatever maps he damn well wants to. He could put out a literally vanilla map, with just regular vanilla terrain and no structures, and he's allowed to do that.
Let me impact this into the heads of the complainers: Vechs is mapmaking for US, for OUR entertainment, for no cost whatsoever. Vechs could make us pay 5 dollars to download each Super Hostile map, but no! He uses up a lot of time in his life to make Minecraft maps for our entertainment.
So, if you don't like one of his maps, don't complain. Not all of his maps will appeal to everyone, 100% of the time. Just go and play a CTM by a different author until Vechs' next map comes out, and then play his next map!
My least favorite map would be.... uh..... idk honestly, alot of people say lethamyr and while lethamyr wasn't the best i can say that it was still a super hostile experience in regards to difficulty, most people who don't like it don't seem to like it because of the open world vanilla minecraft experience. Personally i like either open world or intersection, but probably the most controversial thing is the vanilla minecraft and hardcore. While vanilla minecraft can get very boring i wouldn't say lethamyr is completely that, if one were to compare its pretty much just the landmass, that is there that you could call vanilla minecraft, due to this dungeons are very scattered along a huge plane which you have to travel and search for. This gives a feeling of adventure, although you may get easily lost i would say that vechs probably should've had some sort of hacked super large map or multiple side by side maps(and maybe some carrots on sticks and saddles). I realize that its not his best map i can say that its still a great map, just rushed. The hardcore makes players really start strategizing about what to do in this scenario and how to do it and not to just rush the place and hope to live, you have to manage food, resources, and everything well in order to succeed, and while making one tiny mistake that results in 20+ hours of work gone sucks you'll really learn from your mistakes more than anything. So from this conclusion it might actually be better for a super hostile noob to try lethamyr, get a taste of what hardcore is and toughen him up for other maps. (and honestly you can use save files in the same way that rosie did, it might be better, however if your at the risk of losing 20+ hours of work your gonna be a whole lot more careful)
I thought about it again, and realized what my true least favorite Super Hostile map is. I think this time, we can all agree that it was the worst. The issues with this one were:
-No true goal, didn't even live up to the name CTM
-Extreme lack of bonus loot and loot in general
-Too easy, there were not enough monsters at all.
-quite clearly made in MCEdit. Probably only an hour or two in the creation.
Anyone else agree that #0 was the worst? Now be quite about Lethamyr and stop bashing it.
I think a good training Map would be a linear dungeon that gets constantly harder while you go down and teaches you methods to conquer the areas. Maybe a 3 wool monument at the end. Nothing fancy, done in 2-3 hours, and really needed.

Vetches, please don't get upset because we are saying this, all of your maps are great and we mean no hate. We are sorry if it is making you upset, tell us if it is and we will stop. I did like Lethamyr, I just said it was my least favorite, that does not mean that I didn't like it completely. We are sorry and I hope that you aren't discouraged by this
You know, people are always going to complain, no matter what you do. I, for one, loved Lethamyr. It felt like Vanilla+, which I really liked. I mean, I conquered one of the dungeons and then made a giant mobtrap with the spawners. For a long time, it was my "Vanilla" world. I can do everything I can in vanilla, plus the difficulty of dungeons. I admit, the terrain wasn't the most interesting, but if you make another continental style map, with some crazy-ass biomes, I think everyone will love it, not just a few people.
- About hardcore? Backups. Simple like that.
That's how I beat it - I made a backup everytime I was about to attempt at a dungeon. That way, if I died, I'd only lose the dungeon's progress insted of +20 hours gameplay.
No, I refuse under any circumstance to use backups on anything in minecraft. Unless my SP got corrupted or something. To me it feels like cheating. Backups make any mistakes you make or deaths not matter since you can just load a back up and your back with all your stuff once again. It ruins the experience for me.

I enjoy Lethamyr its just I don't enjoy it as much as your other maps. I wasn't complaining I was just responding to the question of which map you enjoyed the least. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. Im similar to isaac, I like maps that are Linear-Branching and ROMhard. Also I have a very aggressive slashing and bashing style so as you can imagine Lethamyr wasn't my cup of tea. Inferno Mine is a dream come true to me from what I have heard its everything I have listed in what I love most in a map. I would wait at my computer screen until the dawn of time to play that lovely beautiful map.
On other note I love your LP of Waking Up its interesting since your style is the complete opposite of mine. You keep it interesting and well white text nuff said.
Also I am going to hunt down Etho and kill him, he recently killed 2 bats in his LP
When I saw that something in me broke and I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
I see a lot of comments about Lethamyr, so I'll pitch in my 2 cents as well.
Honestly, Lethamyr is one of the few Super Hostile maps I actually fully completed (the easy one, mind you - hardcore mode is too nerve wracking for me to enjoy playing it at all), and it kinda... introduced me to the series fully. I've been watching this topic for quite a long time and making attempts at maps occasionally, but I haven't beaten any of the other maps yet (besides the beta of Waking Up).
To me, Lethamyr represents a better vanilla Minecraft. I need a goal, something to strive for - which Lethamyr gave me. I actually enjoyed the terrain, and searching for all of the dungeons - not to mention mapping out the entire island, which took forever. Was it a little bland at times? In comparison to some of the epic things we see in maps that take 3-4 times longer, or in linear-branching style maps, maybe. But it was still enjoyable for me.
And this is directly at Vechs (although I don't know how much of his post was trolling): people are always going to complain. That will never, ever change regardless of what you do. Should that change the way you do things? Hell no.
A few negative comments doesn't mean everyone hated a map. It just means those few more vocal people didn't like it as much as the other epic maps - and I'd be willing to bet that there's a lot more people who play them, who do enjoy the hell out of them, but stay quieter.

That map is ridiculously big and awesome! Tried it once with a friend, but (As he does with every map that he dies in) he changed gamemode and went to creative.
I would rather have quality over quantity; Vechs take as long as you want for Inferno Mines
