WORLD OUT OF TIME
A MINECRAFT Custom Adventure Map
NOTICE: This map was created way back in March of 2011. Way before I knew how to make decent maps. Consider this more of a survival map with a few interesting builds and a storyline. Break blocks. Craft. The last half of the map has a big 'empty' feeling, which was originally on purpose but may annoy some players and feel unfinished. SOME DAY I'll come back and revise this map.
UPDATE: 3/24/2011 - Challenge Mode
For those of you who found it too quick, try this!
When you get to Note 05 - Grave and Cottage, and Note 07 - Empire City, stop and spend a full 'night' before moving on to the next checkpoint.
We broke the world. That's what you were taught in school, only that's never felt quite right. Father thinks that maybe we pushed the world too far, and when it pushed back, it broke -us-. You've seen the pictures... before they burned the books for heat. Cities. Planes. Cars. Sky. War. Things that only existed in mother's bedtime stories. The world pushed back.
Some folks built "vaults" in the earth and locked themselves away. Purified air. Recycled water. Hydroponics. They said we could survive down here indefinitely. Or at least until the Zombies died off. Only... they didn't die off, they just turned into skeletons. Or worse. You're not even sure what else is out there. We lost contact with the other vaults when you were eight.
And then the lights went out.
Mayor says that the vault was built with a single, unsuspected point of failure. The timing device that regulated day and night cycles wore down. It's been jurry-rigged, but it won't hold. After much discussion, the elders have agreed - someone must be sent out of the vault.
First off, I love the detail you put in. The missing railway tracks, trees growing over them, houses with only the foundation left. Streets looked like real streets. That being said, hole crap is Imperial City Huge. You can EASILY get lost in there. I did several times, and I have a minimap mod -.- 4/5
Secondly, the story was decent. It was interesting, but straight forward. You said you wanted to make some akin to the 'Choose your way' adventures. I could only choose one way. 2.5/5
Thirdly, the game play wasn't hard I literally just walked a bunch, and then walked back the same way. 1/5
Wonderful map! Excellent work on the city as well. Not having to fight my way past hordes of miscellaneous monster spawners is really nice for a change in adventure maps, and the story is both familiar in genre but unique in detail. PERFECT!

"Look at me still talking when there's science to do. When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you."
Thanks for the feedback. I should have been a little more clear on the 'story'. It's pretty straight forward if you just walk. But I was imagining that folks would stop and explore, build small shelters for overnight, etc.. along the main path.
Was on the Bridge/Road 10 clicks of Empire City, found a boat there spent about 5 minutes playing with it, looked up.. and i had myself a certain type of gasm :O'' has been great so far, cant wait to continue this custom map!
This has to be one of the most impressive maps I've ever seen! Although it wasn't perfect (large chunks of ruin floating in mid air, and the track was way too long IMO), I am impressed by how much effort you've put into it. It's great as an adventure map, too, and I enjoyed it much.
By the way, I found the vault entrance at the northeast corner of the city. Was there another entrance at the northwest corner that I missed?

Air-dropped bombs come in 3 flavours, distinguished by their intelligence: smart, dumb and retarded.
This map won't be for everyone.
It's about a long lonely road. (Isn't it amazing how the road back home seem so much shorter!)
When I created it, I envisioned folks would only get a little ways before dark came, and they'd be buildind shelters, then going a little further. But obviously it's not big enough - you can get all the way to the main city before dark if you run.
But hey - if you're an RPer at heart... challenge yourself to build a 'base' in the middle of the city and see how long you survive while exploring the ruins.
Also - I need to point out I didn't create that city. I got the schematic from the guy who made MCEdit. I used that tool to paste it into my world. Then everything else was done by hand.
