New video up about my progress on MCPyramid 2. I think it is working pretty well.
Description:
In the process of making MCPyramid 2, I decided to add some sand dune for more interesting landscape, and mini-tombs that should promote exploration of those sand dunes.
Inside the mini-tombs, there will be 1 trap and 1 chest of treasure. Each tomb will have a difficulty (Easy, medium, hard). The harder the difficulty, the better the reward! Some tomb's traps will be obstacles (like the one in the video) or will have actual traps like in MCPyramid 1. Get past these challenges and you will get rewarded, or fail and lose everything you hold.

Hey look buddy, I'm a builder. That means I build custom maps. Not maps like "Escapecraft 3", because that would fall within the purview of your idea of most puzzle maps. I build adventure maps. For instance, how am I going to allow some big old forum user to enjoy adventure to the fullest? The answer? Use a pyramid. And if that don't work, use more pyramid. Like this big, old, dusty pyramid designed by me. Built by me. And you'd best hope... being played by you.
I used my water bucket on some lava and got lots of nice cobble.
But then I died loosing my water/bucket and my iron pick.
Spent the rest of the map hoping to come across some iron to make a new pick.
so many blocks of gold i had to leave behind until I found the end.
three questions:
1) how on earth were we supposed to get past the skell observation deck near the end?
2) at the end of the hallway there. with the huge drop. i dug out the sand behind the first chest on the left. Directly behind the skell spawners in the first question. I could see that there were two rooms behind this wall and the next wall. But I never could find an entrance to those rooms. Was there one?
3) Big circle (well square) that seemed to go all the way around the pyramid. then fall back into itself. was there a reason? LOL I used a lot of torches to light that up and was surprised to end right back up where i started with nothing to show for it. lol
Suggestion:
I didnt know about the deep sand pit near spawn. everywhere I dug was only two deep. A little sign there saying "Seems the Sand here is very deep" or something would help.
A piece of Iron in chest here and there would help.
And maybe a water pool at the bottom of one of the drops.
I was also hoping that using the ladders on the diamond block tower would lead out some how.
Thank you and Paul (minecraft dad)
I wish Minecraft could be more like this in general.

1) Run really fast to the chest at the end of the bridge. They can't hit you. OR turn all the lava into obsidian and if they do hit you, you are fine.
2)There is no entrance. They are just behind the scenes rooms to make traps work how they do or to fill in space between rooms.

Thanks for a great map, War904. By the time I'd reached the end of this my nerves were shot and I was terrified of sand. Well done. :tongue.gif: There are some very nice (and sneaky) traps in here - definitely recommended.
Do you mind if I include your journal in the main post? Your writing is quality!
Also, I lol'd at:
but by the time I reached the end I was a nervous wreck and couldn’t look at a piece of sand without going for a cry in a corner.

A really nice map you got there! I've been playing for a while, and I love it. I do know quite a lot of traps, yet I still keep dying... Like the collapsing floor trap. I see something omnious, thinking 'I'm not falling to this again, lemme remove 1 block from the ground and test if it's a trap". Smart, wouldn't you think? Well, seems like the trap was bigger then I thought, so I fall anyway....
Love it so far. My only complaint is that you could've made the desert look more intresting, instead of just one big flat thing. Some dunes, or just a little bit of diffrence in height here and there.
It's one of the better adventure maps I've played, with it's own kind of style.

Yea, I realize that, and that is why there are dunes in MCPyramid 2 (See video I added if you want a preview).

SOrry if this sounds kinda nooby, but my minecraft is a stand-alone executable and i dunno where to add the map to my "saves" folder since i have none. please help, i would really like to play this map :biggrin.gif:
I'm not sure honestly. If you are using a stand-alone executable, then I would say to go ask somebody else who uses it or to ask the person you got it from how to do it.

Alright, first find your Roaming folder (If you're running Windows 7,use the start menu search bar for %Appdata%). Open .minecraft, and then saves. Put the world into that folder, and away you go.
You have my thanks, but now i cant get the texpack running, lol
any1 a quick tut?
Have you ever used a texture pack before? If not, read this.
Open minecraft and go under the texture pack tab. Click the open texture pack folder button (or something along those lines) and drag the .zip in to there. Now when you go back to texture packs, you should see it in there. Just click on it and it should be done.

Any news on your latest progress on MCPyramid 2? I'd rather not continue right now, as all progress will be lost with the next version. Can't wait to play v.2

Well, besides what my video shows, not much. Waiting until 1.8 to make any major changes so that when it finally comes along, it won't screw much up and I have more to work with.

So,do you have any plans after MCPyramid 2 is released? Other maps, maybe? Or is the Pyramid your thing?
It's not really my "thing", I'm just continuing this map because many people wanted it and I have a few good ideas that I want to use. If I ever get an idea for a map that works, I might do it.
What I like to stick with, however, is the no-rules rule (to some extent). I will never make a map that restricts you from breaking block and doing most other things.

i started in the wrong place in the map (im on my server...not sure if there is a diffrent way) any help?
I'm not sure, because when playing SMP, you always start at the spawn (the correct spot on this map). Here is a few things to check:
-Check that you put the "Put this in saves" folder in there. That contains the level
-Check that SMP is working correctly
-Check the SMP settings file to make sure you set the level to the correct one
-Check to make sure the level downloaded is working (corrupted when downloading for some reason, or some other possible issues)
If all those things are correct and you still have the problem, kill yourself in the game and you should respawn at the spawn point near the pyramid. If you don't, I'm not sure what to do then.

I was so happy to find the tomb then come out and look over to the right see my shealter FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU lol anyways nice map its perfect cant wait for part 2 kepp going with these maps
So, I've got a problem: I've watched the first part of the Paul's video about that Pyramid, and I'd like to play. But, it doesn't work very well: I can't dig, build or destroy anything around the chest and the dirt. So, that means no woods, no seedle, no house... nothing! Can I have some help? (I'm French, sorry for mistakes) =)
There either must be something wrong with minecraft or you are playing on a server where you are not an op.
