Did you make a video on youtube about this map? If you have, I have seen it. It's EPIC!
Erm, no, you're probably thinking of Broville by oldshoes.
I can't say that his map wasn't an influence on this one, certainly it was, but I started making a city in the free minecraft within the first few hours of knowing what this was lol. So I like to think I didn't TOTALLY steal the idea.
I tried making a video last night, my poor videocard just can't handle it.. I need to get a new one. I'm tired of my view distance being on short.
Also, I'm afraid I don't know what MCEdit is, but I can look into it.
the only thing I used out of the ordinary beta survival game (on peaceful of course.. can't have creepers blowing up my work or zombies jumping me while I frame up a new foundation..) was the loleditor save game editor to give me materials. It makes things go faster. That way I don't have to level a forest or hollow out the earth or dry up the sand beaches to get the materials I need to do this lol.
The city has a partial subway system with I think 3 stations right now, 3 tunnels 2 bridges, some other misc goodies.. I don't necessarily have a manifest destiny entire map a city type vision for this, but a large city that spans a lot of space would be nice. Though, I worry that the more I do the harder it will be fore people with older videocards to play.
My laptop that I use sometimes has to be windowed and the view distance set to "tiny" to play it smoothly with nothing else open. It's about 3 years old.. so it seems the map is getting sort of.. complicated I guess?
Hmmm... Seems nice, it reminds me of a victorian city for some reason. Anyway, I'd want the map. Most good filesharing websites provide free accounts with limited storage space, so it's generally easy to set up as long as you have a stable internet connection for uploading the map.
There is one problem, I'd say: there's no distinct style of architecture. It's fine for now, but a distinct style makes it look original, and it makes it recognisable.
Also, mcedit is only really good for large Walls, importing from other maps, or changing sections from one material to another. It's a nice tool to have, but it's by no means necessary. In fact, it can be a pain to run on fast computers, for reasons I won't go into, so it might be more trouble than it's worth.

Thanks for the info, no I agree with you there really isn't a set style. this is partly because as I built I became better at what I did.
newer construction you start to see more colorful and patterned construction and my newest "town" new haven does have a construction theme.. so you will see that elsewhere, just not in the main city.
Like a real city, I tried to add variation as if each building were built by a different person/set of persons. I have building standards such as "story" height, foundation materials, street width and materials etc.But these rules were built over time, initially we started the map without any.
I'll try to make this map available soon. I'll also see if I can't make a video for the main post.
v1 may be a disappointment. there's a LOT left unfinished. But as my attentions change I drift away from a project and come back to it later.
internet geek: HOKAY! i want u to ahplowde dis mape on teh intarnets for usaj by teh playurz mmmkay?
normal translation: Okay! i want you to upload this map on the internet for usage by the players okay?
By the way, I welcome feedback. I put it in the readme but I think it's worth mentioning here.
We just got hit by some snow down here in Atlanta so.. I'm working form home and minecrafting because work is quite slow without being able to hands-on.
Thank you, Minecraft. I lost the topic (because I didn't bookmark it, and I misspelled it when searching for it), and only just saw the 'view your posts' thing. Anyway, I'm just downloading now.
I like it. It needs a bit more interior decoration and the like, but that can easily be sorted out in the next version. The only problem I can say is similar to my last one- It doesn't have any truly original buildings, nothing that makes it stand out from the crowd.
There is a partial subway yes. Off the top of my head it has 3 or 4 stations and takes you under the river in the version published.
in the current version I'm working on now... well.. it hasn't been touched, but there are a lot more buildings and many of them are more unique than the others that were previously on there. I'm trying to get a bit more creative with skyscraper design.
There's also the ship which is done in the version released, as well as the start of a town called New Haven with a dock, and the Westcorp private mine which.. well isn't anything special I don't suppose lol.
in the current revision there's also an airplane.. and I thought about making an airport, but I haven't yet. There's also a hydro-electric plant that's.. not much to look at, and some other goodies.
Interiors I'm trying to fill in somewhat. There's a few here and there that are getting filled in slowly as I find a purpose. I'm also putting goodies here and there in chests. Some of them are obvious, others not so much.. and some I doubt you'll ever find lol. I've already forgotten where they are in some cases.
I was thinking today.. in survival mode this could be a bit like resident evil.. you're standing in your apartment in your high rise at night, looking down on zombies giant spiders and other walking dead roam the streets beneath you.. seems like it could be pretty interesting. I haven't tried it personally.. can't have a blowing a hole in one of my buildings.
I'm glad you like it so far! I appreciate the feedback.
Here's a V2 preview from my tumblr if you haven't been. We'll see if it lets me do this..
That's the "varner house." It doesn't REALLY have any significance, but I decided to make it a historic/old house since it's in the middle of a massive skyscraper district.
There's an aquarium and library that's been added in the new section, a hospital, what's going to be a MASSIVE luxury hotel (perhaps too massive I'm afraid..) a large tall building with luxury apartments.. and other goodies.
Oh, I've started using the mixcraft HD texture pack as well for my game to design in. The default was just getting too.. bleh.. for me. It didn't feel fine enough. The new glass with the frames makes a big difference. I recommend it. It makes my cobblestone buildings look dumb, but it makes everything else look much nicer imo.
wait, is that ship in the current release? i havent seen it....
is there anything else in the current map that you wouldnt find at first, other then the small castle, the developed caves under the city, and the unlit nether portal at the bottom of the map?

For a second there i thought you bored me to death.
The map is quite nice so far. There are plenty of unique places to keep it interesting. Add some smart NPCs and quests, and you've got the best mod Minecraft has ever seen. Only thing I can see that would deter anyone from downloading is the name. Not the catchiest, I have to admit. Otherwise, it's pretty awesome. Keep it up!

Yes, the ship, an unfinished town called "new haven" a submarine (that has been improved somewhat in v1.5 that I'm working with) and the "westCorp private mine" are all in v1.
V2 will include a plane, more of a finished new haven, a lot more to the main city including an aquarium (no life in it yet lol) a library, hospital, and POSSIBLY another town I was gonna call "forvis beach."
yea, the name is crappy, I admit my creativity with names is very poor.
I'm also working on a mall. I plan to keep the light level inside low enough to hopefully have a few and inside :smile.gif:
The mall has a ways to go though, because unlike many of the buildings that were in v1, I want it finished in completely.
Oh, there's also a dam in the current working version, and if I can ever swim down there.. something worth finding in the deep side :smile.gif:.. we'll see about that one.
I've added a lot more goodies in the upcoming version to keep people interested.. materials n what not.

It's got a ways to go though, not sure if it'll all be fully done.
