Oh and one suggestion: if you make a secret ending in #3, make it so that you don't read the signs as if you're following the normal ending. It'd be kind of hard to fix that in EC2 because just about every sign says that I killed 1089, but if you can in EC3 make it not so obvious that you aren't following the normal path. You know what I'm saying?
Example:
So if EC3 had the same choice of saving/killing 1089, instead of: "wait I saved 1089 but the sign says I killed him... maybe this is the secret ending" you would have "I saved 1089 and the sign says I saved him... *has no idea that this is the secret ending until you get back to the start room and realize something's up*".

Yeah, that was regrettable. It came down to a question of whether to remove mentions of 1089 (which would have lessened the impact of the ending, since you likely would have forgotten about it) in order to make the signs fit both endings. Ultimately I assumed that virtually everyone would kill 1089 on the first runthrough, and only realize the possibility of saving him on subsequent plays, and would likely be forgiving of the inconsistency.
While the ending of EC3 isn't yet set in stone (we have loads of ideas, of varying levels of complexity), I don't think we'll have that particular problem again.
For any who are still interested - finished 2 more rooms for EC3 today... we're getting near the end. I think you'll find this installment MUCH more sophisticated, both in terms of puzzle difficulty and in aesthetics. Some of these rooms push the boundaries of what MC can handle in terms of block-block and block-item interactions (and in more than one case, we break those boundaries altogether).
In terms of shear size, EC3 is now bigger than both of the previous installments put together. By the time it's complete, it will probably have more rooms than both combined as well.

Sounds nice. Even I helped a bit, it's still shrouded in mystery. I wonder what's coming.......

how do you save 1089 without breaking the glass
(since your not allowed to)
or is saving a innocent test subject worth breaking the rules?
There is a hidden furnace directly below the lever with the supplies you need.
spoiler alert! lol
I was thinking about something, since you have those signs afterwards in the future if you do something like that you could place those signs on sand and alternate signs on stone behind it, so if you did pull the initial lever it would drop all the sand and the signs talking about why did you kill it would be behind the sand, but if you didn't kill it the original signs would still be there on the sand. Just a thought.
Thanks for the game, I have mentioned you in my lets play a few times and I hope you keep doing them, you are a great asset to the community.
Nearly done? YEEESSSS! By the way, MrScaryMuffin mentioned Railtracks. Does that mean we'll have minecart sections? if so.... YEEESSSS! This is going to be so awesome, I can't wait!
Yea, I pretty much signed on just to do minecart stuff and then I ended up bouncing around a whole bunch of ideas with merlinus and so far I've contributed a whole slew of rooms.
Just finished one that seemed simple in concept but is actually pretty evil in practice. No deaths, as promised, but if you find yourself cursing at some unknown deity while playing through some levels...that deity probably is me. :tongue.gif:
How did you make the "to be continued..." trap in the secret ending?
He simply used MCedit to place the floating sand blocks on the house floor, then by using redstone connected to the switch which led right next to the sand blocks, he forced the blocks to 'update', which then led to the sand falling like it should normally.

Sniper gets the prize =)
You can create a similar effect (without hax) by making an inverted pyramid of sand supported by torches and then removing one of the torches manually, or (for those who are MC pros) with a redstone-water "switch"
I changed the ending in EC2 to the sandfall to give you a taste of EC3. One of my greatest disappointments with the first two games is that they felt "static" - they were unmoving, unchanging rooms that the player left few marks in upon solving (unless you got something wrong and blew up half the level, of course). EC3 is MUCH more dynamic - solving a puzzle unlocks not only a door but creates physical changes to several of the rooms, giving you access to new areas in dramatic fashion.

There are at least 2 puzzles that involve minecart tracks. They weren't included in the previous two games because... well, I suck at making them. As he alluded previously, I called in ScaryMuffin as a consultant to build a couple minetracks based on some ideas I had. He shot back two puzzles that were vastly superior to what I had asked for - complete redesigns of my ideas and much more complex. Since then he's made about a third (maybe a half, I'd have to count) of the designs for EC3.
Having a partner is proving to be much more fun than doing this solo - just having someone to play through each puzzle who doesn't already know how to solve it is a huge plus. And his new ideas for puzzles have proved essential - frankly, I had used up most of my cleverness on EC1 and 2.
Glad to hear so many of you are looking forward to EC3 - I have every confidence that you won't be disappointed.

Having just played through the puzzle to which he is referring, I can attest to its dark and foreboding nature. He has concocted a blasphemous thing that whispers in my dreams and plants foul urges in my mind.
Also, it was pretty hard. Might have to be toned down JUST a touch... we want keyboard-smashing levels of difficulty, but not monitor-lobbing frustration. That said, it is awesome =)
Man, this was so entertaining that it constituted me creating a profile and posting. This was probably the most creative and cool thing that I've seen for Minecraft. Loved the first one, and loved this one twice as much. The secret ending and (portal) location(s) were really clever, and the witty comments on the signs along the way made the experience even more entertaining. I'de like to thank you and wish you luck on EC3, which I know will be amazing since you have your creativity as well as another talented individual's as well.

:biggrin.gif: From the TINY snig-bits I've seen, it will be MUCH more epic that they are letting on. I only got SNIG-BITS.
