So have you been having trouble setting up a minecraft 1.8 server? most lickly because if you where that would be why your reading this forum.:P
Anyways don't worry the title i got your back,
So first off yes it is time to upgrade, minecraft version 1.8 released 5 mouths ago and almost all servers are starting to make the move.[Some may not due to not all their needed plugins updating]. But i'm here to help you get started into the version of 1.8 REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE YOU START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STEP-1:
So to start you have to download spigot for minecraft version 1.8. All versions of 1.8 work with this server type including the current 1.8.1
Next, go to your hosts FTP file access and clear out everything their, remember you should have made a backup so just incase you don't like 1.8 you can move everything back!
*you ask me* -But after taking out my world that players worked hard in will be removed right?
Yes,they will you can keep the worlds if you want but i HIGHLY recommend you fresh start...1.8 is full of new stones that generate in the world, stones that wont be generated if you are running a 1.7.10 world!, Its your choice!
STEP-3:
remove all files then upload the spigot jar file into your ftp file access.
Start the server then wait, when starting out fresh the first start will take longer due to world creation! Then when the server has started up to the point that you can join, exit and stop the server.
STEP-4:Adding Plugins!:
When adding a plugin download it to your computer and then upload it by:
going to your servers FTP file access, clicking plugins and uploading it their.
remember the only file types for ANY plugin is .jar or a zip file!
go to your server.prop file and under MOTD type what you would like it to be,
Want Color codes for a server MOTD? here ya go:
