Honestly I think you need to follow some java tutorials before you can really start modding, it doesn't sound like you really have a grasp of what classes are yet and that is pretty fundamental to making anything in java.
Yeah, I suppose this is a bit outside my ballpark for now. I'll come back to this project later then and study up on some more Java. Thanks for being helpful UberAffe.
Barely. Due to X's inactivity, this thread was slowly dying. I don't blame him though, it's not his fault. We're the ones keeping the thread up. I'm developing his mod Chemical Energistics, and I've sort of helped with his other mod Lost Eclipse. Yet development on CE is slow, because I feel like I need X's approval to do some things, and I don't know his whole idea plan. Plus, if I had contact with the texture artists, the mod would be even more active.
P.S. I posted it in a board where a moderator actually had to approve of the thread, and it did indeed get approved.
EDIT: I just realized I've been involved in this thread for half of the pages...

When I try to build my mod into a jar using "gradlew build" it says it is unable to copy the mc-mod.info file from the 'src' resources folder to the 'build' resources folder. Why is this and how can I fix it?
You might not have an mcmod.info file there. I don't think that file gets generated. You would just need to make an empty file called mcmod with a file type of .info

"If It Is To Be It Is Up To Me" simple quote and I don't know where it comes from but I enjoy it.

The file should get generated. To fix that issue, open up the existing file, copy its contents, delete the file, and create a new file called mcmod.info with the copied contents in that.

Okay, so I got it to build into a jar but now when I put it in my mods folder and run it with forge in the console it says, "FML has found a non-mod file theop-1.8-1.0.0A.jar in your mods directory. It will now be injected into your classpath. This could severe stability issues, it should be removed if possible." And it doesn't load the mod.

OK new problem. I've been trying to make items create their own entity (similar to a snowball) when right clicked. I've been following this tutorial (http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Tutorials/Basic_Shooter_Item_-_Blaster_Rifle), and the entities aren't doing their proper code. Basically, they don't act as the custom entity I've coded and instead are invisible and only do some damage (about 6 or 3 hearts). Not sure what's going on here, I will check in on this around 10 AM EST.
I'm thinking that the spells are all shooting one entity (EntitySeekingMissile) instead of their own respective projectiles. Not sure why or how though.

I recommend looking into this for a bit first.

Curse PremiumDoes your main class have an @Mod annotation?
Trying to make a new set of tools, but I keep getting an error with "EnumHelper.addToolMaterial"

Curse PremiumYou should have ToolMaterial corruptIron = ToolMaterial.getbyID("corruptIron");
and in your registration area you put EnumHelper.addToolMaterial(...);
You should not be using new EnumHelper.
Edit: EnumHelper.addToolMaterial() is a static void method

Curse PremiumIgnore everything except the edit and sentence before, what he means is you cannot use "new".

Curse PremiumI think it should be pretty clear to you that not every tutorial is compatible... Even the ones on the same site.
I'm pretty sure this is why it doesn't work.
It should work because it is very much the same code as the snowball. That's why I'm confused. Read through the tutorial before you judge it.

Curse PremiumLOL
So you're basically complaining about a tutorial on a whole other site not working here?
You DO know these tutorials are very old, and are barely tolerated in discussion at the originate forums.
I recommend checking this out for spells: https://github.com/TheXFactor117/Lost-Eclipse/
No, I'm asking you if you even bothered to read it before you said "It probably doesn't even work".
And I will look at that, thank you.

Curse PremiumWhy when I try to add my own shovel, and go to extend the ItemShovel class to actually add the new shovel, the ItemShovel class seems to not exist?
