Hey there. Thanks for an awesome tutorial, but i have one problem. I created my first item, no errors and everything loads up fine, however, I can't find the item in creative. What could be wrong? Might be because of (pictures).
In your item class are you extending item. I need to see the entire class file in order to figure out what is wrong.
Yeah, you are going to need to make your class extend the Item class. To do that, just add "extends Item", to your public class VincTweaksItem line.
Extending Item basically allows our item to inherit Minecraft's item code, which contains creative tabs, and such. So we need to inherit those methods so we can use them.
You are going to need to install 'git'. Now, I'm not sure how that works for Windows, however, this article should walk you through it. If you have an issues with anything, let me know, and I may be able to help :).
Alternatively, you don't need to use GitHub/Git, however, I recommend you do.
Thanks a lot! I didn't realize there was something I should download other than just setting up the website! I'm sure I'll have some more questions for you in the near future so thanks for the help.
I'm having trouble with tutorial #5, the texture isn't showing up on the item. I set up the folders and put in the png file, I think it may be an issue of naming. What should I do?

Post your code to pastebin (all relevant classes), and tell me your texture path and I will figure out your issues
hey there, i'm a long time mod player first time mod maker and i was wondering if a tutorial for enities such as mobs and such will be posted in the foreseeable future. I have two ideas for mods and one of them is one that focuses on adding many mythical creatures and interactions with them. your tutorials look very informative and i can't wait to put the knowledge to use.

Yes, I do plan on doing custom living entities. They are, however, a difficult concept to talk about and work on, so it may not before a while, but I do plan on doing them.
The only thing eclipse suggests is to make new class... please let me know if i am missing any imports or if I have done anything stupid...also returns the same error here and if I press "." after "net.minecraft.client.renderer.texture" I see no "IIconRegester" option
I don't think this has been mentioned previously as a question but forgive me if it has been. I finished the setup tutorial perfectly and have moved onto the second. Everything has been going perfectly there so far, but the only thing I am seeing that isn't consistent with your instructions are the very last thing of that tutorial. Going to the main class and hovering over the "Reference" in the @Mod annotation. I've hovered over it, right clicked it, done pretty much everything I could think of to select it and haven't found an import button anywhere. If its not there does it need to be done? Or is this something that may have been done by itself depending on the version of software.

Thanks for the help!
It shouldn't go ahead and automatically import simply because there is another Java class file that has the name 'Reference', so when you go to import it, you will need to choose the right one.
This tutorial is, just as i said yesterday, very good. But one more problem. I'm ultimately a retard and can't understand why this wont work.
You'll get better over time with these simple errors.
Two things, your class should be called VincTweaksTab, instead of ModNameTab, and that should take care of those errors. Second, you can remove the ModStructureItems line out, along with the brackets they are in - that is only needed if you want another tab (or 5 for that matter).

Nah, not there. Look at one of my item classes. You'll need to import Item as well.
Later on there is a tutorial for custom creative tabs, so you could probably just do that instead.
Glad you got it all sorted out

I reread the comments so nv.
What do you mean?

Anyways i am having difficulties with tutorial 5 (Block/item textures)... I have imported everything (as eclipse recommends)
"IIconRegister" and "itemIcon" "cannot be resolved to a type"!

Have you created your Reference class though?

Ah, you need to make that class extend CreativeTabs.
Also, your if statement in the getTabIconItem method needs to have brackets (I was only talking about the 2 other ones). Something like this:
if (this.name == "tabAscension")
{
return ModItems.omega;
}
and here:
